Can you not have a 3D bedroom Andy , Will you be doing a comparison before you sell etc ?,

I must admit i cannot wait for the stylish LW980 so im really tempted by the 55" LW 550 or 650, the latter i liked the styling more but would be great to have more comparisons first , oh and i keep forgetting the damn 650 is exclusive

Glad you made a decision mate

Hmmm...ok, It really is a tricky decision isn't it. I think I'm still going to stick with the plasma range just because I can't afford to fork out the extra for the 55LW550T as I don't think I could justify the 3 inch drop to the 47LW550T just for the sake of passive glasses.

I think I'm going to have to go into currys and compare the two mind. Visually is there any noticeable drop in resolution comparing passive to active?

I went from a 50" to the 47" and honestly it didn't bother me at all mate, it's worth the sacrifice for the passive glasses trust me. Visually, hmmm that's a tough one, I'm not using the best material, all the material I've got has been 720p to start with so when I say it's looked softer than active then perhaps it was a bit unfair as I haven't been feeding it the best resolution anyway. From what I've seen the passive sets are more than capable of a cracking 3D image and avatar that I watched today on the LD920 I've currently got looked superb. Honestly yes I think there is a difference but I'm beginning to realise it's worth it for the benefits of passive glasses, no flicker, no sore eyes, no headache, cheap as chips to buy/replace etc
What I will say is that I think you'd need to be sat quite far away from the 55" to prevent seeing the lines and loss of resolution. I'm just over 2m away from the 47" and it's ok but I suspect if it was 55" I'd want to be sat at least another half a metre further back, just something to bear in mind

Andy, any idea what the res would be on the usb loops in currys ?, I would really have liked to have seen full 1080p via a player,
I think i'm sitting 2.5 - 3 mtrs away from my tv, I could see the horizontal grid lines on the 42" 650 at 1.5 mtrs , what are my chances with 55

Great post andy, just asked the wife and for her it's all about the size of the set and a full hd picture...the 3D for her is a gimic. I think, if given the choice on what you've said I think I'd be swayed to the passive camp.

We've got our first baby on the way in June too, so I think that day time viewing is going to be mainly 2D (what with 3D not being suitable for children under 6) unless he/she is asleep so I kind of have to agree that 3D is going to take a back seat, even if I dream about the football, the latest movies and video games in 3D.

Techradar review of the LX550T passive 3D...they give a good review:

Switch up to three dimensions and the 47LW550T continues to raise a smile, but it isn't without its flaws.

Firstly, despite using passive technology, the 47LW550T still exhibits crosstalk. As always, it's dependant on the material, but anyone hoping this niggling 3D side-effect would be AWOL will be disappointed.

On the plus side, 3D glasses without active shutters means flickering pictures are a thing of the past. Watching Avatar 3D on the 47LW550T was a pleasure, and the fact that having ambient lights on didn't irritate the 3D delivery system was a welcome bonus.

The viewing angle is also good. Move around the room and the picture follows. The same cannot be said of Active 3D systems, where the eyewear can lose sync. However, go off-axis vertically and you begin to notice the horizontal ripples of the screen's filter, especially with bright material.

And what of the resolution loss? Well, it's certainly true that full HD 3D Blu-rays don't look as sharp as their 2D counterparts and if you get close to the screen you can clearly see where horizontal resolution has been chopped in half, but at a normal viewing distance it's much harder to spot.

And even with the resolution loss, the sharpness of the overall picture is impressive; losing half the vertical resolution doesn't mean it's suddenly back to DVD standards. It's more like Blu-ray lite. Whether or not that's good enough for you is a personal choice, but we'd suggest that the positives of the passive 3D system outweigh the negatives.

Still no luck as yet in getting a 60PZ570 from Richer Sounds. Robert Whyte on the other hand has the PZ950 and the PZ250 in stock but again, no PZ570. I am getting mildly annoyed.

Did you go for the 60 inch then? How much did it cost? Do you know whether they stock spare AG-S250 glasses yet?

I had an old Sony 50 inch DLP, and was in the fortunate position of having won the cash on the horses lol, so yes I went for the 60 inch. It cost £1540 with the 5 year guarantee. I have not as yet checked out the availability of glasses as I am not that interested in 3D although I might as well get Sky to activate it to check it out.

Once I get it up and running mate that is exactly what I intend to do. I do know DHL had not picked it up from the Edinburgh Richer Sounds shop yesterday so am hoping they do first thing today. Amazing, I live in Glasgow and have to buy from the Edinburgh store. The guy in there went the extra mile to get it for me.

It was put on the Dhl van this morning. I asked for the tracking number only to be told they dont get one, that I will recieve a phone call to arrange a mutually exclusive time for delivery. Having sat here all day without said phone call I phoned DHL who tell me that they would NOT phone me and did I have a tracking number........ARRGGHH. Richer Sounds in Edinburgh now say that it should be delivered in a couple of days, not the next day as expected, oh and not to worry there's nothing on the telly tonight that I'm missing anyway....Need to keep calm.....Keep blood pressure at acceptable level....But not happy, seems that after having paid them I have just been fobbed off.

What is it with delivery companies these days...I've seen so many posts on here where people have had so many problems with getting things delivered it could make a thread of it's own!

Can't believe they couldn't even give you a tracking number, that's ridiculous as they should be able to list all deliveries in the system based on post code!

Grrrrr! Hope you get it through soon...it's not like you have a delivery date or time either is it.

I find it ridiculous that I Paid so much for a TV but have absolutely no way of tracking where it is right now. It is a bad state of affairs that a store that went the extra mile to get me the TV cannot give me a tracking number as they themselves do not get one. I Have to sit and wait for DHL to phone.
UPDATE: Got a call from DHL at 11.45.. They will deliver tomorrow between 8am and 6pm.. They could not deliver it today for whatever reason. Glad I am finally getting it and just now have to hope it's okay when delivered.

Anyone have any reviews or comments on the LG 50PZ570 TV? Its €1300 over here in Dublin in Harvey Norman with 1 pair of 3D specs. Though I'm currently eyeing the Panasonic 50" ST30 which is a few hundred more without specs..I'll probably go for the Panny but the LG is up there for a second choice. I don't think I would be satisfied with a LCD, even though the LW550 looks interesting.

For some reason they are still really difficult to get, even to see in the shops. David, at RS in Edinburgh was the only person who could get me one.

Strange though the lack of reviews. I take it that it's similar to the PK590 from last year except with 3D added.

I guess it's because they 2011 range of plasmas has just been released. I can't find any where that stocks the AG-S250 glasses yet other than eBay.

I purchased my 50PZ570 for £854 from very.co.uk, still waiting on it to arrive on the 23rd but it's replacing an old samsung 40" 1080p LCD. I wanted to take the 3D plunge and increase the screen size along with smart tv. Did consider the passive glasses but I'm mainly going to be using it for general 2D viewing, fast sport action and gaming and thought it best to stick with active plasma for the time being as we defo wanted a 50+" screen and you're talking big bucks for for a 55 passive.

Would love to see a detailed review of the PZ570 or PZ550 as I believe the only difference between the two is that the PZ570 has smart (Internet) tv

Yes mate, I have it. Just waiting on the guy from Glasgow's RS to come up and install. I am on my own and it's kinda heavy for me to get the bracket on. I had to open it though because the box was damaged at the sides but it looks
okay. Just have to wait and see. He will be here sometime after 7pm. Pictures and a review by Sunday, assuming it's okay of course.
