I wonder what makes it disappear on some sets while it gets worse on others... no sign of pink blobs/patches either?

The HD/BD, when shown from a good source look absolutely stunning on this set, and the 3D movies that i own look terrific - best TV i have ever owned by far

How long did it take for the green blob to disappear?

Hi guys,

I got my set 4 days ago and yep - green blobs.

For those that want to check, the most efficient way is to go to a grey slide and then go to white balance in the menu. Jack up the low and high green levels, and have a look at what happens. The exact shape of the green blob will illuminate so you can see exactly what percentage of your screen is affected. I'm going to return my set on the weekend. Deal breaker.

I should add that I'm extremely disappointed by this as it's my first TV in over 5 years and I was really hoping for something special from Panasonic. I'd read so many good things about this TV and actually had never heard about the green blobs until I "thought" that I noticed a green tinge one night and started searching on google to see whether I was tripping out or if another person had encountered the same thing. I then got the shock of my life when I saw how many people are complaining of exactly the same problem.. Really makes me angry that products like this are being sold even though that manufacturer is well aware of the problem. I guess they're just hoping that people aren't picky enough to notice it.

The TV is really an awesome piece of hardware. PQ in 2D and 3D is superb, games run smooth and look great, colors are rich and real looking, blacks are black and the greys are .. f'ing green. I spoke to the retailer yesterday and he said I have another 10 days to return it if I'm unhappy but then if I return it, what am I going to do? Get another GT30 and roll the dice a second time? Get a different TV altogether? Samsung plasmas seem to have their fair share of problems as well. I then thought that perhaps LED would be the way to go (46D7000) but that also has a truckload of issues according to the info I've read on the forums. As I'm an avid gamer the concept of a set that I don't need to ever worry about burn-in is attractive indeed, but the input lag I've heard about really puts me off.

Sorry for totally hijacking your thread Scoob with my negative experiences but I couldn't help myself.

For those of you with a perfect set, good on you, and I do envy you. Wish I had a problem-free set too.

I'm really happy with my 50VT30 it's an amazing bit of kit. Blu-ray movies look awesome and the 3D experience is excellent. I have one pixel that does not display deep blue but it in no way distracts from my enjoyment and is unnoticeable unless my face is six inches from the screen.

I also really like the "one sheet of glass design" and the overall styling. The green power light is my only slight gripe.

Playing the PS3 is also a pleasure aswell. No discernible input lag either. I have had several long sessions on Bf3 and FIFA 12 with no IR. I only allowed myself to do this after the break in period.

I ran the set in for 500 hours before Gordon from convergent AV came round and worked his calibration magic.

I don't suffer from any of the major issues such as crickets, FB, green blobs or DoDs.

I'm a very happy customer and would recommend the set to anyone.

No worries I was ready on the delete button but read the whole post. Sounds like you were happy otherwise, shame. You could always check next time before taking home. Sadly more and more sets seem to be having issues, of all makes, result of cost cutting and for plasma, energy saving. Needs to be addressed by manufactures, the we need(consumers) to be willing to pay more, rather than demand more for less.

I tried to do the grey menu thing but again not sure where to go when in the menu mode.
I feel it don't make sense to go looking for something if you can't see it in normal viewing, but as said I seem to be getting paranoid, mainly because of £££s spent out, having a bad experience with a 55"LG and making sure if there is a problem I can get it exchanged or refund before the time period runs out for returning it..

I suppose one of my questions is, if one does not have the noticeable green
blob, will it appear some time in the future ?.
I have the answer for you. Stop looking for it and enjoy your viewing. This TV is certainly good for that.

Yes tempting to remove the post but he was happy with the set otherwise. I looked, no green blobs, I now just enjoy my set knowing there was no green blobs.

There are a lot of things can go wrong with a set you dont worry about so why worry about this issue? just kick back and enjoy wonderfull PQ.

From now on green blob chat will be moved to the dedicated green blob of death thread, this issue is taking over far too many threads already, an important issue yes, but for people who dont have it and want to discuss other aspects of the set, it may be getting annoying now.....

So...one sheet of glass?....or the GT30s styling? I think it looks cheap myself, the whone sheet that is.

Right - ENOUGH!!!!! I didn't think i had green spodges on my 50"GT and i was determined not to look for them using the information above using the slides and whacking up the greens. I should have trusted my visual judgement and the fact that i love my TV. But you put a seed of doubt in my brain and the conditions there are perfect for growing oak trees out of tiny acorns.
There were none! Not a glimmer! Now, i am not going to say they do not exist elsewhere but they are not on my set and im not looking for any more problems.
It is a great set - i love it. End of.
This is meant to be a thread for praise of the sets not to moan or create more issues lol. There are 4 pages of whines on the owners thread.

At least that gives some kind of hope finding one without this problem. Not sure if you have answered this before, but what is your serial number's first digits? I am still thinking of whether giving the VT30 another shot since I have now being credited for my previous one.

Quite an early set... I've heard of someone else with issue free set too which has been from about the same range. Also, the display model in a local store is probably also one of the first sets and exhibits no signs of this. Just a pity it has been running for a few months in the store, or I'd have considered actually buying that very set. But thanks While not directly useful information it is interesting to observe.

Update thus far and keeping to the subject..
After taking a LG 55" back which had many viewing issues, which can be found under the LG section , i decided to do a swap on the Panasonic TXP-50GT30B,
I do like this set, all colours seem very natural especially skin tones, blacks are blacks, nice sharp pictures, no motion blur, no crostalk on 3D viewing.easy to use menu, the 5 yr warranty is a bonus.
With only a few hours on the box, i am hoping the fine viewing will continue.
If i have one tiny issue it would be a small amount of screen reflection something i never experienced with my Sony Bravia 50"...Just means i have to get off my butt and close one pair of curtains...

Thus far its a 9 out of 10 for me....

EDIT, also like to mention i purchased mine as a package, 3D Blu-ray player+HDMI lead and coupon to get Star wars, all this at just off the £1300 mark.

Londonbornpaddy - you're one of the lucky ones my friend; good for you bro.

If anything, I'm envious of you guys that have non-green panels as I really do love everything about my TV except for that one particular aspect ..

As for trying it in-store Scoob, unfortunately at the place I got it in Australia (one of the biggest retailers here), their stock is kept in a massive warehouse, not in the store itself. So testing the sets isn't an option which is a major pain in the f'ing bum.

FWIW, my set is a May model and as previously stated, an Australian model too.

The silver inner bezel strip is quite striking when the TV is off and very unobtrusive when on, I like. Surely the single sheet of glass must be a tad more reflective.

I also like the fade to grey at the logo, but the stand is a real dust collector.

Frozen planet looks amazing on this set as does everything else but frozen planet even more so. I only use my scroll bars if I have a bit of IR on screen after I have been gaming about an hour but it quickly goes, worst one was with Batman where I had to wait 5 minutes maybe to disappear and I could only see it really if I went right up to the screen.
I want some heavy gaming sessions over the weekend and next week with Forza, Modern Warefare 3, Skyrim, FIFA 12, Batman, Battlefield 3 and Uncharted 3. I just wanted to check do I have to run the scrolling bar every hour for 10 minutes to be safe from bad IR? I have turned the contrast low for my sky viewing and gaming as I am only around 30 hours into my tv.

I was paranoid about the green blob but now I have tried a few scenarios and not noticed anything I am just going to enjoy my tv. I can't believe people use colour slides to check for green blobs etc. I have ABS brakes on my car but I don't drive around corners at 80 mph to see how good they are
Shame the green blob thread will put people off buying this great tv but then again ROD didn't put people off buying the 360 or iPhone 4 grip of death

I think it would be interesting to see the serial numbers of everyone not seeing the patches on their sets, maybe added as a list in the first post or something. Today alone I've read about three people not having green blobs on their Panasonic, and all three of them has had serial numbers were the first two digits are 12. I'm starting to see a pattern here which would be very interesting to keep looking into.

OK Ill try again as my phone just annihilated my last attempt grr.

This thread is indeed not just to praise these sets but to offer a bit of balance and give those who are liking there set to say so without having to shout above all the talk about issues that already have several threads.

Blue.Rocket no need to apologise, but appreciate what you did.

I like the idea of posting serial numbers of sets that dont have the green gunk whatever, but please post this information in the correct thread

As of this post any conversation about green blobs etc will be moved to the relivant thread. mentioning the issue in a post relating to something else is fine but this thread is not for discussing the issue.

Im trying to be nice old me but this thread will be kept on topic from now on.
Thank you.

I think this very thread is the exact right for that, which is why I requested the happy owners be listed in a list in the beginning of this thread, as it would be collecting relevant data from the ones who does not have any problems in one place. You are obviously free to disagree with me on this, though

A great idea problem with doing this is it invites debate/talk on the subject, so wont do it here. I would highly recommend asking the guys on the green blob thread about this if they are happy I will be happy to gather numbers and list them there. Actualy it would be ideal for the owners thread as it will have more views.
