re: Lg 32pg6000 - Part 1

hope the box isn't too large. I need to transport it upright I presume, in a Citroen Picasso!
What happens if you transport it flat - does this affect the picture?

There's a slight risk that you will break it, if it works when you get it out then it'll work. I got mine delivered but the box isn't that big, you might need to put a seat down (if you can). I transported my Panasonic 37PX80 flat though, that was fine, it was flat for at least 2-3 hours. Just be very careful when driving over speed bumps and don't drive over and bumpy roads! If you can keep it upright then do

Monarch08 you must be one of the most prolific posters on here - you seem to pop up a lot!
Thanks for your input!

Another query- is channel changing at all sluggish on freeview?
Would also love to see screenshots of the EPG if anyone can oblige

I know, this website has taken over my dull IT lessons in college! Channel changing is alright, I've seen better but I've seen a lot worse, the inbuilt tuner is good though, the guide works well too, I use that instead of channel hopping

Changing channels and using the EPG is a little sluggish compared to alot of modern sets, but not bad compared to many others I've used. Here's a pic. (Don't mind all the wavy lines, it's just my camera):

re: Lg 32pg6000 - Part 1

I've just realized something, I have "clear voice mode" turned on. I turned it off, and found that voices were a bit muffled, it actually works?! I remember reading about it before buying but...it works?! Does it make the picture worse or pose any other problems? I can't see any difference but was wondering what everyones thoughts on this was

re: Lg 32pg6000 - Part 1

After some good advice on here (thanks Monarch08), I bought the 32PG6000 and it arrived today. Here are a few thoughts:

First thing I noticed - it's impossible to handle the TV without getting fingerprints all around the edge! Fortunately they provide a cloth to help clean it. Once in position and cleaned up, it looks very nice indeed. By the way, I didn't seem to have any removable film on the screen. I read about others accidentally removing stuff you weren't meant to so I was prepared to just take one layer off, but didn't see any.

Second thing - I fitted a wall bracket and noticed that the power lead is very close (i.e. touching) the part of the bracket that fits on the back of the TV. It is *just* okay, but gave me a slight cause for concern at first. I guess it depends on what bracket you use as well.

IR - I honestly have not noticed any problems with IR, and I've had it on for a few hours. I have now set the ISM setting to Orbiter, just in case. Does anyone know if the screen moving every 2 mins is a noticable thing? I would imagine it would be annoying but so far I haven't noticed. How are you supposed to use whitewash or invert? Do you just apply the whitewash when you have an IR problem, whereas the orbiter is a prevention thing?

Gaming/Monitor use - Wii looks excellent via component as does my laptop via VGA. I had to adjust the screen position slightly for the laptop but this was easily done in the TV's menu. For sound, I connected a 3.5mm lead from the headphone socket of the laptop to the audio-in of the TV. This was fine except the volume was quite low and I had to turn it up a lot. That might just be my laptop or the movie I was playing though. I have still to try connecting my desktop PC with a DVI-HDMI cable.

Picture Quality - I use a Topfield PVR connected via RGB scart. I did tune the LG's inbuilt tuner during the initial setup and it picked up a load of channels. I didn't pay attention to whether it had found everything it should have as I don't intend using that tuner.

Picture on SD Freeview through the Topfield is very good. I watched a recording of 'Nature's Great Events' and it was quite fantastic. Felt like watching HD! I was impressed as soon as I switched it on and it got even better once I had tweaked the settings. I started with the settings posted by 'bobsalvador' on these forums. At first, I thought the blacks weren't deep enough and I began to feel a bit disappointed. But I changed the 'black level' (in advanced control) from high to low and it made them much better, in my opinion. Now I love the picture.

Having just changed from a decent quality CRT, I half expected the picture to be slightly worse than before but I can honestly say it's even better (unless you sit way too close to the screen). I think my viewing distance is about 2 metres.

Sound Quality
- I have pretty poor hearing and am not the best person to judge sound quality. However, the 'clear voice' setting really works for me. I usually miss a lot of the dialog but now I can hear it much better without having to raise the volume (to the annoyance of my family) or wear headphones.

So overall, I am really chuffed with this TV. I paid £396 for it with free delivery from Beyond Television. I was very impressed with their service, especially when they shipped it to an offshore island in the Hebrides for nothing!

@alahen: Is the picture stretched on the screen? A resolution of 1024x720 isn't even proper 720p - it's meant to be at least 1280x720..Is it noticable?

When I first saw that the resolution was 1024x720, I too was a bit concerned. However, after some research I discovered that this is normal for plasmas because, unlike LCDs, their pixels are rectangular. Therefore, a resolution of 1024x720 gives a perfect widescreen image.

First of all I'm glad you like it

The orbitter is a prevention technique, you can, from time to time, see it kicking in but as soon as you've seen it happen once or twice (like me) you don't notice it. White washing is for if you get bad IR, if it doesn't come off when watching TV then put it on that for 10 minutes. Don't put it on all the time though, it reduces panel life, although only slightly so it's fine from time to time

re: Lg 32pg6000 - Part 1

Hi

I previously said i would post a review of my 32pg6000 once i had it setup as i wanted. Which is now the case.

Firstly for info i use the following settings :-

Audio (Calibrated using a Frequency Sweep of 1Hz-22KHz through the LR phono inputs on AV3)

Auto Volume: On
Clear Voice: Off
Balance: 0
Sound Mode: Standard (User)
SRS TruSurroundXT: Off
----------
80Hz: 0
220Hz: -2
470Hz: -5
1KHz: -5
2.2KHz: -5
4.7KHz: -5
12KHz: -4

Freeview Picture Settings (Calibrated using the hidden BBCi testcard)

Picture Mode: Expert1
Contrast: 90
Brightness: 55 (some may want to raise this for more details but it sacrifices pure blacks)
Sharpness: 0
Colour: 38-(For normal to highly saturated progs) 40-(For older films and progs)
Tint: 0
----------
Expert Control
Fresh Contrast: Off
Noise Reduction: Off
Gamma: Medium
Black Level: (Stuck on Auto for me)
Film Mode: On for films otherwise off
Colour Standard: HD
----------
White Balance: Medium
Red Contrast: 0
Green Contrast: 0
Blue Contrast: -3
Red Brightness: -1
Green Brightness: 0
Blue Brightness: -3
----------
Red Colour: -1
Red Tint: -2
Green Colour: -7
Green Tint: -10
Blue Colour: 0
Blue Tint: -1
Yellow Colour: -2
Yellow Tint: 0
Cyan Colour: -5
Cyan Tint: -7
Magenta Colour: -1
Magenta Tint: 11

I actually found these settings on a review of the 32pg6000 on amazon and found they are virtually perfect for my preference. Minor tweaking may need to be done in the longer term. One thing i have noticed with these settings is they create minor IR on my set with programmes which are broadcast in 4:3. As i have less than 100 hours so far i am hoping this will get better / stop completely but like i say it is only minor IR which is gone in 10 secs or so.

I find the picture quality to be absolutely amazing through BT Vision HDMI @ 720p. The vision box upscales amazingly well and the LG displays like a HD signal on the better signal quality channels. Sound quality is also very good on this set.

My Samsung DVD home cinema system is connected via component now (no HDMI on this) and this seems to have helped with the amount of jaggies. These have been much reduced compared to the scart connection.

The PS2 is connected via S-VID and i have not noticed any IR in the limited time i have spent on it (roughly 2hrs). What i have noticed is that this tv really shows up the poor quality of the last generation graphics!

If it will help anyone i have the tv wall mounted and i used the following bracket :-

PHILIPS Wall Mount Bracket for 23"- 37" Plasma LCD TV on eBay, also, Plasma LCD Mounts, TV Accessories, Consumer Electronics (end time 02-Apr-09 14:41:11 BST)

Fitted perfectly easily to wall and tv.

So to conclude i would heartily reccomend the 32PG6000 to anyone whos looking for a replacement for a CRT tv and doesnt want to go down the LCD route. I looked at LCD before picking up this one and i am so very glad i did! I can't see myself ever buying an LCD now.

What is the LG policy on lit/dead pixels ?

Asking as after 1 month of ownership my 32PG6000 has developed a lit red pixel, bottom right of the centre screen, which is annoying me.

re: Lg 32pg6000 - Part 1

You need to go to the shop first I think, I'm not sure if dead pixels are covered by warranty, lots of people take sets back to the shop for them though.

It might just be stuck though, do a search on google for stuck pixel solutions. Is 1 dead pixel that annoying though? I have one in the very top right of mine but I can only see it on a white screen if I'm about 8" from the screen, even then it's hard to find (and hurts my eyes!)

You can find my updated settings (only slightly changed) on page 33 of this thread, but they're for freeview and despite the fact I'd read some time ago that various devices into the same TV will only deviate slightly in the settings needed, I've recently found that different inputs actually need pretty varied settings.

So the only good bit of advice I can give is this:

Set the 'White Balance' setting to 'Medium' and use the 'Red, Green, Blue Contrast' settings to control the tint of Whites.

Use the 'Red, Green, Blue Brightness' setings to control the tint of the darker range of the greyscale.
You can turn the 'Colour' setting down to 0 here to clearly see the changes your making.

For the 'R, G, B Contrast' and 'R, G, B Brightness' settings, Green should be left at 0 with Red and Blue being raised or lowered however you want.

re: Lg 32pg6000 - Part 1

It was purchased from Bennetts Online.

The stuck 'red' pixel is most worrying when the screen is black. The lit pixel is visible on the last input device upon pressing the input button.

It is visible on all inputs, whether freeview or xbox (component).

The only way it disappears is if on freeview and the guide is up. The pixel shows as off-white. It can also sometime breifly disappear on an all white background.

Any ideas on a way to fix this problem or shall I try Bennetts ?

I'd try Bennetts first definitely, although if they're like other shops I think that they may say it has to be a 'cluster' of pixels before they'll exchange it as one or two pixels is technically deemed as acceptable (crap i know!) Not sure if this will be different though if its stuck on a colour.

Have you tried using the whitewash feature to shift it?? Not sure if this will help and please others shout out if this isn't a good idea but it may help if its just come on all of a sudden.

Again not sure if it would help but I'm pretty certain that you can get a red/green/blue avi file for stuck pixels. I got one for my psp so imagine there must be one for TVs. It cycles through a full red/green/blue image quickly and has worked on my psp for most of the pixels. Not sure if this is purely for LCD screens though.

Sorry if these don't help but thought I'd try!

Just thought I'd point out that Miggols broke the 1000th comment on pg 67 on this thread. I think that about 500 of these must have been contributed by Monarch but I reckon I must be second with about 70!!!

I have been a fairly consistent poster on this thread since post 30 or so...I've read every single post on this thread

I've received a mail from Bennetts today attempting to push their '3 years peace of mind policy'

On checking the small print it says this about Plasma...
'Not covered if: Repairs due to pixel failure where the number or location is not in excess of the manufacturer's acceptable limit

I shall try calling LG tomorrow then

Where is the 'whitewash' option on this plasma ?

I did try the stuck pixel option on a trial of JScreenFix. This lets you select the problem area when connecting my laptop via HDMI. It colour cycled the area very fast for 10 minutes but it did not fix the problem.

re: Lg 32pg6000 - Part 1

It's on 'option'-'ISM method'-then select 'white wash'. It just makes the screen all white, don't leave it on for too long (10-15 max)

Thanks for the info. I tried it for 15 minutes, but no fix.
