Smile Me too - USA!!!

Good morning from Chicago, USA.

I'm in the club too, thankful to find the site. And of ALL days for my 42PD7200 to die.. RIGHT BEFORE THE DAMN OLYMPICS..

Wife says the screen felt hot and it just turned off. Will not power up.

Note, I have been back from Europe since 2006, bought in Germany. I run the unit plus Marantz gear on a 110/220v converter. Worked for years, so, I do not suspect a problem there.

I see lots of comments for changing resistors, buying parts on eBay. I have an ohm/multi-meter but do not see anyone posting pics.. ie.. CHECK THIS ONE.. FIX THIS ONE.. HERE IS THE PESKY PART, etc..

It's 00:07 here now on 28 Saturday.. Olympics are on again in 4 hours.. please someone tell me where all these little resistors and relays are so I can get this repair done before the games get exciting..

Hope you all have tickets and are typing my help from your cell phones in the stadium!!!

Cheers and thanks for any help..

Clicking noise

Hay every one. I've googled and searched this thread but wow it's long and I can't seem to find much of an answer. I just got this TV so know little about it.

The problem, TV is making a clicking noise sometimes a lot sometimes not so much. I read about the PSU problems could this be the start of it's death?. or something else.

Also, forgive me for asking this, will my model (42PD5200) tune in to a analogue signal or do I need some sort of converter to get regular TV channels?.

Any help appreciated.

littlejohn100,
I don't know what the clicking noise is but I don't think it's anything to do
with the PSU and yes you can recieve analogue signals on your TV.

Hi thanks for heads up, I've been doing a lot research on this, the problem with my TV is when I turn up the brightness, colour, sharpness etc the clicking gets worse, when the all those setting are turned down the clicking go's away.

It is coming from the PSU unit, at first I thought it might be the relays but this isn't the case the problem is a arcing inductor, some one suggested replacing the 2 big caps on the board but after some more poking around I don't think this will help the inductor needs replacing which basically means I need a new PSU unit unless I can find the part...I sort wish it was the common fault every one is having...plus side the TV works fine just has an annoying clicky sound.

Where are you getting all the part numbers???

Hello to anyone still about with this thread. Mine has popped again. Went first under warranty in 2006, and now again. luckily it is now only the bedroom telly, but I still want to fix it. I have been going through this thread, and I'm all good to go, but the one thing that I can't get my head around, is how people know the numbers of each resistor and cap. I've looked at the pictures on page 11, but they don't appear to have any numbers. Have I missed a diagram with all the component codes?

The component ref nos are always printed on the pcb adjacent to the component.

Bump - brilliant thread

Thank you so much to all contributors to this great thread. Thought I needed a new tv when my 42PD7200 died, not even a standby light. 69p for a 7w 10 Ohm resistor and little soldering later, and we're back in business.

Bumping for rankings

37pd5200 dead

hello from south africa

been reading this thread for an hour or so now, im fixing this tv (37pd5200) for a friend of mine. He took it in for a repair and they said it was the power supply. He ordered a new one and put it in himself. Currently the led comes on red then if i turn it on it turns green but theres no picture. I hear the relays click on then off. i did the diagnosis and it blinks 8 times. the power supply fuse is good and i just took off the PSU now. its new so i dont see why R003 and R005 should be bad. I quickly registered to use this forum as i see that people are still replying today so i thought wow i might get some help

anyway

i read that a few people are in this same dilemma

any help would be great

so i took a look at the board and the resisters were measuring 10 ohms but then i noticed D235 and D236 were burnt out. They have 0241 written on them, gonna see if i have any in some old boards, maybe im getting somewhere but why are these dead? did my friend short out something when he put the PSU back in. I usually only work on lcd panels but this is my first plasma

So great to see this thread is still alive! My trusty 7200 has a new lease of life being used by my son for his games consoles. Still going strong after 8 years or so - repair was done in early '08

Just giving my thanks to Toffelino

replaced the 5w resistor with the 7w alternative rather than the 10w and the set now works as it should

more probs

I meter them out from the back of the board. They go short circuit on all legs when failed. I just had q201 blow again after 4 hours working ? ..I had replaced q201,q220 and the two resistors, checked IC201 and no shorts on the SMD's so at a loss at what is causing q201 to blow up.

Brilliant post. My 42PD7200 was dead last night when I went to watch Top Gear. Googled with a heavy heart, found this thread, reserved an 84p resistor from my local Maplin (they really seem to be cashing in - the resistor is twice the price it was in the early posts!), fitted it today and BAM, it's as good as new.

Thanks guys! That's what I love about forums such as this (registered just so I could post this).

Nick

Only 1 of my 2SK2843 transistors has blown and I'm going to replace with a 2SK3568 as that is all I have and I can't be arsed to order one! Let you know if it works or goes bang!

Yep, fired right up, no problems. I replaced the two 5W / 10R resistors with two 7W / 10R resistors from Craplin (Different type, just extend the lead and stand on side) and the faulty / shorted K2843 with a K3568 out of a knackard Dell laptop PSU.
LOL - Total cost = £2.98
