LG 50PC55 too good to be true??

I would like to upgrade my existing LG 42" plasma to a 50" with 1080p and IDT.

Is the 50PC55 a European set?

I've seen it on several websites and they all list it as a true 1080p panel, ie. 1920 x 1080 pixels.

It can be found for as cheap as £1,400 which seems very cheap!!!

Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Blimey!!!!

I've been waiting for the 50px70 from panasonic to be at JL.....

this link http://www.247electrical.co.uk/epage...PC55?SOURCE=AW
suggests it is true HD (1920 x 1080)

Anyone?

Indeed, it does seem too good to be true!!!

Probably.

Fuller spec here - even the contrast ratio looks great!:

http://www.rtd.uk.com/product.asp?su...oductid=50PC55

And top it all, claims it accepts a 24p input!?!?!

but look at the resolution............

* Resolution: 1366 x 768p

This is too low for full HD, isn't it??

Re: LG 50PC55 too good to be true??

AJ Electronics show it as having full 1080p resolution...

http://www.ajelectronics.co.uk/ViewP...od_code=50PC55

Just no reviews so far.. Must be brand new.. LG invented plasma right? They should be at the cutting edge really, so maybe are able to release an advanced set for a very low price..

Yep, ur right, here's an official looking brochure, albeit in French, but its easy enough to decipher and this confirms its NOT a full HD set

http://www.cobrason.com/data/fr/pdf/50PC55.pdf

And review of 42" here:

http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/television...9290091,00.htm

In other words, move along people, nothing to see here ...

Re: LG 50PC55 too good to be true??

i was thoroughly impressed with the 50pc55. i have never had a large flat panel before and the colour and picture quality was awesome. it is very light too for such a large panel. since i am novice in my experiences with flat panel displays take my advice with a pinch of salt. nevertheless i think it is excellent. i paid 1100 pounds for it which is not bad. the screen accepts 1080p but turns it into 1080i i think. so it is not native 1080p. search on google/lg website for the 42pc55 instructions to get the full manual. i tested it with my ps3 (games and blu-ray) and also computer and the display was perfect. very bright display with little ghosting/retention on very low power/contrast/brightness setting.

Re: LG 50PC55 too good to be true??

The PC55 models are not full HD but 1366 x 768 (50") and 1024 x 768 (42").
PC 55 replaces the PC1D models. The new models accept 1080p: 24/30/50/60p and also include 100/120 Hz.
However PF95 is the Full HD 1920 x 1080 -now available at 60" later this year also at 50".

You can get the specifications here:
http://uk.lge.com/proddivergent.do?a...ategory_level=

There is interesting review in Swedish here:
http://prylportalen.mkf.se/ArticlePa...MKF857.dbp.asp

They compare the LG PC55 with Panasonic PX70 and conclusion is that both gives great picture-Panasonic is a bit softer and LG a bit sharper.
They also like the user settings possibility on LG-you can set individual colour settings etc... and the Clear filter which reduce the reflections.
They highly recommend the LG PC55 (5 stars).

Sorry had quite a bit on last month, but it gave me a chance to give the LG a thorough road test.

First a bit about me.

I don't claim to be an expert in plasma tvs, but I have worked in the electronics industry for over 20 years and through this job I have had chance to see/test/install many panels in many different locations, from Airports and Pubs to Home Cinemas and Shopping Malls.

My home system is pretty basic ATM as I got fed up with forking out £1,000s on up-to-date kit many years ago.

It comprises; LG50PC55 Plasma, Sky+, Tevion upscaling DVD player, Sony STR-DB940 Amp, Lite-On HDD-DVD Recorder, 4 x Warfdale NXT speakers, 1 x JA Audio in wall speaker & a Yamaha YST-SW320.

Now to the LG Plasma...

The TV is big (obviously), but the Piano Black surround and curved rear make it look very stylish. Having the speakers under the panel makes it not much wider than my old 42" plasma that had it's speakers on either side.

For a 50" panel the picture from SD sources is very good. After manys hours of playing with the sets settings I managed to get a picture that has great blacks (although not as deep as the Pioneer or Panasonic) high contrast, truthfull colours and realistic skin tones.

There is almost a complete abscence of haloing (solarisation) even on dark, misty, foggy or underwater scenes.

There is zero after image even when watching fast moving films or footy matches.

Depending on the quality of the source the image displayed is clear and sharp, but not too sharp that it looks edgy or digital.

Upscaled DVDs (Component in, set at 720p) look stunning.

SKY+ (RGB) looks almost as good when watching high bandwidth channels like SKY Movies or SKY Sports, but does suffer on some of the low bandwidth channels or old tv re-runs that are lower in quality than todays offerings.

Freeview is quite a mixed bag. Sometimes looking clear and sharp and others looking pixely with slight after image. All I can put this down to is the bandwidth of Freeview coupled to the quality of RF signal coming into my house which I know is pretty low.

All the inputs have there own preferences so that you can set your colour, brightness, etc. individually for each of your sources.

The speakers are loud and clear with good bass, but can at some frequecies have a tendency to make the cabinet resonate.

I'm in the process of getting SKY HD and a PS3 (when money allows) and I will add to this review regarding the sets HD perfromance when they arrive.

All in all for £1500 I am very impressed and pleased with my purchase and would not hesitate to recommend this set to someone who wants a large HD plasma that does not break the bank!

Any questions please feel free to ask...

Re: LG 50PC55 too good to be true??

Can this TV be wall mounted?

Looking to buy from Dixons at £972 but they say its not wall mountable but LG say it is.

I'm inclined to believe LG but would like any owners to confirm if they have it mounted.

Thanks

Where do Dixons get there info from!!! tut, tut, tut!

I have mine wall mounted. I used a £10 bracket from Ebay that is suitable for upto 62" screens.

Like this one, but without the tilt...

BTW £972 is a phenomenal price for any 50" plasma

Re: LG 50PC55 too good to be true??

After a couple of months use I can add a couple of negatives to the review.

1. There is no On/Off switch on the TV. Just a STANDBY switch

2. The panel suffers quite a bit from image retention, but I hasten to add it is NOT screen burn.

I haven't seen any image retentions or burns, but I only had used this couple of hours. SD picture is very good, especially in dvds with component (I don't have hdmi). Also that crap-quality what they send freeview in here Finland isn't that bad. (not seeing artefacts often, only with low quality.) In-build freeview decoder is maybe better than in PX70.

Here in Finland this tv cost about 300euros less than PX70. If you can get PX70 about same price, maybe you should buy that.

I'm very happy with the picture. Only one thing is now bugging me, and that is electric noise. I don't know that has every plasma this kind of noise, because in stores I couldn't hear any buzz in this tv. But in home especially at night with low volume the buzz is annoying.

I saw in store Casino Royale blu-ray, and it had some juddering. But not very bad. Also PX70 has juddering.

Dixons came out and checked my tv today, its being replaced, due to intermitting flashing. i also was experencing buzzing as well, but the tech guy says all plasma's do that and if that was just the fault it would not have been replaced.

These tech guys don't know anything... I used to work for dixons group. Same with computers... lol the staff are happy to sell you a core duo PC but when you ask them more details about the processor, they don't know what to tell you.
