I have been following this forum for some time now and making notes of various peoples settings.

I got my screen just before Chrimbo (firmware is 5.11) and I have had many of the problems listed on this forum, solarisation, flickering and dodgy skin tones.

Most people say on this forum that Sky+ should be connected to AV1 and set to RGB but I find that if I set it to PAL the picture quality is better.

Also I only had cheap crappy scart cables so I decided to buy a QED P2110 but I have noticed no improvement.

I find if I switch off XD this stops the flickering.

Are there any other people out there that find this?

Is my screen faulty?

Am I just being too picky?

I would be interested to hear peoples comments.

Are you getting Lip-sync also. Its probably my biggest issue with the set.

Plus what do you mean by setting AV1 to RGB or PAL. What's all this about?

I only suffer with lip-sink when using my Sony amp as it has no time delay function in the amp.

I was reffering to the Sky+ Video Output setting when comparing PAL to RGB.

Ah thanks.

Does there tend to be settings on the DVD etc that might help with lip-sync?

sathelp,

Chill out mate. I'm trying to help! After my suggestion that it could be cinema mode, and despite saying you weren't using it, it then read like you were berating the cinema mode, which wouldn't be accurate or fair. If that wasn't your intention, I apologise, but I was just responding to that point.

You say your post was to inform other people who may be wondering if certain issues are native of the design. Well, that's all my post was - to inform other people of why (the SCART 2 audio sync) is almost certainly native of the design.

But, there does seem to be some genuine problems with your set. Glad that LG has agreed to repair it - hopefully they will address at least some of the problems you posted. Although I wouldn't get my hopes up that they will 'fix' all of them.

Can I ask a question ?

With all the problems that people seem to be having with their PX11s. If you had the choice again, would you still buy the PX11 ?

It seems very hit and miss and with mine turning up on Monday it worries me a little. My colleague in work has the PX11 and has had no problems at all.

Hi I have had my LG now for three weeks (firmware 5.14) I have NTL digital on AV1 with RGB enabled the picture is quality is good but can vary between channels (solarisation and skin shade) my DVD is connected through component and this gives in my opinion a great quality picture. From my understanding as a layman in this matter and being a sad individual who has read the past 100 odd threads, previous problems with the LG should have been fixed with firmware 5.13 and above and the picture should improve with age 200 hours plus.

Hmm, this is a tough one. I think if I knew what I know now (solarisation problems etc, on what appears to be all plasmas??) I may have spent a bit more and opted for a slighty smaller LCD screen. I have an LCD and the quality is great!

What I will say for this TV is, believe what everyone says about the longer you have it the better the pic gets, especially the colours (skintones etc). You will see a massive improvement as the weeks go on. So dont panic if you think it looks poor when first plugged in.

Watching a DVD is fantastic, especially once connected to component with progressive scan. BUT with SKY+, watching all the normal day to day rubbish can at times be disappointing to outright cr*p!

The settings in this post are useful, I tried loads, and was moaned at from my other half every 2 mins however I have found that you can only truly set this yourself. Everyone has a diffferent idea of what a good picture looks like

Depends Daipac,

If you asked me would I make the same decision I did, at the time I did, with the market conditions that I did, then yes I would.

Would I buy a PX11 now though? Nope - I would probably go with Viera PV500 (although I haven't actually seen one yet!)

I found the same with setting the output to PAL, although I though this was my imagination

Has anybody really had a noticeable different picture when using an expensive scart as opposed to a cheap one? I have tried loads now and apart from the component leads for the DVD I can see no difference at all. Surely there must be some justification in spending all the money these leads cost?

Havent tried turning off the XD yet, although I havent had any flickering problems (touch wood).

I was thinking myself, am I just being picky? Ok, so this is not the most expensive Plasma out but when spending over a £1000, plus leads, stands and better DVD players, you are entitled to be picky!

Fair enough about the Viera but with it costing around £1k more then you would expect it to be better I suppose.

I am looking forward to getting my PX11 tho. I am not the sort of person to go spending £150 on a cable and £1000 on a scaler, etc. so as long as the picture is good then I am happy. If it isn't good then it will be going back within the 28 days period.

But then when I bought the PX11, it was a lot closer to £2000. And panels such as the PW6 were well over £2000 for the config I would need. I wasn't going to spend over £2000 on a PW6, but a little over £2000 for a high-res Viera? That is a different prospect.

Yes, there is still value in a £1300 PX11, but I was always prepared to spend more than that - and certainly would be now. At the very least I would be deciding between the 42PY10 and the PV500.

At the risk of sounding like your average panny owner twisting the knife . .

I had a Samsung plamsa tv (£1800 from Dixons) and it showed all of the problems people are mentioning here; solarisation, poor skin tones, crap Sky+ PQ etc.

In the end it did my head in and I sold it cheap. I got a PWD6 from RS for £1099 (now £1299). The difference is so great I can't begin to tell you. I used to cringe every time I watched it, and now I smile every time I watch it. I put it down to better greyscale (1024 colours instead of 256), more colours and just better glass and circuitry all round.

After reading some other posts from LG owners I really thought you were all happy bunnies. This is the first time I've read this thread and I'm shocked to read that you're not all thrilled as I thought you were.

In case anyone has not bought their plasma yet and is still wondering, there is a gulf of difference between a lower end plasma and a better one (based on my own experience). A PW6/PWD6/PW7/PWD7 can be bought for about the same cost as the LG, though it may require a couple of extras.

The actual Panny panel can be bought for the same as the LG but then you need to add on the input boards, speakers, etc. In the end it just became too much of a hassle and went over my budget.

I am sure I will be more than happy with the LG for the price I paid for it.
