I was wondering if any owners could give me any advice on a few issues I have been experiencing, or at the least, tell me it is a common problem found by others. I'm hoping changing a quick setting will solve the issues, but have not been able to as yet find a solution.

I bought this set from JL in December and from day 1 i have been experiencing a few audio issues, which I did not experience on my previous samsung LCD, same setup (all inputs connect to onkyo receiver, then hdmi into tv). I was willing to overlook the problem as I was happy with everything else and did not want to return it, and being disabled, I do not want the hassle of returning multple sets until i find the best one.

When watching any content on my tv, at different points the sound will cut out for a second or two, while the video continues. It seems to be completely random when it'll happen, sometimes i can watch a few hours without a hitch, other times it will happen a few times within 1 film. This has been happening since the begining but now it seems to be happening more often, or maybe I just notice it more because it's really starting to get on my nerves . It can be very frustrating when it happens watching a particulary emotional scene, or an important dialogue scene at the climax of a film, to have to break the flow of a film and have to hit rewind to find out what was missed. I should add that all content is watched via an ex hdd attatched through usb.

I have noticed that it seems to be more frequent when playing a game in 3D or watching a BD on the ps3, coupled with the picture disappearing for a few seconds before returning. It seems as though the tv is having a problem with detecting resolution of media playback? I also had it happen on 1 particular BD where the tv set turned itself off for a few seconds, before blinking back on. This concerned me because it happened 3 times in 1 film, but fortunately that was the first and last time it happened. I've turned things off and on but Is there any specific setting i need to change on my ps3?

I did think that due to the set being A 3DTV maybe I needed to buy a 1.4 HDMI lead, as my amp supports it but the leads i currently use are all basic ones. I had a friend over at the weekend and we watched a film and thr audio cut out happened a few times. it wasn't until my visibly annoyed friend pointed out that it wasn't normal and i should really try to get it fixed, that i realised it's now become a real sticking point.

Also, (and I think I might just be nitpicking now) does anyone else have to rewind a bit after they have had their media on pause, due to there being a few second audio delay until it kicks back in, after you unpause it?

what onkyo amp, sometimes you get a delay in audio fromsome films its where the layer change on the disc. but shouldnt happen lotsonce a film somtimes maybe.
also your 2nd post this is normal as the amp has to select the right decoder for the job.

HT-R380

This audio issue happens when i watch media from my ex hdd, so it is not only disc based media it happens with. I have a number of different ex hdd as this is the main method i view media, and it happens regardless of which one i use

Yeah, PS3/360/Virgin HD into onkyo via HDMI, then HDMI connected to the TV. I just assumed it was the new TV as I'd never had a problem on my previous tv (Sammy 32" LCD). I never thought it might be an onkyo issue

Hi

I am looking to buy a Samsung D6900 but I have a few questions. I currently have a 37" LCD LG which is alright.

1) It'll be my first Plasma TV. I have read that the burn-in issues aren't really an problem any more. Is this correct? I'm just worried when watching something like BBC HD having the logo in the corner for a significant amount of time (hours rather than days).
EDIT: After reading more, it seems the general consensus is that I shouldn't worry about it.

2) The PC will also be the display for my HTPC. Is there anything I need to be aware of here?

3) Worried about electric usage increase as I am coming from an LCD to the plasma. Should I be?

4) The USB recording facility. If I have a Western Digital which has a separate plug, will it automatically turn on when it needs to record? Or should I look for a 16GB pen drive just to put in the back?

5) What's the best firmware to have? I have heard the latest one caused some issues with flickering on HD channels (BBC HD?), although that was many months ago now.

6) I will miss a physical "off" switch like on my LG. Just to confirm, on the D6900 there is either "standby" or "off at the plug", no "off" button on the TV itself. If so, is there a red light to show the TV is on standby?

I've read the review and skimmed through posts in the topic on here which has got me quite excited.

Thanks

Hi, i've had my set since December having previously had an LG 550t LED which suffered from banding, been really happy with the Sammy.
1) Wouldn't worry about it, I turned my brightness/cell light down a bit for the initial few weeks, but then upped it again, never had any problems. That's for someone who has lots of logos like Cbeebies/BBC HD/Sky etc
2) can't answer, 3) Depending on usage, people usually advise it's £20/30 or so more a year which is tiny really and especially when you consider the difference in price between LED and plasma.
4) can't answer as not used. 5) I'm on 1016 which is a good one i believe so not come off that, just depends when your tv build month
6)Yep no off button, i'm the same would prefer a physical off button, but there is a red light so show on standby.

Think you'll be happy with your choice it was my 1st plasma.

Its the contrast you need to have low for the first 100-200 hours, not brightness.

OP if worried about IR dont be its normal to have some, theres a scrolling bar that will remove most if not all given time. Burn isnt an issue. Ive been playing MW3 for hours with no bad IR, if I look for it Im sure Ill see some but as sure it will go.
There is a PC mode for the set too.
Fantastic set, very happy, only complaints are the build quality of the set and how slow it is, but then for the money theyre fantastic sets, better IMO than the Panasonics in many areas.

as said ir is nothing to worry about, i have only had my plasma just over a month and for the first 200 hours keept the contrast down abit (70) and made sure the dynamic contrast is off, and to be honest i was worried for the first 100 hours about logogs and black bars, but then i thought i would just use as normal and which i have done watched films with black lines and lots of (infact kids channels for like 5 hours a time) played ps3 the other day for 5 hoursand i can honestly say i have not had 1 bit of ir at all, after 300 hours i uped the contrast to 80, and im very happy with the tv picture is impressive as and i come from a 1080p lcd to which is still a cracking tv which when come out and reviewed had black levels the same as the refrence plasma, but blacks are even better on my plasma,

nasty lol

Black levels great, very impressive, kuro like in depth.......shame about the lack of brightness, tried to up the contrast but set started to make crackling noises so thought it wise to leave it were it was....... colour repro is fine if you watch black and white films.... HD is 'visible' on the screen and uniformity seems fine appart from areas that appear to be in the form of finger prints. he hee.

No DSE other than finger prints? Got a 4" band on my set. Though it is very faint.

Man you have no luck! I'm holding off getting excited about the new Panasonics I remember this time last year far too well. See if you can find yourself a wee D6900, very happy with mine, may not be the top dog, the big cahoonah but it does the job and does it very well. I've given up for now, this set is fantastic for my needs, amazing value with no issues that bug me anything like the Panasonics.

Man this threads dead, anybody still got thier set? lol

Well, I had a move around today and due to selling my house I've packed the 5.1 for more room and moved the set to the corner. Now sitting about 5-6ft away a little close but great for the 3D.

Allso the black levels now appear the same as my GT30 was, with back lighting black is now black not dark grey, this pics a bit out with colour but looks darn close black level wise.

I was only thinking about you the other day Scoob and wondering where you had got too lol ,

Seems like Pana pre sales hysteria has hit the Plasma forums . Must admit they sound great this year but the mention of 'DFC' in every reveiw so far is a no no for me. I would have been looking at a 65ST50 but the above plus the fact there seems to be banding/uniformity issues in the ST50 thread has dead ended that. lol.

PS, nice pics and having the correct wall colour behind the set is great !

Cheers.

Had a lot on, got to decorate the whole house to sell, whilst still looking for work, caring for the mrs, supporting my sis and playing MW3( the last ones my reward to my self lol).

Will try and get on here more, not just to mod but sanity check the place, yes the new Panasonics sound wonderful as did the 2010 and 2011 sets, people have short memories though. Im not knocking them, just for the money they seem to have too many flaws for my liking. I dont expect perfection but dont expect issues cheaper sets dont exhibit and I expect better customer service.

I am exceptionally happy with my D6900, it has quirks but not only is it a bigger set but even at more than I paid its exceptional value. Now I have very good black levels Im very happy, just need to get a meyer as my colours are out. The pictures are more green/blue than how the set actually is as I used my phone camera.

Still very happy with mine.

New panel fitted the other day. Missed it for a few days and pleased to get it working again. Absence and all that......

Still nothing out there a huge must have.

Hi, I am still here, for what it is worth. Rigged up my new HT-E5500 5.1 system the other day so now I have got the full sound experience as well. All I need is some stands for the rear speakers and I'm fully done.

Good to see things are still running smoothly with your D6900 mate first time ive posted in ages (mainly becuase i have nothing to complain about) and i have also developed an unhealthy addiction to GT5 3d is awesome on that game. Might buy a multimeter and do my voltages soon, been putting it off for ages. Just wondering where you put the red and black sensor thingies? (excuse my technical jargon)

Hey, the red goes on the +V (leg of the pot) and the black goes to earth (chassis) - don't put them both on the pot. If you really are not sure then you probably shouldn't bother. It's not that difficult to melt a multimeter :-)

Theres a test pad on the board you dont touch anywhere near the pot.

Capojay if confident go for it, dont rush it though, if not sure of something check before you act, I sound consenting but I know full whell how tempting it is to just go in and tinker.

Very happy with my sets black level now. OH and GT5 in 3D is fantastic.
