A pic of the new VT50 - not quite why the link says LG but its definitely a Panasonic (and has been confirmed by the designer on highdefjunkies)

With EU-plasmas will have a huge problem. The new version of Energy Star 5.1 requires that consumption be limited to 50 "screen, a level not higher than 108Wt 50" FullHD display.

So they will be getting even duller over here??!!
That's just great new.

A conspiracy to rid the UK of planet killing plasmas maybe?
Come 2013 we may need to buy grey imports.

Well I'll be. Looks like they have stuck there hand in to offer some seemingly good service. Think I know what I'll be doing tonight. Will try once again to connect to Viera Connect/Cast again tonight and see if I can now connect and take a look see. ( I gather this might be why many were seeing a maintenance error message when they tried to connect over the last few days ?).

If the incumbent TV manufacturers don't get this right Apple will get it right for them...whether that is through something like the existing Apple TV or an all in one Apple panel.

My bet is that haven't and won't get it right and Apple will blow them out of the water at some point.

You had me excited then but all these were released a month or so ago Good that they are expanding the range though. Interested to know what from the 2012 will filter down to the 2011 and whether we'll get stuff like netflix, flixter etc.

I'm liking the look and specs of them (much better than my G20). Couldn't care less about applications on it. If the release a 55"/60" GT50 over here then I might be tempted

I wish they would stop caring about the thinness of the display, I would rather have it slightly thicker in combination with having no fans!

I think they have the design of the VT50 spot on and cannot wait to see one of these displays in the flesh now just need to convince the mrs we really do need a brand new tv to replace our one which is absolutely fine.

Anyone got any good excuses? lol

I suspect that if the design gets thinner, the chances increase that there is no room for a fan

Its thinner

Time to start manafacturing issues with your current TV imo, that way when the new VT comes out in 6 months it wont seem like a blatant case of upgraderitis!

Not that I have done it before or anything

I wish someone from Panasonic could clarify this, but they probably won't as it will prove them wrong with this years green blob excuse!

Ok I have to ask

Demographically speaking taking the point of
1. Panasonic must have known or at the very least now know of these issues
And
2. Why don't retailers not just send em back to Panasonic?

So how many of these tv's are sold ?
How many of them that have this issue if indeed not all have them ?
How many people either don't see them?
And
Of the number sold are bought by people on here who go out of our way to find fault / give tv's a real thorough testing ?
Then the number of tv's sold to tv's sold to people who complain as they want perfect boxes. I would say small ratio?

Know above could be inflammatory but I have to ask it non the less.

For me my box is great ( prob now live to regret saying it. But then again I have a 5 year warranty )

Posted here but should have been on ST30 thread. Copying to it too. Mods if this is ok great if not then please remove if against forum rules. Thanks

i couldn't agree more, if this years models have fans i wont even bother checking the picture quality out because i know i woudn't buy another tv with fans ever again. when last years models came out i walked in the shop checked to see if they had fans, which they did so i never looked at them again. i do hope they had dropped them this year, samsung make very thin plasma's and they have no fans.

+1
The fans seem to have no effect either, the ST30 I have seems to get hotter than my LG that doesn't have any

Don't take it as read wrt these being the same as the UK versions either, the ST models over in the US are all black not the dark grey UK gets and I think the GT models didnt get the silver inner edge
