However, if you are connecting devices using HDMI, then you should enable HDMI control (or Viera link in panny speak) on both appliances (or all 3 if using an amp). This should give you the one-button switch on and automatic switching you desire (Google "HDMI CEC" if you want to learn more).

But not if connected to 2. It is just a 'feature' of Viera's that they will power on to HDMI 1, whether they have CEC or not (Sky HD doesn't)
Thanks guys for your assistance, the weird thing is that I don't have
"power on preference" in my set. I have a PZ81E, maybe that could make the difference. Anyway I'm still trying to solve this. Where on your menus do you have this option? Is there anyone who knows how this works on a E-model?

The European PZ81E range of TV's are very different to the British PZ81B range.... They don't even have satellite tuners

If the PZ81E range has an "power on preference" option. I would have thought it would be listed in the operating instructions/manual....

Guide for DVB (Freeview)

Is anyone else having problems with the guide for DVB (Freeview) channels tonight? Earlier it wouldn't display the Guide page if it included ch. 7, now it won't display at all - it just flicks back to the current channel.

If it's not fixed itself by tomorrow I'll have to try a factory reset.

Theres another thread on this for the PZ80B, basically the latest freview firmware update has broken the guide for channels 1 through 10 - it works for anything above this. I'm sure they will get complaints and get a fix out ASAP.

Thanks for the info. I did a Factory Reset this morning, and it seems OK for now.

EDIT: No, it's broken again!

Re: Guide for DVB (Freeview)

Hi All,

Right just been in the local panasonic shop and they've offered me the 46", Blu-ray player, cabinet stand, and 5 years guarantee (on the TV) for £1400, they will also do, £140 down and £70 per month for 18 months, so this is becoming compelling now.

I only have room for the 46", is there anything I need to know about this, any issues or things I need to consider which will save me reading this entire thread, before I take the plunge.

Also, could you guys confirm if this is a good offer, looks cool to me.

Thanks in advance.

BLU RAY JUDDER!

Bought the 42" model a few weeks ago. Everything is perfect to me regarding this Plasma

But my only problem is Blu Ray playback. Bought myself the Panasonic DMP-BD35 player under recommendation. It upscales my SD discs brilliantly. However Blu Ray playback is full of picture judder.

I've set the DVD setup menu to 24p and HDMI to 1080p. Thought that would solve the problem.. Can't seem to find any menu setting on the Plasma to solve this. Am I missing something on the TV or DVD menu?

Any help from you guys would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi
I think this is a brilliant deal so much so that i have gone for the 50" deal today at £1599. Considering that the cheapest cabinet price i can find is £208, cheapest DMP-BD35 is £235 plus (apparently) £98 phones thrown in and a 5 Year Guarantee and the delivery charge knocked off brings the Tv price down to around £1028. Oh and with the bluray player you can claim 2 free blurays (Prince Caspian and National Treasure) worth £30! I was told that prices are going up in the new year and now is the best time to buy (have read about this from different sources due to pound falling and economic conditions) but i like the fact that i will have it next week in time for xmas. I say to you GO FOR IT!

Mine's broken too. I'm not going to do a factory reset, takes too long to sort out the satellite channels. I'll wait 'til it's fixed. Just glad it ain't the telly that's faulty.

It should be under setup, not picture.

Films flicker/judder on fast moving objects anyway, it's part of the nature of 24p, and it's usually more noticeable on HD than SD, along with grain and suchlike. Intelligent Frame Creation is designed to smooth over this, leading to a more fluid picture. However, many people, myself included, cherish the "film look" including this juddering.

cabinet is TY-S50PZ80W. If you're anywhere near Bedford I'm selling one - see TV classifieds on this forum. Otherwise I think Empire Direct are cheapest.

The judder I'm talking about is pretty bad and makes the movies look terible.

Can someone tell me where I can access the Intelligent Frame Creation as it doesn't appear on my picture/setup menu when using the HDMI connection.

Re: Panasonic 42PZ81, 46PZ81 & 50PZ81 with Freesat

Hi all,

Thinking of changing my Pioneer 427xd to one of these. My nearest Panasonic shops are in Milton Keynes Leicester or Hertfordshire. Are they all doing the same deal or do you need to haggle with them ? Would be interesting to know what shops you managed to get deals from ? Also I have Sky + at the moment is it just a case of connecting another cable to receive Freesat and could I do it myself ?

Cheers

Press the "Menu" button, then select "Setup". On page 1 of the "Setup" menu you will find the "Intelligent Frame Creation" option (it's the 7th option down).

Is the players firmware up-to date?

Thanks. Just got the DMP-BD35 player from Amazon two weeks ago. Version 2. Do I need to update the firmware?

I guess that depends on whether your players firmware is up-to date...

To (hopefully) put your mind at rest. I run a Toshiba HD-EP35 (HD-DVD) player and have several 24p authored movies. They look fine on my 46PZ81B.... So 24p can be displayed

Re: Panasonic 42PZ81, 46PZ81 & 50PZ81 with Freesat

Hi Guys

With TV set to Freesat BBC HD I get Dolby Digital 5.1 to my AV amp (Optical)

I now have a Humax Foxsat HDR, that connects to the TV via HDMI 1, when I view Freesat BBC HD via the Humax I get Digital Audio from the TV but its NOT DD5.1, The Humax is producing DD 5.1 (out of its own optical out).

Q. Should DD5.1 come up the HDMI? and should it get passed to the TV optical out in DD5.1?

I do have HDMI 1 set to Digital

Sounds like your Humax is doing what the SKY box does, 5.1 goes to optical out and the HDMI has standard stereo.

From time to time I send the audio from my Panny's optical output to my surround sound amplifier... When watching the BBCHD channel I've noticed most of the output is 2Ch Dolby Digital and not 5.1 Dolby Digital

More alarmingly, I've found that some output is being "flagged" as 5.1 Dolby Digital but only contains two active channels

Re: Panasonic 42PZ81, 46PZ81 & 50PZ81 with Freesat

Hi thinking of getting one the 50pz81 today from Cramptonandmoore for £1399 with bluray player and wall mount.

Not sure whether to go for the pz80 and a humax hd box instead though.

Can anyone help me make my mind up please??

Is it also possible to record the hd channels to a tvix 6500 or 7000?

Thanks
