Introducing the Official LG LCD, Plasma and HD TV Owners Forum

Last year we at LG started an official sponsored forum for people interested in LG television and flat panel products - both LCD and Plasma. You can talk about any aspect of LG flat panel TVs, be they LCD or Plasma screen, and whether you're an LG TV owner or thinking about becoming one, on-topic contributions from any member of the community are always welcome. We’re here for the long-term and willing to discuss topics with the community, so please feel free to join in with your views and suggestions.

As part of our ongoing commitment to this community we offer information on all our new HD, LCD and Plasma products and occasionally even exclusive opportunities to attend LG events or find out about them first.

If you are interested in attending future events but don’t live near London, please respond to this poll so we can keep you updated on regional events.

We'd also like to mention we have a blog and a YouTube channel, which have more information about LG products and, if you like, you can follow us on Twitter or join our group on Facebook as well.

So without further ado, why not stop by and say hello?

Thinking about buying a LG 42PQ6000. Does this TV display full HD?

Even though this isn't specifically a thread for this kind of stuff...

I don't own one but it is very good, there is a review of it here - LG 50PS7000 Plasma HDTV Review at AVForums.com It has very good colour/greyscale accuracy and motion is very good. The black levels are also good, but don't match the competition from Panasonic in the NeoPDP plasmas, the difference isn't really noticeable on anything but dark scenes though. SD scaling is also pretty good, better than the Panasonics in my opinion. It does wash out quite easily in bright lighting, but it does this due to a lack of a strong black filter, so you get very good shadow detail, it is more prone to image retention than the Panasonics as well, you shouldn't run into major issues unless you abuse it though. Overall it's an absolute steal in my opinion, highly recommended from me

No it's not, just 720p, you need to go to the PS series for 1080p, but the PQ6000 will accept a 1080p signal and process that, but it will be displayed in 720p at the end of the chain of processing. Don't get too hung up on resolution though

If the set is brand new then I would recommend staying away from gaming (first 100 hours or so) especially long sessions, but there's no reason why you can't use this TV for gaming. You will get image retention but as long as you make sure that you let it fade before your next session on that game then you wont have any issues. Also don't spend too long gaming (no more than 3-4 hours) and if you do have a long session then takes breaks every hour or two, just for 10 minutes, and have the TV on a different source such as freeview or use the ISM methods built in to the TV under the options menu (white wash/colour wash etc...).

If you get image retention then just put another source on the TV, so the built in freeview or a sky/virgin box etc...as long as that static image which has caused the retention isn't there anymore.

Re: Introducing the Official LG LCD, Plasma and HD TV Owners Forum

The TV is great, but you might be able to pick up the PQ6000 for the same or even less so look that up too.

As for gaming it depends on the balance of your viewing. With LCD you wont get the image retention but the motion handling and contrast levels are better on plasmas, the former being very impotant, the latter being 'nice' to have. If you use the TV for watching regular TV and/or movies as well as gaming then I'd go for a plasma, provided the gaming sessions aren't too long. But you can still spend a while gaming on them, I have a PG6000, from LGs 2008 plasma line up, and I use that largely for gaming (about 50/50 with regular TV and some movies), I've spend 3 hours gaming on that, I get image retention but it fades, the PQ series is improved too

So does anyone know why there are stock shortages of lg 50ps3000 plasmas, is it just this model or is it all Lg plasmas?
