Exclamation STOP! Don't buy a plasma TV (until you've read this pile of ill-informed tat)!

Some very poor arguments, seemingly from 2004 but actually from about 1 year ago. Jeez...

I must be missing the point; what's the purpose of bringing this load of rubbish to light as if buyers are not confused enough.

This article seems to refer to the Canadian market. As far as I can see it makes no mention of LCD, except as a projection system, as an alternative on to CRTs. CRTs probably carried on being sold a lot longer there than here in Europe. Having much bigger CRT screens was a lot more common on the other side of the Atlantic so people may have been reluctant to change them at such high prices. North Americans never went through the SD 'widescreen' phase as we did which is why they continued to make 4:3 programmes until quite recently. It's a different market place. I wouldn't pay attention to any article where they cannot even spell the name Philips correctly. (Phillips!).

I thought people enlightened about the advantages of plasma TVs may find an article purporting to be insightful, but in reality pooly informed, somewhat of an amusing read. Many of the comments below it seem to disagree with him anyway. That's all.

Plus it's amusing for him to say that it's some sort of pipedream for us to even have the audacity to think of mounting our TVs on the wall! Won't someone think of the wires!

Sorry, but stuff like this is funny in an ill-informed Glenn Beck kind of way, just wanted to share.

The first comment below the article is from mid 2005, so looks like the date at the top of the article is wrong.

Ah then it makes a little more sense. Still not to well informed but some arguments held more weight in 2005 than in late 2008.

Hi,
This is just an article about the downsides of the technology - image retention and SD picture are common issues. It does mention the plus side of owning a Plasma TV, but this is not meant to be a competition. 5 years ago a large screen Projector TV was probably more affordable than a Plasma TV but the situation is completely different now.

I don't see a problem with having the information, but I already know my set is worse for SD broadcasts and has a limited viewing angle - the benefits are HD detail and connectivity. Also, CRT TVs have internal reflections/lens flare with Contrast images. DLP also has viewing angle issues, and the cost of a new bulb every so often.
