Re: PS3. which plasma?

Samsung without a doubt .

LCDs are also wourth a big thought if your going to be using it mainly for games (no screen burn/retention issues)

Re: PS3. which plasma?

ok thanks, I wanted somthing for under £700 but no smaller than 42" so I wasnt too sure what LCD would be good, Its a shame I cant afford abit more and go for a 1080p TV but 720p 1080i will be good enough I hope.

Thanks

Re: PS3. which plasma?

I'd say the bite the bullet over the size and get a 37" panasonic plasma. It will be far superior to either the LG or Samsung. I personally wouldn't touch a plasma unless it was a panasonic or pioneer , they really are that much better than the rest.

Re: PS3. which plasma?

There is always the Sharp XD1EA which would be more suited to gaming and can be had for a little over £700.

How long do you play in periods? couple hours a time or longer?

What else will you use the TV for?

Re: PS3. which plasma?

Thanks again guys. I wont really be using it for any longer than 2 hours at a time, I guess I will be watching some Bluray movies through my PS3 too.
I will check out the other sets you have said about.

Thanks

Re: PS3. which plasma?

I much prefere the Samsung Plasma to the Panasonic. The Samsung is much sharper - something a recent magazine review - doing a direct comparison - confirmed.

LCD is 'safer' for (a lot of) gaming - but don't expect the kind of 'depth' and constrast (black level) on an LCD that the likes of Panasonic and Samsung get from their Plasma's.

You just have to be a bit more careful with the picture settings on a Plasma (avoid 'vivid' and 'dynamic' picture modes) and you should be fine - especially at only 2 hours of gaming.

I'm considering the Samsung 42" and 50 " C96 (or Q97) that can be had for around £700/£950 (or less) which is superb VFM.

Reviews of them are very good too...

The only LCD's i've liked are the Samsung M and F series (good blacks for LCD but both have 'issues') and the Sharp XD1E ranges. The 37" Sharp (which is 1080p) would just about fall into your price range - but only works at 1080p over HDMI.

Re: PS3. which plasma?

Thanks for your reply, I have just ordered the Samsung, I have it on a 14 day 'no string attached' trial so I will see what I think.

Thanks again guys

Good choice.

Let us know how you get on. Don't forget to use the Samsung Plasma settings thread to help you get the best out of it - especially during the 'run in' phase.

I agree with that, but add fujitsu into the mix.

The OP said he wanted something 42" and under £700 - so the Fujitsu was never an option.

Re: PS3. which plasma?

Good choice on the Samsung. I have only seen a couple Panasonic Plasmas that havent looked out of focus. The Samsungs appear much sharper.

Brand snobs eh.

Alternatively we might just have far more experience , understanding and better display appraisal abilities than some hack journo. Of course you can buy whatever you like : lots of people will take a Big Mac over a fillet steak.

its not exactly down to just experience. Most people know what they see. Just think it is absolutely ignorant to say one technology is better than another. there may be something i dont like but you may feel the opposite. you have more experence then whoopeedooo it doesnt mean what i see doesnt exist (and its not just me).

You know very well if the panasonic had a Goodmans badge on it people wouldnt be kicking up as much fuss. Sure its a good TV i just havent seen anything that puts it leaps above the rest of the plasmas.

Plasma or LCD which one? They are both unique just leave it at that an enjoy what you have!

The level of snobbery and arrogance of some people on this site is, at times, truly shocking.

Re: PS3. which plasma?

Good choice on the Samsung. I spent a long time comparing the Samsung to the Panasonic PX70, and the Samsung was better in my opinion. The Panasonic is good, just not up to the crisp Samsung picture.

Not regretted my decision since, especially after reading PX70 owners complaining about ghosting and phosphur trails on the XBox 360 which I guess would be a problem on the PS3 too.

I would tell people to buy a Matsui if it had good picture quality.
The Panasonic is hardly an expensive set. Ever heard of inverted snobbery?

and that'll do I think. The OP has an answer. This isn't going anywhere constructive.
