Panasonic TX-P42G10B 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p Plasma TV with Freesat

Apologies if info regarding this TV is posted elsewhere. I have tried looking but theres just so much to look through.

I have been looking at this TV for the past month now (since being informed what bonus I got from work)
Panasonic TX-P42G10B 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Anyway, have read many many good reviews about the TV, excellent picture quality, even SD better than most LCD's and other TV's on the market.

However, have also read stories about IR and screen burn.

I just wondered if there was anyone who had this TV and could offer their thoughts and anyone else who has any info to offer would be much appreciated.

How much of an issue is it? Are tehre just an unlucky few, or is it a general problem with Panasonic plasmas?

Bit of extra info: I will be using for Sky+ (not HD), and PS3.

The G10 series have a MLL increase which in short your blacks will turn grey, a knock on result from this is bad IR and washed out images. I know all this as I had one.
What kind of budget you on mate?

Ideally under £700.

I've always heard that Panisonic were pretty much best on the market (apart from Pioneer) in terms of what what you get for your money, and from other information Ive read, plasma's are generally more forgiving with Standard Def TV. Seeing as I'm not plannning on getting Sky HD for a while, but will be watching blu rays, this is what lead me to the pani.

Also, with World Cup on the horizon, I wanted to get a TV that came with Freesat, and again generally speaking, could only find Pani's that offered it as standard. Thats why this one really grabbed my attention.

I'm litterally on the verge of buying it as I've been contemplating for a while. But after your comments I am now highly concerned. £700 to me is a lot of money and I want a TV thats going to last me a good while. I can't affor to be replacing my TV every couple of years

The G10 is a pretty huge subject on here, without going through thousands of posts the best i could say is check out the MLL evaluation thread, that will give you a brief and general idea of what you could expect and the problems these sets are having.

As a soon to be EX-owner of the G10, my honest recommendation is don't buy one, £700 is alot of money so it would be too high risk, from my personal experience it has been the worst set i've owned and a massive regret.

Best of luck mate.

Theres a thread on the MLL increase on the 2009 models. If you can find another £150(check down the back of the sofa) then the G20 is good, so far Ive not had any problems and nither has others who have had the tv for some time. There is some reporting floating blacks (theres a thread on that too) but I 98% of others havent had that problem.

Fair enough that your happy with your G20 but i fail to see just how anyone that has had the experience people like you and me have had with the G10's could possibly recommend someone spending £850+ or even a pound to be honest, on a Panasonic.

Let's remember our G10's were great to start with and the fact you and anybody else cannot say with ANY certainty it won't happen again, i personally just could not recommend a Panasonic to anyone, let alone when the guy has said £700 is alot to him so to recommend spending £850 on a still high risk product actually amazes me.

and 98%? of how many people is that 98% figure taken from? Your making it sound like it's a non issue, the same way others did with the MLL saga.

Wow red chill mate
98% rough guess on the other users who posted in the G20 thread who said yes they do no they dont get floating blacks.
As for the G20 yeah I'm happy and been keeping a very close eye on my local independant store on there G20 (been there since lauch) both me and the owner have been looking, he has too as he doesnt want another G10 outbreak problem like he had before. So far there hasnt been a issue with MLL by what ive been reading online, all plasma tvs will get a MLL increase its only normal and what ive read the MLL for these 2010 line up fall into this. But only time will tell. Theres a few guys on the G20 thread keeping a eye on the MLL and so far all has stayed the same, I think i read one where there was a increase but so very slight somthing like 0.016 to 0.02. (remembering of the top of my head)
Yeah I you and many others had major issues with the G10, and I'm the first to admit that Panasonic handled the issue badly to say the least. But what other options are there for a decent 42" plasma?
I said i would never get another Panny but at this size there isnt anything better......is there?

The extremely premature recommending of these sets just surprises me to be honest, especially from suffering G10 owners who i think should be a bit more responsible but hey this is why Panasonic handled the issue the way they have because ultimately it makes no odds how they treat people, as we'll soon forget and will be recommending them to everyone in no time. Result Panasonic

You've only had yours, what 7, 8 days and the stuff i've read from you today alone has been astonishing considering past and present circumstances.

I only suggest to those looking for a 42" plasma tv, as there isnt anything better out there.

You've only had yours, what 7, 8 days and the stuff i've read from you today alone has been astonishing considering past and present circumstances.
Nope had mine 2days, been keeping my eyes on my local independents G20 along side the owner who also is worried about MLL rises as being a small shop with bigger fish around he doesnt want anymore issue. His like i said has been on display since they was released and there has not been any issues (so far)

Yes I'm happy with my G20, its more than I expected it to be, and imo blows anything else out the water in the 42" size at this moment, if something better comes along i would suggest that. If he had asked for a 50" i would have suggested the Lg PK590 as i did earlier to someone else on here tonight.

See bold bits

Right cool, so to the original poster, £700 is alot of money so the recommedation is to actually spend £850 and instead of watching and enjoying the tv whilst £150 off budget, please spend almost your entire time worrying yourself sick about MLL rise and floating blacks. Don't forget to tell all your friends.

Warning- don't actually take that advice as it's from just 2 days of ownership, although you could because atleast from the start it'll blow anything else out of the water, hey long term ownership is over-rated

Well he's using Sky+ so i'm not sure why he wants Freesat (unless he means Freesat HD), but as no-one can be certain and the budget is preferably under £700 he could more or less choose any other 42" between £500-600, after all if something does go wrong with your recommendation he'll end up with something worse. Look what the G10's ended up looking like.

Failing that i wouldn't recommend a 42" plasma.

Anyway your £150 over his budget so really what would you recommend?!!

You forgot to mention me and the boss of my local independent store keeping a eye on things since it was realeased. And we have yet to see any issues. I could not bother you no and let people get on with things, not email panny about issues with floating blacks/mll on behalf of the folks here, not keep a eye on the g20s and soon vt20s and report any issues if they happen. Maybe I wont bother anymore.

EDIT: I would recommend waiting a couple on months tvs seem to be falling in price like mad at the moment, who knows by then there maybe a tv better than the 42" G20.

Sorry I meant Freesat HD, for the benefit of seeing the world cup in HD, ala BBC HD and ITV1 HD

And thanks for your opinions. At the moment, I'm moving more away from the Pani plasma's, unless someone can recommend another pani 42" for similar price? Appreciate G20 is available, but is over my budget unfortunately, especially as theres no gaurantee it won't happen again
