Pioneer Plasma's Settings and Information

First settings below for LX5090,

LX6090 will follow tomorrow and they are different.

This will get you into the ballpark of what an ISF calibrated set will look like.

The settings are likely to be tweaked next Friday as the set I am using for these setting will be well past 200 hours by then.

It is no substitute for a proper calibration and it is using the movie mode of which the settings will work across all inputs.

No 2 sets that I have calibrated have the identicle settings. There are good calibrators that frequent the forum and they will only be too pleased to provide thier services to you.

You will have to keep changing Pure cinema modes depending on the source you are using.

Any questions please ask them in the main 9G thread.

Further settings will be added and it will take about a week for this thread to become full with info you are likely to need.

Re: Pioneer Plasma's Settings and Information

The launch of these sets is approaching and there is a lot of speculation, some correct some not.

This initial post will appear here and the Pioneer settings and information sticky thread which is at the top of the plasma forum page. That is what will be updated with the settings and the correct information.

The menus are different on these sets, so it now time for their own thread.

The KRP/A is the media box model
The KRP/M is the monitor model. This is likely (hopefully) do be very different in function to the KRP/A and LX models.

PRICES HAVE NOT BEEN SET YET and anything published is only what was intially banded about at the dealer and press launch. The 5090/6090 final pricing was higher than the figures at the launch.

It is widely expected that there will be a £3-£400 difference between a LX and a KRP/A but this is speculative and may well change.

These sets will be not be available from all dealers so it may be worth checking with Pioneer that the dealer you wish to purchase from is an authorised one, otherwise you could end up with a grey import.

Let's clear things up re the onboard Tuners.

SATELLITE
The KRP/A has a HD satellite tuner, it will pick up FTA (free to air) broadcasts that are the correct format from the satellite that your dish is lined up to.

That means it WILL pick up the "Freesat broadcasts" which are actually the same as SKY's unencrypted FTA broadcasts.

The thing that differentialted the 2 services are the EPG (Electronic program guide) and the red button interactive and teletext services.

It the ability not to decode the EPG (which actually comes from another satallite) that the KRP cannot do.

TERRESTRIAL
The HD tuner is a DVB-T tuner, it has litterally just been decided that the standard that will be employed in the UK is to be DVB-T2, and even now the final specs are still to be decided.

Quite simply DVB-T is fine for "mainland Europe" but not here wher HD Freeview will be DVB-T2.

This simply means that SD Freeview will work, but not HD Freeview.

Here is the PIONEER KRP LINK with some current info.

Here are 2 from the dealer launch

KRP 500/600A

KRP 500/600M

I will add to this over the next few days.

Re: Pioneer Plasma's Settings and Information

Not a discussion thread
Steve will upload the settings for the 8g and 9g panels in this thread. To discuss any of these points or if you have issues please direct your questions to the Owners thread in the main forum. Once the settings have been posted here the thread will be closed down for use as a reference point only. Any posts below here will be deleted. However if other calibration experts have any suggested settings that they have found please PM me so we can add them in here as well.

This is not an official AVForums thread but a basic resource for a good starting point to picture settings for Pioneer plasma screens. It should be bourne in mind that each TV set and it's viewing environment is different and as such, what looks accurate or correct on one set in one room, will be wrong in another. There are many factors that will affect picture and for an accurate solution to get the very best out of your Pioneer, AVForums recommends a professional calibration. There are many ISF trained calibrators on AVForums and for more information see http://www.imagingscience.com/isf-trained.cfm selecting United Kingdom or check out those who support the forums through advertising and offering help with posted questions. There is also an ISF forum here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/isf-thx-calibration/
