Panasonic PX70B, remote commands ignored.

Hi,

I’ve had a Panasonic TH-PX70B for over two years now. I use a pronto to control it and the factory remote sits in the cupboard untouched.

However, the last two nights, the pronto has not operated the TV properly. The symbol appears suggesting that the commands are being sent to change channel but nothing happens, then after perhaps 30 seconds, all the commands happen, moving the channel up several times at once. The AV/ TV button has the same effect. The green LED by the power button flashes suggesting that the TV is “seeing” the remote command but not taking the appropriate action.

Periodically when watching the TV the info banner will appear at the bottom of the screen as if the screen selection has been reaffirmed, although I'm not even handling the remote.

I’ve tried changing channel with the factory remote and a similar thing happens.

Has anyone experienced similar problems?

I’ve an extended warranty so should be covered but wonder if it’s a show stopper or something that might clear itself up. Don’t really want to be without for a couple of weeks while it’s fixed.

Thanks

Chris

Hi ChrisA,

Yep this a known problem with the latest firmware mine on the 50PX70 states 1.520 that was broadcast around 3 weeks ago. Apparently the PX70 series, mines a 50PX70 and my brother has a 37PX70 also experienced this.

I rang up yesterday to log a service call as I thought something was going wrong and had a call back saying Panasonic are aware of the bug and will be releasing a fix this week (week 6) to solve the problem.

Other symptons include
  • Switching itself off
  • Switching itself off / on then changing to a Input and you cannot change without switching the Plasma off then on again.
  • Switching channels by itself
  • Volume not responding / OSD bar appears but does not move

Thanks Stu, you've helped put my mind at ease!

I guess you're talking about over the air updates. How would I know what version of firmware I had now?

FYI, I also have a 50" and would be heart broken if it broke down!

Regards

Got a software version of 5.580 - is that what I'm looking for? Seems like a big jump from 1.520

Hmmm. I'm sure mine was 1.520, I'll check again later.

Hi Stu,

Did you check your software version last night? It seems we are nto alone with this. See this thread. It seems to suggest that the siftware version may be geographic with some havig 5.58, others 5.50 as the latest version.

Good luck,

C

Hi ChrisA,

Checked mine again this morining and it's definately 1.520! I did another manual software update check and it said it's up to date.

I always turn my plasma off using the button and never use the standby feature so I wonder if I've missed out on some updates!

If it is regional, I live in Berkshire, the Meridian region is outr local news on ITV.

Looking at the update schedule, looks like nothing for Panasonic (apart from Freesat) this/next week! If this is correct.

Thats interesting. So this details where manufacturers are going to send an OTA update to their equipment? I note that there's one scheduled for the Humax PVR9300T this week. I'm having a similar problem with my 9200T, sluggish/ no response to the remote. I wonder if there's been a similar update recently.

Do you know if there's details of the updates content anywhere?

No ChrisA,

I found that link when I did a search on this forum for 1.520 to see if my firmware was common. I don't know anything other than what's on that website.

mine does this and only started doing it last week, where i could be watching sky then all of a sudden it will change from hdmi 1 to tv, and thats when my remote has a big delay when pressing. (volume most notably) and when i switch my wii on it does it then too, and 1 other thing it does it pops up every minute hdmi/ecs??? (i think thats what it says anyway) in the top left hand corner.
my tv is Panasonic TH - 37PX70PED - 37". Is there a fix for this?
