'frankly appalling'
The old samsung was a lot "fatter" and probably had bigger drivers. I doubt its defective, but I'd like to hear another to compare. It does sound mono. I cant perceive stereo at all.

Jolly best deal is currys and then price match at John Lewis for 5 year no quibble guarantee if you can live with the 46" at £699.
I think £1k is best you will do for 50".

Well, given the depth of the set, I'm fairly impresssed with the sound. It seems more than adequate for general living room listening...

Smile 42GT30 commercial pop-up often - disable?

Hi,

I've searched and not found information about how to disable the pop-up of commercial for my gt30. It seems like in 10 minutes of not touching the remote control, it will pop-up 2 minutes of some commercial of Panasonic, features and options, which disappear as soon as I touch almost any key of remote control.

can anyone help me with this situation? to disable that pop-up?

thank you

I don't have anything like that on my GT30. The only pop-ups I've seen are for Viera Connect and the new channel found notification (when you first turn on the TV), both of which can be disabled in the options menu, IIRC.

I wonder if you're still in shop/store display mode, which might explain this. You may have to perform a factory reset in order to get the option to choose again.

SOLVED!

in SETUP / SYSTEM MENU / DEMO SETTINGS it was enabled the Automatic Demo with 15 minutes interval.
I must have been blind, because I've searched (in my opinion) the whole menus tens of times so far...

Anyway, after your post, I did went again in menu and wanted to see if home/store setting is something that I did not check... and found that demo settings.

Thank you!

I have just over 600 hours on my 50GT30 now. I had problems with the green blob for the first few months but the update improved this quite a bit to the degree where I was reasonably happy with the set. In fact the PQ on the set has been (in most situations) excellent since the update.

However for the past few days the picture quality seems to have gone dramatically downhill. All content showing a bright scene (i.e. lots of sunlight, white walls etc) now seems to make the image look like it was drawn with pastels! I didn't change any of the settings to cause the picture to change. However I have tried altering the picture settings since and nothing seems to help. The picture seems really washed out in bright scenes and in all images it doesn't seem as sharp as it was a few days ago.

Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem?

Servio mate. Free and excellent for almost any device. Works on my gt30 a treat. And 360 and ps3 and bluray player.

How do you FF or RW in the youtube application?

ie: If you're watching a youtube clip and want to fast forward or rewind, what do you press?

I've had my GT30 now for about 3 months and all was working great until a few days ago when the 3d source message keeps appearing when there is no 3d signal being sent to the tv. My son has had it a few times playing MW3 on the PS3 and tonight i had it pop up when starting a blu ray and my blu ray player is not even 3d compatible. My 3d settings were set to auto change which changed but i have since changed it to inform me when a 3d signal is being received and the message keeps popping up. Anyone else had this??

I don't think this is possible which isn't actually that surprising if you think about it, as that option isn't available on the YouTube website either.

On the website, you have to drag the time indicator along the timeline with your mouse - can you connect a mouse to the GT30 like you can a keyboard and if so, could you do the same on the GT30's YouTube app I wonder ?

I doubt it, but it's the only way I can think of - none of the other suitable buttons on the remote allow you to FF or RW.

Is there any way to connect speakers to this TV, and control the volume using the TV remote (i.e. use the TV as the amplifier)? Connecting speakers via the headphone socket doesn't mute the TV speakers, so the volume control on the remote still controls them, not the headphone volume. Headphone volume control seems to be from a sub-menu only, which isn't ideal for my purposes.

How daft! I was watching 1:35hr clip on youtube... How do I move around it?

Why not just allow the color buttons to move backwards/forwards 30second/3 minute? There done! You can navigate around any clip to a reasonable degree!

Or allow you to highlight the position bar and use the arrow keys as above (left/down = RW 30seconds/3minute, up/right = FF 30seconds/3minutes), or even just to adjust it left or right with the left/right arrows?!

I think you may have answered your own question - it isn't possible, AFAIK.

The only way that you can do what you suggest is to get a separate Panasonic AV amp/system which might allow you to retain use of the TV's remote for volume and other functions via the Viera Link function.

If the idea of this is to just have the one remote, then you can buy programmable remotes which you can customise. When in TV mode on my Logitech Harmony remote, for example, I have set the volume buttons to turn my AV amp up and down (rather than the TV's own speakers) as I do 99% of my viewing using the amp.

I don't think this is possible. I presume you are using active (powered) speakers hence no need for amplifier?
If you connect a reasonably new AV amplifier (that supports the HDAVI control protocol over HDMI connections) to HDMI2 then using the Viera Link function the Panasonic TV remote will: switch on and off the AV amp when the TV is turned on, switch the AV amp to the TV input and control the volume of the amplifier instead of the TV speakers.

I have an AV amp and separate speakers attached to my GT30. It is really a much better setup than the frankly poor built-in speakers but obviously takes up additional space and cash.

I reported this "bug" sometime ago, it seems it could be related to brightness/contrast when viewing certain pictures, on mine when I had football on after an hour the TV would switch to 3d mode for no reason.
Both my UT30's did it however the ST30 seems less prone
The only thing you can do is turn auto detect off in the menu, this seemed to fix it for me anyway
I did ask Steve Withers to test it on the ST50 they had, yet to hear back

Thank you for that, that has put my mind at rest, to be honest it has not done it above half a dozen times but i just want to make sure everything is OK.
I have now switched from auto(advanced) to auto detect so just the message pops up rather than the screen changing to 3D along with a full system reset just incase.

Also, I have sent an email to Panasonic, if i get a response then i will let you know the outcome.

Interesting that you say it might be a contrast/brightness issue though as i did not have the fault up until recently and up until recently i was running the tv in THX mode, a couple of weeks ago i changed to professional settings with some settings in the GT30 calibration thread.
maybe coincidence !!! what settings do you run it on when the issue arises ?

Hello just taken delivery of a 46" gt30 and was over the moon until tonight. It appears it has developed a fault. On the screen there is a vertical red line which runs continuously from top to bottom about 10" from the left hand side. Anyone else seen or heard of this problem?

Thanks

Does anyone know how to get into the Service Menu on the GT30? I got a full screen replacement over two weeks ago and have been running in default THX mode since. I was wanted to check how much time I've put into the thing now as I'd like to go back to using different settings.

Seems a few have had this. Think a trip back to the shop or a call to Panasonic in order for that.

Hi all,

Well, I took the plunge last week and bought a 46" GT30 at £699. I had a PV500 37" for 7 years so I was due an upgrade. Was very wary of buying it after reading this thread but at £699 I thought it was a reasonable punt.

Must say, in the 2 days I've had it I have been very, very impressed. HD is stunning, the XBOX 360 images look vibrant and overall I am very happy. The sounds is average compared to the PV500 but was made better by tweaking the sound equaliser little.

Fingers crossed I don't see some of the problems mentioned on the forums here. It really is a fantastic set for the money.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Guys,

New to this site, I have just bought one of the last 46GT30's that JL had and the Tv looks great only one or two things i just want to hear other peoples views on. I have only ran it for about 30 hours so far so its still very very new. I have been reading through pages and pages of posts but thought it might be better to post my own questions to get the answer i am looking for

1. Fan noise, This is about the same level as my PS3 slim and is noticeable. I site about 8ft away from it. Does this quieten down with time?

2.Buzzing, Buzzing on light images and white. Same question for this.

3. Green patch have a slight one of these on the right hand side is this a fix for this yet?
