If you have your brightness set higher than 49/50 you never will see it.

Ahh, that'll be why.

i use between 53-58 in movie mode normally, although in standard mode it would be nice to get below 50! Lol, purely as i have to use gamma -1 to get lower/deeper blacks.

Guys - a few posts back I mentioned that I picked up the 3100 / Megamind pack from eBay for £44 delivered. Just an update then to tell you that it's all good - the real deal.

I have a question about the thime shift function in the tv. Does it work on a hdmi port too or does it only work on the internal tuner?

And when you time shift, does the screensaver come on after x minutes?

The reason i ask this is that my wife pauses our settop box a lot and sometimes for more than a hour. So i would like the tv to do the timeshifting in combination with the screensaver.

Hi, the answer to the first question is no, you can only record from the internal tuner because of DRM, however you can watch from any other input whilst recording.
I don't know the answer to the second one, only that I hope so. Is there a 'blank' button on the remote?

My TV arrives this Wednesday so i don't know about the button. The blank button activates the screensaver?

That site looks really dodgy, no reviews or refs online that I can see, and there's a completely different shop at that address

: : Welcome to Hadson : :

I would be very careful about giving them any money.

If theres any Calibrators looking in i was wondering what kind of results you returned from the 3D side of things ?.

I have my own basic settings on my D6900 which are fantastic for All the Animated 3D titles i have but when it comes to 'Real' 3D films i'm struggling.

I had setup one BD source by eye but last night i used the AVSHD Callie Disc in 3D conversion mode wearing the glasses, I was surprised especially with Colour/Tint how far out it was to correct the color bars using the blue screen filter. I was pretty excited to see the results so popped in Final destination 5 to check the results and its pretty dissapointing . flat with washy looking colours etc.

Using the Calibration discs in eaxcatly the same way for 2D my overall picture is Superb.

If you have any pointers for setting up for 'Real 3D i'm all ears .
Thanks.

Do the calibration settings stay in 3D mode only, or are you throwing out 2D setting when you calibrate this?

I'm not sure if it's a problem with 1019 or the tv in general but I do find that the 2d pic appears washed out grey and also too dark in dark scenes (if that makes sense).

Motion blur is apparent in all modes. It bugs me a little but I accept as part of the trade off of having a large screen.

Overall I'm happy with the TV. PS3 looks stunning and HD is great apart from the effects mentioned above. No real issues with 3d.

I've tried various settings but cant make the pic any more vibrant, esp in dark scenes.

Yup, exactly the kind of dodgy outfit I thought they were (I was on the iPad earlier so only did a cursory search).

Don't hold your breath about getting a PM

Hi there,

Maybe try using dynamic contrast as ive found it helps, however only so much...

I think it depends on 2 things really, what expectations you have out of the picture and what you are comparing it too.

I have tried to make my plasma pop more lately as it struggles to get near the vibrancy i desire.
In truth i think im trying to strip the picture up to an led tv, which isnt working particularly well.

Trying to get my plasma to pop with flat monotone blacks instead of deep blacks is very difficult!
Sure! plasma is better with motion, shadow detail and skintones (natural) but i think alot of the problem is we see leds/lcds everyday in our life displaying images/content that are made to pop! To catch our eyes weather it shop windows, in stores or just basic advertising...this makes sense but when i get home i cant help feel my tv looks alittle unvibrant after all that. People may not agree but thats just my 2 cents...

Hi, if JL did price match that would be great as I'd be going for the 51" at £713.00...

Using a test disc forcing 3D conversion then those settings will be transfered to 3D BD and stay put so no need to copy them over.

After some info today its looking like a 3D calibration on these sets is very difficult even for a Pro Calibrator so that would be the reason i'm struggling 'By eye' . However my 3D animated Standard Mode settings are nigh on perfect for the job.

Just got PM confirmation from JL matching Jumbo Direct at £1199! Woohoo! Since I live in Warwickshire (miles outside the JD delivery area), I'm very happy with that

Going to order it tonight, also submitted a PM for that Bralx site, fingers crossed!

Well I’ve just joined the Samsung 6900 owners club Impatiens got the better of me, got board of waiting for a PM (stupid I know) from JL. So got it from Costco OK not the cheapest price but their 5yr guarantee and their excellent 3 month take back no questions asked policy(so if the price drops dramatically in the next three month I could just take it back and buy the cheaper one – if I could get over the guilt that is! Or if for some reason I’m not happy with it)

And stupidly I ignored all advice and the research I’d done and brought it home horizontal in the back of my estate car! - don’t know what people thought as I laid that massive box on a single bed memory foam mattress!!

So first impressions:

It survived the journey intact
I’m one of the lucky ones NO Buzzing In fact (sorry to pi** anyone off) but both the V+ box or the Tivo box are louder than the 6900. If it helps anyone the manufacturing date is October 2011, and it came with two sets of glasses.

As for PQ well initial impression excellent (tho I haven’t seen it in daylight yet) and at the moment I’m more than happy with the black levels, so well see what happens when I get the calibration disk out!

One funny thing as me and my son were trolleying it out of the store/car park people were literally stopping and staring at the size of the thing and kids were asking to their parents “wow how big is that daddy” etc - my young son was well impressed!

No dout I'll be posting here with lots of questions etc....

Weldone Timbotwo.
Glad you have a quiet one, There are several owners out there with them, March and October builds seem the quietest from reading these threads.

Your lad must be chuffed to bits !
