Just been checking them out they get plenty of good reviews. Also topcashback has them listed so you could get some pennies back though that too.

Ah if you add the 5-year warranty and 2 pairs of 3D glasses the difference in price is only £50. Not worth the hassle.

Just been checking out the reviews for the 51d8000 and although generally excellent it seems that the 64" model gets slightly better reviewed. Can people who have come from the 50GT30 to the 51d8000 possibly reassure me that I am making the right move. Insanity has been really helpful and given me great advice but I am worried that the 51" might not be as good as the 64".

I understand that the black levels are much better on the 64" versions as is the norm with Samsung

Well after much deliberation I have taken the plunge and ordered my 51d8000. The gt30 gets collected tomorrow so it's onwards and upwards. Thanks to everyone who helped me make my decision.

Welcome to world of good flat tv's, be glad you were able to get rid of the pana, you wont be sorry.
And if you need to, you can adjust the pots in the back of the TV to get better blacks, but I dont think its needed.

To be honest im too much of a chicken to try that. Is the ADC change worth doing though? Again would probably be a bit reluctant to enter the service menu unless the benefit was great.

Thinking about doing that myself though the black level seems to be improving a bit now, it was quite light to start with. When loading ME3 on the PS3 the screen goes very light then very dark and then slightly lighter when the games loaded. When it goes really dark its close to the black level of my GT30.

Jacksdad999 welcome to the world of sane TV ownership, these Samsungs may not be as good in some areas but its so nice not to have to worry about stuff.

After doing the 1019 update I did that, its quite easy as long as you follow the instructions and do nothing else, only do it if and when your sure though.
I'm tempted to do the pots thing as my set was cheaper and hasn't got a warranty to void. I'd think twice after spending a k on a new D8000, wait to hear from people that have done it, it can have side affects with motion from what I've read as it changes the way the phosphors are driven.

Well I did it and I thought is was well worth the effort BUT.......i waited till mine had over 200 hours on it before I did it.
This because the picture pop wil improve tremendously during break in especially after 100 hours, at least for mine thats the way it worked.

Cheers mate. Got the set for £975 including top cashback deal. Don't need glasses as I already have two pairs so overall it works out as a straight swap for the 46gt30. Bigger screen, same cost, less issues. Overall pleased with the deal.

Fantastic stuff, hope you enjoy. Is it OK with your room? I'd have gone D8000 myself but hate the look of it and at 600 the D6900 gave me some much needed cash. The 2012 sets are taking forever Think you did the right thing as these sets are well tested now so you can just sit back and enjoy the wonder of 51 inches of pure pleasure......ok that last bit sounds wrong

Yeah wrong but it's an indication of how wrapped up in the world of tv buying that on first reading your post I didnt even notice the connotation! Think the set should be fine in the room and the mrs is happy enough. Going to get a slim wall bracket and get it tight to the wall.

First pic of a very sunny day.
Please ignore the curtains, they will be changing to nice choc ones soon

Same day from my seating position

An old evening pic

And finally a arty shot, I think this flower is from either a Pio demo or a Toshiba one I played on my D8000. Its one or the other

They all look brilliant and the filter seems to be doing its job, especially in the first one. Thanks for doing that mate. The Tv looks fantastic and I really like the silver bezel.

Planing on mounting mine on the wall in the next few weeks but i would like to run the cables behind the wall (plasterboard). Is it possible to detach the power cord from the TV or do you have to cut the plug off? My old tv had a kettle plug style but the 51D8000 doesnt!

Thanks in advance

It is definitely hard wired and also the power cord is pretty short tbh so what I done was fit a power socket next to the wall bracket and beside the box for the HDMI cables running through the wall, this was the best solution and saves hassle when changing TV's and stuff as all the infrastructure is there...

Here are a few images from my home build thread:

You can check the rest of the details if you want on the link in my signature, hope this helps, thanks

Hey Scooby, just a quick question mate I remember you from the gt30 thread and I think you swapped your gt30 for a sammy plasma? If so which one did you swap for and what was better/worse in your opinion? Any info would be appreciated

Hey, D6900 and yes very happy. Cons are lighter black level, build quality (not that the Samsungs all that bad), slow with chanel and input change, menus arent as good though theres more options.
Pros: Bigger set, brighter, SD has next to now false contouring, sure I can see more detail though maybe the bigger brighter screen, more calibration options, lower gaming lag, less banding so far with both SD and HD, n real motion issues noted yet. Oh thats a long list lol To be fare I spent more critical time with the Panasonic, but still for a set that cost me half the money(got it for 600) Im very happy.
