What are these marks on my plasma screen?

Any plasma experts here who would like to tell me what these marks are?
They are on the INSIDE of the screen. (Just to the right of the words Scotland and Wales)

They look very much like a hand print. What tv you got and is it new?

TV is Hitachi 42Pd7500 four years old. Has been in for repair and returned like this. (Very long story!)

Stupid question - have you actually tried wiping them off?

Ooops! Missed that.

Blinking annoying I'm sure. Either send it back (what a pain) or put up with it (what a pain). Either way, a pain.

There's a lot more to this. Its an ongoing issue with the repair company. I hoped someone might have seen this type of fault before and be able to advise on what it might be to give me more ammunition to fight my case.

I think the technical description is that they have got some crap on the inside of your screen!

If this helps you, in the years that I've been calibrating and reviewing Plasma displays, I've never seen that. It looks like the glass layer has been separated at some point and has got wet?

Yes to me it does look like dirty liquid stains on the glass. The repair company say it is a fault plasma panel that could only be fixed by replacement, but I wondered if it was possible to actually remove the front glass for cleaning, or is it bonded to the panel?

Having now obtained a replacement TV under warranty, my curiousity got the better of me and I dismantled the front screen and have found that the problem is between the front glass and the filter layer, which are bonded together. Looks possibly like a defect in the adhesive.

Apart from this problem, the set is in excellent working order and I'm wondering if I can obtain a replacement front glass / filter? Anyone know where I might obtain one and the likely cost?

One from a scrapped faulty set would do, so I'm keeping an eye on Ebay.

How much????

I contacted the Hitachi authorized supplier and believe it or not they wanted £860 for this part. Thats for a piece of glass with a plastic filter stuck to it! The set only cost around £1700. I would have expected a replacement plasma panel to cost this much, but not the front glass.

Hi, clocked this post and I have the exact same problem with my Panasonic 42". These marks seem to have appeared a few days ago, and I'm assuming its after the wife cleaned it

Is it possible she rubbed the screen too hard and this has somehow caused the panel and the plastic filter to somehow react? We've had it about 9 months but I would guess this wouldn't be covered under the manufacturers warranty...unless there is some reason other than the cleaning that its developed these marks.

I'm interested how the op managed to get a replacement set and still keep the faulty one as well. I've not much experience in such things.

It has got to be the complete panel, could you imagine taking just the front sheet of glass off, it would be carnage.

Unless they can split the front panel from the dielectric layer but i cant see it.

well i went to john lewis's today and while even the technical depart woman said in my guess it would need taking away and i'm guessing they won't be able to replace due to parts either not available due to age or it won't be economical to repair it.
She then said we would have to discuss what happened after that as she can't give us like for like so would have to work out a settlement..............TO PUT TOWARDS !

I spent £1000 on that nearly 5 years ago. If they can't Guarantee it for that thats time they shouldn't give them out.
I was expecting another £1000 to spend on a TV.
Am i wrong to think this ??????
At this moment i can't afford to anything towards a TV
As this is what happened with my condensing dryer which was nearly 2 years old but due to me originally asking for a repair while in warrenty and them never fixing the problem i just got told go back to the store and pick up another one and had the full amount to spend

From reading that i'm expecting that
1. Item i bought has broken and the said they will guarantee it for 5 years.
2. If parts are not available or they too expensive i.e (labour & parts cost more then the price i paid for the set) they will replace it for the same model (if available) if not a like for like and if a like for like is not available a settlement will take place.
3. So if they offer me anything less then £1000 (say £500) i would have to put towards to get a 42" plasma (of similar size i.e "Like for Like") and thus i'm out of pocket ???????????
Thats how i take it.
I feel if i paid £1000 and it had a 5 year guarantee and if within 5 years they could not replace or fix i should receive a full refund.

You need to check the conditions of sale when you purchased it as they may have been adjusted over time.

Ok so part is not available and they can't fix it.
They are offering this Buy Panasonic Viera TX-P42S30B Plasma HD 1080p TV, 42 Inch with Built-in Freeview HD online at JohnLewis.com or £499 to put towards another tv.
With regards to the replacement i can take it for nothing but the warranty just continues till as normal till february.
If i take the £499 and buy a new TV its like buying a new one and i get another 5 year guarantee.
Now at the moment my TV was £1000 and was classed as a very good Plasma when i bought it. Reading the reviews for the TV's where i don't have to put anything too end up with remarks like BUDGET TV, MID RANGE which my Hitatchi at the time of buying wasn't.
I now don't have any money to put towards a TV of its stature in todays market i.e another £1000 TV.
So i feel while they are giving me a "like for like" i still feel i'm being left out of pocket in a way.
I don't what to do now.
Plus even getting a LED for a few extra hundreds means i have to re design my wall as it was built for the Hitatchi and todays 46", 42" & 40" LED TV's are smaller then mine.

The only other option is if John Lewis let me keep the Hitatchi. I could live with the issue until the new year and get a smaller tv for the bedroom but i'm guessing that they will want the hitatchi back ?
