Noticed that the previous image (e.g. sky menu) can stay on the screen a while after it should have gone. In fact, watching the TV last night, I'm sure I could see 'some' lines when the picture was dark.

Is this normal for a Plasma TV?

Yes- even more normal for a LG Plasma tv
Panasonics are more resistant (not 100% foolproof)to Image retention and screen burn. LCDs do not suffer from this, but like i said above, panasonics are less prone.

You will only get permanent damage if the image is on screen for at least 5 or 6 hours. Unless your settings are really high, particularly contrast and colour. It will also be worse when the set is new, how long have you had it?

Should be OK as it's a newer model. Over time the effect gets less and less noticeable. It's practice to turn down the settings for the first 200 hours or so, which lessens the problem still more.

Don't worry - you've got a good TV and any IR won't lead to a permanent problem.

I've now got 4 LGs and even the oldest one - on which is the most prone - is fine You can use the screen washes to remove anything that seems to hang around but I've found that just watching something else removes anything anyway.

Our sets have been left on all night many times. Falling asleep in front of Sky news is the most common thing

Sky logos and the scrolling news banner can be seen for a while but I've never had a permanent problem - it just goes away over time.

Indeed, after a while (9 out of 10 times it is seconds) it will go away , just enjoy your set but a general tip: dont watch the same channel for ours for it could get annoying after that movie or show to still see that channel logo (but that counts for most plasmas).
Personally I have a PG6000 and I love the picture it gives me and yes, I game a lot on it and have a lot of static images but no problems at all .
