Sorry mate know much about pc to tv set ups. Have you tried connecting with a different hdmi cable? You tried a different lower res like 720p or lower.
Sorry not much use with these things.

Anyway. Bit early for me to comment on banding or IR but the picture looks fantastic to me so far with nothing standing out. I'm a big sports fan so i guess i'll notice soon enough if there is anything distracting.

I do have a slight problem though. Iv'e connected a 10metre HDMI cable (v1.4) to a PC. The computer detects the panasonic TV when i connect it and after setting the TV in catalyst control centre to "Duplicate" my TV will auto switch to it (in hdmi slot1 for auto switching) but all it displays is a blank black screen on the HDMI 1 output.
Iv'e tried with all 3 hdmi slots and all fail to display my desktop on the tv
The graphics card being used is an Asus Direct CU 6850 with just a single samsung monitor plugged into it's DVI.
The monitors native res is 1920x1200 could this be the problem? When i apply the Duplicate setting it does force my monitor to 1920x1080 so i would presume it was then good and compatible with my TV but nothing. Just a black screen. Is there something within the panasonics controls i am supposed to do to view my desktop onscreen i am missing?
Settings in the graphics card, are you setup to output 1080p, not up on new cards but had my Nvidia GTX9800(I think it was) setup with a DVI to HDMI with a TV option selected not monitor and set the correct red for the set. PCs packed.away now or I'd take a look.
Maybe ask some PC guys. http://www.avforums.com/forums/graph...video-devices/

Hey Fellas,

Back in good ol blighty now from Oz, I see there was a TPS gathering recently. Did anyone see the 65ST50 on display, I'm looking at picking one up from TPS rather than Amazon - big price difference, or alternatively if the banding isue is that bad, the Sharp 70 inch LCD for very similar money at Curry's...

Cheers

After reading the last few posts I decided to check my ST50 again and I still maintain that I cannot see any bands. Its not the greatest pic with an iphone camera but serves it purpose (looks better in real life)
Any un-uniformity is the camera picking up flicker as it is different place depending on when i take picture

I spoke too soon
After just 10hrs of perfect picture this has happened..

This isn't something you can only see whilst watching football, sport or a grey screen slide nor is it me being pernickety this is just a damn straight green line as thick as a tree all the way down my bloody great big 50" TV that has just appeared from nowhere!

I'm not somebody that looks for faults and when i read some of the warning comments here i shrugged them off as just the few unlucky people and that there will always people who have problems come to the net to complain more than those who are happy with a purchased product. Well, I think it's safe to say now that these sets have issues. If my replacement has any issue at all i am going to seek a full refund.

Does the banding/lines affect all screen sizes or just the 50" - sorry I've read several pages on this thread but can't figure that one out.

Hi Scooby,

No joke buddy, the reviews the Sharp is TV is getting over in the states from ISF calibrators is very good, even the non 3d 80inch is getting decent reviews.

I'm converting a double garage into a theatre room and don't want to go the projector route. Most of my viewing on a set this big would be bluray movies on disc or media player, plus the odd HD Premier League game.

For normal TV, Sky, etc, I'll be picking up a 55VT30 off Amazon for the living room.

Back on topic though, of the two, I am leaning towards the 65ST50, although this line issue is giving me reason not to purchase. Does anyone know if it is present on the 65's ??

Regards

As one of the people from RS told me, delivery is not part of the deal, so even if it was free for the first time, what happens if my set has a problem and i want a replacement, am I going to have to keep paying the delivery charges until I get a decent set, and will they even allow a replacement at all.

So if anyone has any info, please let me know, cause they have the best deal for the st50 out of every one, at least as far as i can gather, but I just want the option of getting a replacement. Everyone who reads this thread knows that getting a decent set is kinda of a lottery.

Thanks a lot.
Hi Richi, its funny that my post about faulty sets and RS return policy was just before yours, the one talking about your recent purchase from RS. Now as you are planing to get a replacement, I hope you will answer my question and also hope to hear some reassuring words about RS return policy, regarding in-store purchase.

The '...line as thick as a tree...' bit cracked me up lol, but I hope as someone suggested here, that its a connection problem as you didn't see it the first time, and last i remember you were trying to get your pc connected to your st, so maybe reseting to factory default and trying a different HDMI might help. I do hope its a simple problem and that you don't have to go through the trouble of shifting 50 inch sets back and forth, either way please keep us posted.

Yeah it's on all inputs including viewing just using the inbuilt freeview unfortunatly. without anything connected at all via hdmi just the sets tuner it's there. Had my mum come round earlier and she spotted the line instantly hah.
Iv'e spoken with RS (what a hassle it was to get through to my branch to speak to the salesman) and they have none in stock but are going to send me out a replacement when they have stock and until then i can carry on using my faulty one. They did offer me a full refund but i'm willing to try again with the panel lottery game.
I'm going to try and go into the store before they send my replacement out to view it first this time.

@3dv. RS have been very fair with me i feel so far and they made no mention of any cost to me for the return. Only that they were sorry and that as soon as they had stock they would phone me and arrange for my TV to be replaced. Because of the delay in replacement and because (they said) i had reported the fault so soon (within 24hrs) it will be no extra cost to me other than the time and hassle of taking 1 off the wall and putting another up. If you live close to your branch of RS when/if you buy from them they will probably ask you if want to take it home in a taxi and will arrange one for you. It saves them £30+ insured carriage and i don't think it makes a difference to their returns policy as it's them that suggest the taxi and pay. Hasn't affected my return anyway. But my buying experience with them isn't over yet so we will have to wait and see how it all turns out.

What I'm thinking of doing is buying the st50 from Costco, due to their very generous 90 days return policy on TVs. In other words, if the tv has a fault like banding or buzzing and it's not to your liking you can take it back to them after using it, no questions asked for a full refund or replacement. It may work it a bit dearer than another store but if I'm playing a panel lottery I want a guarantee that I get a decent set. I am not a costco member, but I have a friend who is so will need to go with them to buy it.

If its faulty or not fit for purpose all stores will offer exchange or refund. I swapped a Samsung at currys no problem for buzzing second set buzzed so got full refund plus they picked it up free of charge. Now my panny is being replaced as soon as the Panasonic shop have some in stock. Don't know why u r worrying so much about returns policy mate

If you buy from RS just ask them to get it out the box and turn it on. let it autofind the freeview stations and just turn the channel to Kerang radio. You will know straight away if it's a good or bad panel or at the very least have a much lesser chance of finding issues when it gets to your home. I know some of the issues people have are much more subtle and maybe are not visible right away but checking your TV out before you pay for it is my real advice with these sets. if you can.
I can also report that my faulty ST50 has no buzz at all. Just hope my new one doesn't either.

Had to send my 42ST50 back as found a crack in the casing where the ethernet socket is. Gutted as it was the best TV I've ever had. Anyway, Amazon said to back to them for a refund. Got a 50ST50 coming tomorrow so both really excited and worried at the same time in case it's not as good, has some of the noted issues or looks worse cos it's bigger lol.

Ahem, there's nothing wrong with the 42".

In fact, Scarlett Johansson looks mighty fine in 1080p!

Anyone seen Piranha 3DD? lol

I'm enjoying the viewing experience on this set. It's spot on.

As i'm getting my TV replaced and am awaiting new stock i thought i would take this opportunity to test IR to the max and see how much these sets do or don't suffer with it. So i'm going to be doing all the things plasma owners try to avoid until they pick mine up.
I'll let you know how this goes.

42ST50 has been picked up. Getting very nervous now, can't keep sending TVs back lol. Thought the last one was perfect (bar the cosmetic damage) just hoping the 50ST50 will be as good!
