Are you sure? I assumed without the black level tweak that the LG blacks were decidedly grey at night and worse due to the lack of filter were also grey during daytime? Are you saying they are similar to the GT, if so maybe all the review sites are wrong

Hi Peahead1977

I must be being a complete plank.
I tried these settings last night, set them up in expert setting, all seemed good.
I put on immortals and it switched to 3d mode.
I went into the menu to select my expert setting, but it was greyed out.
The only modes i could select were Vivid, THX3D and standard i think.
Any ideas what i'm doing wrong.
cheers

I will check when I get home to see if you can use expert 1 in 3d, if not I think I have my 3d set up as For soccer or rugby I use the 3d settings on the Game setting, for movies I use Standard (user settings) have you tried changing the settings when you are viewing a 3d pic?

No, i didn't try changing whilst viewing, just tried to select different modes.
So you can just edit the Standard mode then?

hi yes you need to set up the settings when you are viewing 3D images, you can edit any of the settings eg standard, game modes and there is a code to change the THX3D ones, I think its 8471 but can't remember if that's right or not

I didn't realise that, cheers iw ill give it another try at the weekend. I bought transformers 3 3d a few weeks ago but still haven't watched it yet. I have been very underwhelmed by the whole 3D experience. Hopefully these adjustments may make things better.
I am still loving the 2d film modes on this tv though.

Yes give it a go and when you are watching transformers later, if u get any crosstalk (normally in the black scenes) pause then change the 3D viewpoint, normally changing to +4 looks a lot better. I watched transformers 3 in cinema and on bluray, I liked the way it looked

I've messed about with the 3d settings quite alot and I really like the way the 3d looks, I changed the settings on Vivid to settings I liked (because the TV defaults to Vivid when it switched to 3D mode) plus I also used the Sky 3d test card to help with brightness and Contrast I find I am not to plagued with crosstalk but it is there occasionally.

Best blu's for 3D IMHO are Resident Evil:Afterlife, The Three Musketeers (these two have some great action sequences brilliantly framed and shot in native 3D the best 3D by far that I have seen) TT3d ( a brilliant documentary about the TT races) Transformers 3D is patchy some of it is good and some very flat. What you need to remember is things are not going to be poking you in the eye it's depth of picture and the weight that is added to all things in shot, very addictive when it's shot well and much better than cinema for me on the TV.

Contrast 80
Brightness 56
Sharpness. 60
Color 60
Tint 0
Color temp 0
Dynamic contrast Off
Dynamic color off
Noise off
Gamma medium
Black low
Film mode on
Color gamut wide
Edge enhancer off

After much messing about I really like these settings and do not find crosstalk to much of a bother, I found if contrast is to high the whites crush and if brightness is too high that does not work either, sharpness at sixty is really about as high as you should go otherwise you seeem to introduce noise, hope you enjoy how to train your dragon its a Briliiant film.

Agian I use the Vivid setting changed to the above sttings because thats what the TV defaults to when you press the 3D on Button.

3d glasses turning of during movies

Has anyone experienced this, When watching a 3d movie my glasses will turn themselves off several times during the film.
Does anyone know of a fix for this, or any advice that may help. it`s not so much a problem more of an annoyance.

I would appreciate any help or advice that mat fix this issue.

There is a problem with the glasses that they switch off after 10 mins, I've been lucky that my ones work for at least 40 mins before switching off. My girls ones switch off after 10 mins but I think it's because she wears glasses. Another poster on this thread said u can buy new glasses with updated firmware that last a lot longer

I refer you to my two posts on page 16, Post #478 & #480. Hope these posts help, this problem drove me crazy, I even rang up LG and spoke to the most obnoxious person, who kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the glasses that kept switching of every ten minutes.

It`s funny, some films the glasses may turn off only a couple of times, films like tron and potter they were turning off like they hated the film. I`ll have t look into these new glasses, thankyou for your reply.

Just checked out you posts, very helpfull, and lg told me that they had not received any complaints about the glasses even though the fault has been plastered all over the internet.
Thankyou for your help

Hi everyone

I am really thinking about buying this TV but could someone please just confirm that it does not suffer from any light bleed, banding or dirty screen effect. I have been pulling my hair out with these faults on the passive screen tv's i have tried.

Do you all recommend this TV after owning it for a while?

Thanks

Tom

Hi Tom, I've had this tv now for a couple of months and I'm impressed with it, my tv has a bit of light bleed in bottom left corner but it's only a couple of mm. No banding or dirty screen effect. At the start when I was letting it bed in, the screen looked dull but that's because I kept brightness and contrast lower than 50 with the intelligent sensor on. After a 100 or so hrs, I calibrated the tv and to this day still looks excellent. There is a bit of image retention but goes away in less than an min, maybe even 10-20 secs and that's after sitting in pro clubs dressing room in FIFA for about 10 mins. I got this to replace my lg50pk590 and the SD pic is better and once u get good 3d settings they help a lot as well. I recently watched immortals, megamind and puss in boots in 3d and now I need to watch more 3d :-) I am very happy with the tv
Mark

Glasses AG-S250 that turn off every 10 mins are firmware version 0.63 look on box label
I had the same problem with 3 pairs of these glasses. LG know about the problem. you need the newer firmware version 0.64 that only turn off when there is now 3D signal i.e 3d film stopped. you dont have to jump around move head or any of that rubbish like the f/w ver 0.63. Return glasses to LG or retailer if under warranty and demand the newer f/w ver 0.64 glasses i did and now have 3 pairs that dont turn off during film.

Hi Tom
For it`s price point there is much to recommend this tv, for me the picture quality definately punches above it`s weight, I feel the 3d could slightly better (and my 3d glasses have a habit of turning themselves of during the movie, annoying but not disarstarous), my main sticking point is the image retention it suffers from, my wife leaves for work before me, i know what time she leave as the image retention from the bbc news logo is still there when i wake up. Though once the tv has been on for a few minutes this does go away.
overall this tv is a very good buy and well woth it`s asking price.

Hi I think someone has said about this before, I think one of the HDMI inputs
is for PCs and that should work. I know my PC doesn't output audio over a dvi to hdmi lead but does work with the dvi to hdmi converter that came with card. Is it the same lead u used on other tv?

Ive no idea then, my dvi to HDMI goes straight into my amp, can u check on tv menu at the audio tab and see if it is set to auto or PCM? I use the fibre optic lead out for my headphones, I believe it only does Dolby digital
