I see what you mean, when I got my 40" 5 years ago I had the biggest tv in the family. They all soon caught up.

which tv you think you will go for next? Any bigger than 65" and you'll have to limbo out the room

Rear or front firing? I used to have a 6ft picture from a screenplay 4805. Along time ago now but pj's are great.

i know it does look tiny, and the paint is alot darker than in the picture but it was all a rush got house at last min and only had 3 days to move in and it was shocking before, so paint was quick to chuck on, a year later all upstairs done just doing the stiars properly and then the front room and the kitchen will be done again.(doing the stairs at the moment) like right now.
and anyway i love blue its my fav colour,
what colours this.

I'm just over 10ft from my 50" and I always wished I had gone 60"

Get a 50" and it might look big at first but I guarantee after a couple of weeks it will seem as if its shrunk

About the same as yours 12x12 my viewing distance is about 10.8 ft.

The room its in is a loft space so has sloping ceilings so if anything it probably looks smaller than yours plus its not wall mounted either I certainly would go 60" in fact I've been considering a 65".

I don't think a 60" on your chimney breast would dominate the room especially as the new screens have hardly any bezel and its not wider than the chimney breast itself.

I would say though it might be worth checking out a 60" at your viewing distance first though just to make sure its comfortable viewing for you at that distance.

Get the absolute biggest size you can afford, its surprising how quickly you get accustomed to it once its in place.

Over the last 4 1/2 yrs ive gone from a 25" 4:3 tv to 42" widescreen to a 50" widescreen to a 60" widescreen and now my current 64", the only way to go bigger would be a panny but i REALLY dont wanto to go down that potholed road or i could buy a projector which i dont really fancy either at the moment.

A big screen adds a huge amount to any room and draws you into a film spectacularly especially if you have a sound system aswell

if funds allowed i would get the biggest tv that would fit into the room without having to be dismantled. but this is a pipe dream until i win the lottery, therefore in the bang for buck stakes we decided to go for a 51D8000 (£769 price match at john lewis, with 2 sets of 3d glasses and 5 year warranty) which imo is a lot of tv for the money. we could of spent more, budget was £1200-£1400 but decided other tv's were not worth paying nearly double for.

Is that 59" not very high up given the height and distance of the sofas? Must be like being in the front row at the cinema!

as big as you can physically get into the room in question (but not at the expense of picture quality)

already have a 50" Pioneer G9, so wont consider anything under 65" for my next tv (I would have to move to make a PJ worthwhile, but in the long term I would love one).

TV's appear to shrink frighteningly quickly once you get used to them, I just cant see the point of spending £1k+ for a 10% size increase (especially if the quality isnt going to be that much better)

But surely theres a limit to what you can get away with even if your used to a smaller screen. If you sat 8ft from a 70" screen and you got used to it, would you go 100"?

I based my decision on screen size taking into consideration what my main use is. I went with 50 inch - after being slightly tempted to go bigger than my old 50 inch PZ.

But for my use - plus distance from the screen - I didn't think 1080p was a good enough resolution for anything above 50 inch. I play a lot of console games and I can't even imagine what some of the poorer looking, and lower resolution games would look like on a 65 inch screen. I think my eyes would bleed if I saw a Wii running through a screen that size

That plus I sit maybe 7 feet away which I think is just the right distance for 50 inch.

It is true though how quickly you become accustomed to a large TV supposedly dominating the living room. When I went to buy a 42 inch set just after the new year, my uncle came along. He had been using a first gen Samsung LCD 32 inch set since the day they were launched here (paid £900 for it! how times change) but when he saw how small the 50 inch sets were in the showroom, he bought one on the spot without telling my aunt. She had always told him he wasn't having a set larger than 32 inch

She didn't believe me when I said she would get used to it. But even she admits that she doesn't notice it anymore when she walks into the living room. Think she would probably have killed him if he had bought a 65inch one though :D
