Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

Like the 8G thread this will be for 9G owners.

Keep checking back here this is where settings will be posted and when allowed to will post all sorts of info regarding the sets.

This first post will continue to grow with info.

There is a microsite now up on Pioneers web site but I guess thay are still working on it as it is a bit flakeyand the numties have put the H models up, I stress these are NOT available here in the UK.

I will add a link in my sig to come back to here like with 8G

I have already spoke with the ISF guys in Belgium and the feeling is that with the 5090/6090 the existing software will work, but for the KRPs work is likely to be needed but there is 3-4 months for that to be done. But no tests have been done, as soon as I get my mits on one I will check this out.

****SETTINGS WILL APPEAR BE HERE SHORTLY****

The 3 models With feature list

LX 5090/6090

KRP 500/600 Media Box

KRP 500/600 Monitor

LX6090 Undermount speaker

LX6090 Rear shot

Bumtious

***PLEASE NOTE THE SPECS MAY CHANGE PRIOR TO LAUNCH***

Does this mean that the signal is processed differently on the KRP's than onthe 5090/6090

No it does not, the menu is totally different and there will be some pretty nifty stuff, like visual readings of what the picture is doing, and the command lines may be different, dont know yet, but sencore have got till October to get it right so there is plenty of time.

Hi mate, do you know a reliable ISF certified calibrator in Belgium ?
I would like to let my 608 calibrated, so if you could send me coordinates, even via PM, I would help me a lot.

Regards

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

I'm considering buying one of the 5090s, but dont know if I should wait for the KRP 500.

The 5090/6090 has an SD digital tuner. Does this mean that if a program on a digital freeview channel that is broadcast in HD will not be produced as a HD signal on the TV but instead will be produced as an SD digital signal?

Just because it says SD/HD terrestrial doesn't mean it wil definitely be compatible with HD Freeview. See: http://www.avforums.com/forums/home-cinema-tech-news/765544-official-pioneer-gb-press-launch-9th-generation-kuro-models-more-post7079289.html and in particular...

Why? Well the full HD Freeview specs haven't been completely decided yet, so you can't be compatible with something you don't know 100%...

Freesat spec obviously have, but Ive still read a post stating that the KRP's will still not be fully compatible with all the features of Freesat - in particular the red button services and seeing as this is how ITV HD is going to be accessed, if this is true, it seems to be a bit pointless waiting for the KRP's?

Freesat is a "hack" to piggyback a free service off Skys transponders. In terms of DVB specs, it places all the usual network tables at high PIDs. Additionally, the EPG data is compressed. All this means porting a standard DVB stack to support freesat is a non-trivial task. Having said that, the raw mechanism for delivering Freesat is standard DVB-S2 so it would be relatively easy to get these services seen. What isn't easy is to get the complete user experience (installation, EPG, reminders etc...) sorted.

Freeview HD will also need to be an amalgamation of whatever is there presently and HD services. The UK has a particular flavour of DVB that means there are specifics which need to be taken into account in the software. I'd expect that for Freeview HD, something similar will be needed. Given that I wouldn't really expect any significant Freeview HD services to be running until close to finalised switchover, I think any implementation now is likely to be buggy and therefore would require support through to 2012 when the service would become live. If it were me, I wouldn't be advertising Freeview HD connectivity due to the support activity, but I would be looking at Freesat HD - probably via an OAD - some time at the end of the year. But I'm not Pioneer...

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

arad has goy it right, Free sat and HD freeview is as he says it, freesat will be able to picked up just no EPG or red button function. HD Freeview the broadcast standard has not been decided yet so the hd tuner that will work in Main Europe may not wrok here.

I'm off on holiday for a week now see you Next Sunday
