To add to that. Give it a couple of days to get used to the settings

makes sense at the moment mate how many people are splashing out £2800 on TV's at the moment?

most discounted prices come from pioneer themselves but im sure margins arnt that small and a healthy profit is made but dont begrudge a company for making money

all i know is this is the kind of drop i was waiting for and I will now be ordering myself a 500a

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

Serves my right for being an early adopter in July! LOL! £2400 with 1yr warranty.

Now £1645 with 5yr warranty!

Got to be bad news for Pioneer though. Prices are falling too rapidly.

Damn right, but not before substantially lowering pio amplifier/br player prices!!

In all fairness, I just heard on another forum that TLC retrospectively refunded the differences on some sets just ordered previous to the stupendous price drops. First class customer service but I agree this doesn't do pioneer and the Kuro label any good.

regards

Just got the 5090 from TLC delivered Thursday (I think Tony is pretty relieved that I'm not harassing him anymore) - and I have to echo other's sentiments about how refreshing it was to talk with people that were truly knowledgeable.
After putting in bumtious' settings, I have a quick question for everyone out there: rather than manually switching between "Advanced" and "Off" under Pure Cinema, wouldn't it be a few less clicks to set the Standard and Movie mode settings identically, only difference being one has Pure Cinema set to Advanced and one set to Off - that way, you'd only have to change the mode, rather than dig deep into the menus.
Am I missing something here?
My only srcs are SkyHD, Blue Ray / SD DVD.
Thanks in advance for any feedback on this!
I tried something similar by copying the pure mode settings and applying them to the user preset. Result? - they look nothing like each other.....

Forget about any January sales in 2009 because it will not be happening.

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

Just had my sky HD installed. Whilst HD 1080i is an obvious improvement on the 5090's in-build freeview tuner, SD looks decisively mediocre compared to the Pio's own tuner.

Is there a common consensus on what the best settings for the SKY HD box are?

At present it's connected through hdmi, input 3, set at 1080i, contrast at medium. Is that correct or is there a better way?

thanks

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

To get better SD from Sky either set to Auto, or run an RGB Scart or S-Video in addition to the HDMI for use when watching SD channels (leave box set at 1080i).

guys ,

what does '36 bit' mean when it shows in the corner ? Something to do with deep colour ? What does it do when its a Blu ray dics being played ?

Does it mean the displayed image is not 24p, as KF stated this once ?

Don't know what 36bit means (Deep Colour is 32 or 48bit) but it won't have anything to do with the framerate.

I'll be the lone person going the other way I think!

Knowing Pioneer have this kind of flexibility on margin I'll probably return my set under Distance selling regulations, only got it a week back for £500 more even though I'll miss this offer I'm pretty sure I'll be getting it a lot cheaper than I paid for it in the New Year, I'll just have to make do in the meantime.

Wouldn't normally bother but this sort of price differential is too much to ignore to be honest, so I'll give TLC a shout tomorrow.

I'll miss my Pio, although the more time I spend with it the more I think you really do need ISF to get the best out of it.

Can't blame you. I personally think it was/is a ridiculous move sure to make a lot of people re-think about when to buy next time. It's going to back fire. A bit like Musical Fidelity ... you just know that within a short period you get the things half price.

As regards to quality of the tv, it is everything the tests/punters say but they need to at least double the brightness of the panels on the next gen models imo.

I think a couple of people tried to get RS to price match but they are unable to do so, apparently because they did'nt get the same pioneer prices from the distributor. If that is the case I could imagine a few retailers/stockist getting very annoyed with pioneer. Could be interesting ...

Can't this set easily produce higher than 40ft/L without white clipping though? What more do you want? Scorched retinas?

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

In the all to brief time I've had the set for the only issue I really had with it while using the recommended settings, was a lack of detail in dark scenes, is that something which would improve with further running in or is a full ISF calibration required to address that?
