100% IRE brightness

Hi, can anyone confirm their brightness on a windowed 100% white pattern.

I am on f/w 1019 and get about 18fl with backlight at 15 and contrast at 95.

Thanks.

To be honest I tried different settings and in the last two weeks I tried
Dynamic Picture with the cell at 18.
The IR is a channel logo in the right bottom of the tv and doesn't look like disappearing...I was watching the last couple nights this station for 2-3 hours and one evening I said to check if there is any trace of IR, using the scrolling from the menu.
From the moment I saw the IR, I lowered the settings ( now I am on Standard with the cell at 16, contrast at 88, brightness 54, warm 2 ). I have two questions:
1) Do I have IR (or Burn In) and it will disappear ?
2) Can I watch again on Dynamic only for 3D ( because of the .1019 )

I have to mention that I didn't watch that station again and I tried with full hd images (no logos at all ) so far but it's still there !!!
You have IR, I'm almost positive it will disappear over time and will not be burn't in. The scrolling grey bars or tv without a logo can help remove it it just takes time from what i understand.

Did you break the TV in for the first 200 hrs? This can help reduce the possibility of IR. I would stay away from dynamic purely because I find it unwatchable, perhaps you need the brightness fix for 1019 and then use standard and movie settings

OK got my beast

First thoughts.

1. the sets huge and my room is so small

2. How the hell do you get this thing on the stand.

3. I so need more room, lying the set face down on the box to get the stand on was a joke, the box is almost as big as the available floor space.

4. it wobbles a bit, not to sure I'm happy with a 51" plasma being held on the stand by 4 1" screws!

5......

6. This is going to get some getting used to, the remote is great, nice and easy to use. Menu navigation is fantastic, but I need a Samsung to Panasonic translation manual(only had Panasonic plasma before).

7. The look of the set. Well you know what, I like it, didn't think I would, sure the things not as stable or well built as the GT30 I had, but this was literally half the price and its good, nice and slim, mrs likes the clear edging to it(big plus lol), I'd prefer the bezel to be black but its ok.

8. PQ....hmm its certainly brighter than the GT30 which is good, though needs some playing with. Black level, hmmm...can live with it, its quite a bit far off the GT30 but in the context of the overall picture I think it'll be fine(I knew I'd need to sacrifice the black level and so far I'm happy). Not looked at any blurays yet, just some SD and HD telly. Nice amount of pop to the picture though colours aren't quite right.

9. concerns and confusion.
Firs off in movie mode contrast is on 95 and cell light 15. Contrast at 95 sounds rather high to run the set in, this ok? Black tone? leaving off, is this the right thing to do? I noticed the screen keeps flicking to a blank black screen then back to what I'm watching had a look in the settings and found colour space was on auto, turned to native and all is fine, whats that all about? just noticed some BBC HD preview still doing it.

10. Firmware is at 001007, stick or update?.
Sorry I know I should read the thread and will, just don't have the time at the mo.

So all in all quite happy so far, then I did only pay 600 and I think its a new set going by how everything was sealed up. There is some buzzing but as long as it doesn't get worse I'll live with it. Black levels not great but will do. Only real concern is this on off with the picture, it goes blang a good second or so before going back to what was being displayed, is there a setting I need to change? Oh and whats black tone? just processing that needs to stay off?
Oh and I have my PS3 in HDMI1 how do I get the 16ms of lag? activate game mode?

Cant wait to tryout some 3D and do some gaming.

Firmware 1015 fixes the blinking on BBCHD.

Hey Scooby, I would use Cell 15 / Contrast around 85 and brightness around the 57 mark for the 51", Great on my dads set but OOTB Movie settings are to bright imo.

PS, using Auto or Custom colour space is fine, if you choose 'native' greens will be near luminous lol !

Just put Davids settings in for now wasnt going to but hey, not got the time to fiddle too much at the mo. His settings seem to push green a little on my set.
Using movie I have contrast at 88 and brightness at 55. Not sure about cinema smooth, getting jusser with the spears and Munsil with both on and off. Think I may have months of fidlin ahead

Oh an balls, think I left my USB stick in the GT30, cant find it anywhere.

I'mgoing to update to the latest firmware, think this must be an old set, I'm on 001007.....says no update online grr need me bloomin stick!

I have left my set on dynamic mode with cell light at 10, everything else on 50 since I bought it. Is it safe to ramp it up to 15 now?

Did you get yours from warehouse deals? I got mine from there and it was on FW 001000. I updated it to 1019. And I don't see what everyone is complaining about. The black levels are fine to me.

Yep, black levels ok but I've come from a GT30 where black is black, well as close to black as you can get.

I know, but any other mode and I find it very hard to see. Since I mainly use my tv for gaming, I needed a brighter screen to better see all the campers hiding in dark corners.

lol

Are you using HDMI1 for the 16ms lag? thought I read lag was 32 otherwise.

To all, wow 4HD is looking very good, better than it did on my GT.

Yeah, I got my xbox connected to HDMI 1 and I got game mode on too.
Game mode was quite stupidly hidden in an obscure location.

Be sure to change to [DVI/PC MODE] as this will reduce lag to 16ms. You can do this from the source menu by pressing the [Tools] button and selecting DVI - which is only available in HDMI 1

Unfortunately, when I do this I lose audio output from the optical out. And I use optical to connect to my amp. An without my surround sound, gaming is pretty much useless as I use it for in game surround sound.

Have read this a few times on this forum, but on the 59er, switching to PC mode to reduce lag makes the PQ look awful, the Wii in 1080p look significantly better. WOuld be interested to know what the PQ is like on the 51 having switched to PC.

You need to name hdmi/dvi1 to pc to get low lag. I use it for the Xbox 360 with the Xbox set to rgb and expanded

Done the above with my PS3 set to full RGB and all looks great. Reduced gamma by 2, put brightness to 32, left contrast at 95 and dropped cell to 11 to help with IR. This is on standard picture mode.

Have you got your HDMI black level set to low? It makes a huge difference.

Contrast is fine. Maybe lower it to 89 or so to avoid discolouration. This is just a white level control, not a drive control (that would be Cell Light, so lower that if you're afraid of image retention).

Black tone off. It just clips blacks.

Not sure what you mean re blank black screen part?

Its just an issue with earlier F/W's on the Sammy David where BBC HD flip flops from 1080i to 1080p and you get a black screen for an instant, I believe f/W 1012 onwards cured it .

Ah cool not had a Samsung before, have the cell light on 11 for gaming, was guessing the cell was driving but wasnt sure, thanks for clarifying.

Cant wait to get playing with a meter on this set seems quite different to the Panasonics.
Im using your settings at the moment and its quite amazing how its improved skin tones especially. On my set though there does seem to be a bit too much green? What would be bedt to change? it seems to be in the mid range somewhere, only going by eye so I may just be used to having too much red in my last set. Imust say, this set has impressed, seems to be less dithering tgan my GT and the picture seems to be cleaner, maybe the effect of the green tinge on my last set. Im also seeing more detail, may just be the bigger screen size though.

You would be best trying to get 1016 - you still get a great picture with 1019 but it does reduce light output, although you can tweak some settings in the service menu to restore it.
