Imagine paying close to 4 grand for a TV and it looks like Slimer from the ghost busters ran into it. I hope they have it fixed in their 2012 models.

Prices are for imminent models. The 50GT50 should arrive later in the year.

Wow the price doesn't seem that bad for the gt50 hopefully the independent stores will have enough supply.

I understand where your coming from i think that panasonic should have at least kept the 46" in there lineup, not everyone has space to accommodate a 50" some people like to have as large a tv in a small space.

But i think that sometimes it can look a little silly when you have a small room with a tv which looks to big for it imo, or a odd shaped room which would be hard to house a 50" tv. I don't really want a 50" myself and would prefer a 46" like you but i will have to see them in the flesh to see how much the slimmer the bezel is then take it from there.

I will be ordering the 55VT50 to replace my V10 which has been a good set but want to see a decent improvement which the new set should give me.
Does anyone have any info on promotions, eg. 3D blu-ray player or anything or recommend a good blu-ray player as I don't have a 3D one.
I got quote £2199 for the 55" which is a pretty good price with the 5 year Panasonic guarantee.
There will be shortage of these sets as there always seems to be at launch so I have my name down. :-)

If i remember from 3 years ago, u have been a great fan of Philips LCD, u seem to have had a change of heart.

Anyways, the only thing that can save me as u rightly said is the thickness of the bezel, otherwise i am damned.

Panasonic have confirmed that there will be no free 5 year manufacturer's guarantee on the new models at launch. This may be re-introduced later in the year when sales start to slow. Likewise, at launch, Panasonic will not be running any package promotions.

So is there a release date for these screens yet? I read the show report but maybe I missed it. Will these mean older models dropping in price or just disappearing out of the channel altogether? And will they push down prices of other competing TVs *cough*braviahx932s*cough*?

I'm still a philips man but i have had a few panasonic plasmas in my time too, i like to have a change from time to time and i'm liking the look of these new plasmas .

But if there not giving any 5yr guarantees or promotions then i don't know if i will be buying one i still have sony and in fact philips in the running to lol.

Historically the Panasonic 5yr guarantee has not been an ongoing 'promotion'. By not running it initially for the new model range they are merely bringing themselves into line with the other big manufacturers who do not offer 5yr guarantees. Sony are considering doing the same.

Wasn't the RRP of the 55VT30 £2999 at launch?

That's quite a lot they have shaved off the price.

The retail is looking at £2399, they seem to have lowered prices to compete and probably gain a bit more interest sue to some of the issues they have had in last years models. There are a lot of good sets around now and Panasonic isn't the obvious choice for the best overall set.

They aren't doing themselves any favours at all after the green blob debacle. Not to mention the vertical banding.

The green blobs took quite some time to show up on some peoples sets. There is no way on earth those same customers would risk buying a new Panasonic that only has a twelve month warranty. I had pretty much decided I was going to give them a second chance. But that leaves buying from John Lewis who could easily ramp the price up if they are one of the few offering a five year warranty.
