I have also gone back to 1024 from 1015 and imho its the best one, zero brightness pops and have got my natural plasma picture back. I think i was getting obsessed with brightness and that "In your face" look but it was getting like an lcd and the brightness pops were grating on me.

Couldn't be happier with 1024

Ok, i took the plunge and went from 1021 to 1024 .. my findings :

1: Firstly the only real negative it DOES completely change / delete all your settings (so make a note of them first)

2: Picture is more vivid/contrasty (kinda more LED like , but in a good way.)

3: Black levels are noticeably better.

4: It runs much cooler (mine used to be like a radiator)

altogether these make my D8k pretty stunning, the only thing is this new pic does take a bit of getting used to as its not as warm/soft looking as it was ... oh and i turned the colour down a tad as it was a bit much for my taste ..

Sorry I actually meant brightness cap ..... i.e. the plasma isnt very bright.

The brightness pops I havent seen much myself but its basically changes in the brightness that automatically come about in certain scenes to the point they are noticable.

normal is right, and 57 sounds about right, but for low it should need to be near 0 not 100 as the higher the lower the black level so 0 being the darkest and 100 being lightest.

On if you want to remove the 2:3 pulldown judder the tv will introduce on 24p material. Off if you care more for the black level (the black level gets a little worse with it on).

Those settings sound a bit more like it, though reducing the colour control can throw out the gamut....sorry no its the CMS that's effected, basically it can throw the colours out of whack.

Hey Scoobs,
I have some weird anomallys with mine regarding Gamma 2.2 V's Ref Brightness .

It does seem that last years sets including mine have trouble CMS with not enough Red in Green and the same for magenta,

Heres the best i could do with mine >

I also took the plunge and updated from 1021 to 1024. Can't say I notice the very big differences yet, and I suspect the reported black levels are more placebo than anything else.

I will give it a closer look when the sun sets today and see if something really changed. Brightness fluctuations still appear to be there, but they were not very bad with 1021 either. They might have reduced, but I will have to find some offending material to find out.

When you spend a bit more time with firmware 1024, You will realise it's the best firmware so far.

My D455 is still blacker than the D8005, so I am pretty certain black levels are the same. Tested some material that I knew brightness popping showed up, and it's still there. So, so far I can't seem to find any big differences. Sorry (But it didn't make anything noticeably worse either)

Norway, the D455 is 43" and is the entry level (cheapest plasma) from Samsung (it's the exact same as D450). The D8005 is 51".

The black levels of the D450-plasma is quite amazing, really. I have no clue why an entry level plasma is that black But I know it's been mentioned in the forums earlier too. Only drawback with the D450 is that it's 1024x768, but at 43" that doesn't matter all that much.

Are you using it in movie mode? , because thats where the difference is most ..
It most definitely isnt placebo the difference is quite profound on my set ..

They might have somehow improved contrast ratio which will fool your eyes to believe it's blacker, but really.. it's still just as gray compared to my D455 as before the update. A proper contrast ratio is very important for black level perception, which is also why a lot of people thinks blacks look better in dynamic mode. Black looks blacker because everything else is lighter. Eyes are easily fooled
