Upgraded today, seems a bit smoother but runs just as hot as 1015. I will try and do a full calibration in the week and see how it performs :-)

Pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop......

Homes under the hammer on BBC HD and the whites are flickering like a git, panning on cloudy skies is awful.... Going to reset the pots I think as I've noticed pixel missfiring on other content too.

Yeah not watched in in a while, just had it on whilst having breakfast. I was surprised by the amount rather than it doing it. Takes the see really, not only are they showing SD on a HD channel but its **** poor SD at that. Reminds me of the quality feeds you see in stores like currys and comet lol.

Haha, yep its pretty poor, there's so much quick panning in that programme it could even be our eyes rattling in their sockets! Lol. I must record an episode and see how 1009 handles it lol.

Scooby I don't suppose you know if the ST50 runs anywhere near as hot as the Sammy do you?

I really can't handle the heat anymore coming from my set, my room is far too small and watching it, espcially a 3D film really, bumps up the room temp to a very uncomfortable level

I am looking at LCD/LED but no matter what I read everyones whinging about light bleed, DSE, Banding

Really don't know what to do! Does a decent LCD/LED exist? Is there a Plasma that doesn't want to cook me at the same time

Prior to all this F/W rolling back / forward lark my TV ran pretty cool with F/W 1019. Me dads 51" is fairly cool aswell but that came with 1016 and has Never been upgraded.
I think all plasmas will kick out heat so LCD maybe a better bet regardless of the other problems,
Oh scuzie im not Scooby

Ian, I went from a 59D6900 to a 65ST50 and the ST is cooler than the D6900 on 1019 if that helps. In fact so much so there's literally any heat coming from it (though I can only speak for my set).

And whilst I'm more than happy with my ST, I still think the D6900 was an exceptional TV.

Always happy to hear your thoughts Martin! He has shown a keen interest in the ST so I thought I would direct the question at him

I agree, the set did run 'cooler' on previous firmwares, 1019 was OK but it was still very hot. I think my issue is the size of my room (approx 11x12ft) coupled with the fact I only have one small window I honestly do not want to get rid of it but it's becoming so uncomfortable to watch. When I was in my own flat with a fairly large living room I never noticed the heat output, the TV was also by a window that was open all the time.

I'm really put off by what I have read on the LCD/LED threads!!

I would be grateful for anyones recommendations for a decent LCD/LED, I am willing to drop to 46 or 47 inch

Appreciate your input thats very helpful

I think I need to speak to someone who owns the ST50 in the other threads and find out, maybe even take a trip to Comet/Currys But thats not really any help as the shops are normally A/C'd!! Plus my local is rubbish, they never have the TV you want to look at

It appears to Scott from what I can see but if they are there and running, they make no noise whatsoever.

There's no buzz or fan noise and that's even when I've got my ear to the set. The only time I get a little buzz, and I do mean little, is on a very bright white scene.

Update: Insanity has answered the fan question which may explain why I can't hear them!

It certainly does Martin, though the heat coming from my 59D6900 never concerned me. Unlike yours, I could certainly hold my hand to it without fear of being burnt, and that applied to all FWs, not just 1019.

There is one problem...it looks so amazing i never get any work done when at home lol.
I think the gt and vt have fans but that i think is due to the processors running the extra gubbins you get with them. Eg dual processors and faster app loading times etc etc.
