Mine for Friday.

I went to take a look at the 55st50 in a pana store and they gave us a good demo of SD, HD and some 3d Blu Ray content and I was very impressed so can't wait to take delivery on Friday.

I wanted 55 and had no need for the extra the VT offers.

Coming from an old LG 37" LCD this thing is going to be immense in PQ and size.

Anyone recommend an thin wall mount ideally with a little amount of tilt?

Thanks

hi all,

i received my st 50 today and have been playing with it for the last 5 hours. i have to say i am really impressed so far with the picture quality.

the image is crisp and clean with excellent black levels and i am Surprised at how good the motion is for all sources. so far i have not noticed any problem with 50hz material and this is with ifc turned off, this is another good surprise as i had seen the "50hz bug" on last years models in shops.

i have flicked through some blu ray's with letter boxed bars and the bars were up for about 30 mins and played a game of battlefield 3 which lasted about the same time with the orbiter off and have not seen any image retention.

there are no brightness pops in white scenes which was the problem i had with last years samsung plasmas. it just reproduces a rich, dynamic and stable image and beats my pioneer 4280xd in most areas.

i am really pleased with the set and would at this point recommend this set to anyone thinking of buying it.

off now to play some more

Sounds awesome! Please take some pics? So you have 50 inch version? Banding/dirty screen effect/uniformity and image retention are the only things im worried with panny.

sorry cant take pictures not got a camera. yes i have the 50inch. now i have no issues with banding/dirty screen effect or uniformity that i know of but i have not had chance to test this on material that shows it like football.

but when i have run the white scrolling bar the panel looks uniform when viewing at eye level but if i stand over it or look at the screen from below i see sort of horizontal line's. would be interesting if others have noticed this.

i don't think it is an issue and anyone reading this don't freak out as viewing at eye level the screen looks very uniform to me with the scrolling bar. as for ir, i mention this in my last post but am not going to go over board just yet testing it but i am optimistic ir wont be an issue.

I was out yesterday and saw the UT50 and from what I can see and the reviews from the states it would seem as good as the St50 but £300 cheaper. Has anybody seen them side to side yet in the UK??

just a quick update on my set. unfortunately it seems that my set has 3 vertical bands 1 on the left side of the screen and 2 on the right. noticed this when watching football and also the software update screen reveals them not sure if to go for an exchange or not.

cheers chaps, i have not seen any green blobs on mine. the on only issue is these bands even though i have only seen them on football and the grey software update screen. but it was quite distracting.

i am thinking of just going for a replacement as its a great tv.

Just thought i'd chime in and say i've had a 55ST50 for a week now and think its great! i purchased it for £1600 from a Panasonic store including 5 years warranty.

I originally bought a Samsung LED EU55D7000 and then returned it for poor screen uniformity and other backlight problems and got a replacement D8000 but this had the same problem at which point i gave up on large screen LED. The 55ST50 is used mainly for gaming (xbox360) but also TV via Windows Media Centre. not tried 3D yet as i dont have any glasses yet.

I'd be interested to hear what settings everyone else is using.

glad your enjoying your set.

i have been using true cinema picture setting for everything in conjunction with settings posted here 2012 Panasonic Plasma HDTVs

but left white balance at default and it looks pretty decent on my set even though it will be going back soon.

I have had my 42 ST50 for a week now. I have only had LCD TV's before so cannot make any comparrison against another plasma. I have not tried 3D or gaming yet as it is normally only used for SKY and XBMC.

Pros
In a dark room the Blacks are amazingly black, yet there is still plenty of detail in the shadows. Tron was made for this TV :D
colours are uniform across the screen and no yellow or green blobs
motion is smooth I have not seen any issues with motion tracking.
The only banding I have seen is on snooker, which I do not watch normally so no problem there. Football is perfect though.
I have not seen any brightness pops that were present on the 2011 sets.

Cons
Black levels are not as good as my old LCD in a bright room as the seen is not naturally black. I guess thats normal for a plasma screen.

Bright white screens have a 50hz flicker much like you get with an old CRT Im not sure if that is correct? I have looked at other older panasonic sets in stores and can see it but it doesnt look as bad as mine. Does anyone else notice this?

new 55ST50

I've just bought one of these two days ago. Vertical banding on the right hand side of the screen, an inverted 'L' shaped green blob in the top left 25%, and seriously floating blacks.

Returning for another, but who knows? The next one may be even worse.

Hmmm was seriously considering this instead of a new Samsung, but will wait for more user feedback me thinks.

Hope you manage to get it sorted. Speaking from experience on my current TV, having to keep returning them and getting one back just as bad (if not worse) is not not a pleasant experience

Will be going for this but not until the price drops a few hundred - if that doesn't happen before the Olympics and Euro 2012 I will just keep a hold of my G20 and upgrade later in the year ... don't tend to watch a lot of TV during the summer anyway and the G20 is still brilliant for HD movies.

May just invest in a new leather recliner for the living room but swithering whether to get it calibrated or not.

I have bougt a 50st50 last week.

The picture is excellent. However, the uniformity of the sreen is not so good.

I can see faint yellow patches when displaying white screens. Browsing the internet via ps3 makes this visible.

When watching soccer i notice 4 or 5 vertical lines on the right side of the screen.
These lines (now yellowish) can also be seen when a blue or greyish sky is on the screen.

Are there more owners that have this issues with their set?

Will these lines fade in the near future? Only about 40 hours on my set now.

If you don't look for it you won't see these lines, but it is a bit dissapointing after the trouble i had with my previous tv. (g30, green blobs)

I have my st50 for a couple of days now and it is a big improvement over my 5year old lcd. The screen uniformity is excellent, the blacks rock as well as the contrast. No issues at all. I highly recommend the st50. Even the sound is decent for tv viewing.

Hi,

I have bought 50ST50E last friday. I'm wondering what picture mode do you use for TV broadcasting and what settings (brightness, contrast, etc.)

Thanks
