Screen burn after 4 weeks and still burning now, fuzzy screen...
ive had my samsung 42" PS42A41 Model plasma tv for about 8 weeks now, to find it has really bad screen burn at the bottom of the screen off my xbox. i dont play my xbox much but when i do i seem to get burns easily, my settings are low and my tv has been calibrated but no luck, pixel protector has been run and still no luck. I phoned up great universal and they sent an engineer out, he said i had a low instensity screen that could be faulty, he said i needed a new screen. I signed for the repair to be taken place and great universal cancelled the repair!!!! surely they cannot do that! im certain its a faulty screen. has anyone else had this problem with the same television?! am i liable to a replacement? the burn was reported 4 weeks after i bought the television.

I think you need to take this further. You have a 12 month warranty so check your terms and conditions. I am sure you are entitled to a repair free of charge. Maybe trading standards could advise you further? If the engineer THEY sent out recommended you need it repairing I would be interested in hearing what they had to say if you push it.

they said screen burn isnt included with the warrantry because it comes under wear and tear!! altho i was never sent a warrantry detail booklet with it =S. its ridiculous, i cant see theburn as being wear and tear with only being 8 weeks old. And now im starting too see fuzzy pixels down the left hand side of the screen when i turn it on, it becomes less visible after 15 minutes but i can still see it. I shall ring the catalogue on monday to report the additional fault, surely they will get there fingers out wont they!? anyone had any problems with samsung repair centre?! they refused to fix it too!!!!! do you reckon consumer direct will sort it?

Re: Screen burn after 4 weeks and still burning now, fuzzy screen...
My panasonic gets almost immediate image retention, but its only ever visible on a black screen. For example if I switch to an input with no signal (which displays a black screen), then pop up the input selection menu which has a fairly high contrast popup menu down the right hand side, leave it for 10 secs then cancel it I can see the ghostly outline of the menu. This however fades away quickly when watching normal TV and isn't visible when displaying anything else, only a black screen.
The same obviously happens with any static image - Xbox dashboard, game HUD etc.
Note that image retention does not (in my experience) disapear while the TV is switched off. So if you left it with a retained image when switching it off, switch it back on some time later and display the same static image (COD4 HUD etc) then you are effectively adding to the image.
If its only visible on a black or white screen and does fade away then I'd say it was perfectly normal. If its visible when watching TV normally and doesn't fade even after some time of watching something else and not displaying that same static image then I'd be more worried for the long term life of the TV.
As for the fuzzy pixels - sounds like a seperate fault to me which they should look at. Id report it as a seperate fault, not mentioning or linking it to the 'screen burn' as they are perfectly correct that screen burn is specifically excluded in all TV waranties (even LCDs)

That's what I was wondering. Screen burn is where the phospors are so knackered the colours in that part of the screen always look wrong. Is this image retention where you get an after-image for a while? And how long for? And what are you playing? And what settings are the brightness, contrast and mode on?

im positive its screen burn, you hit the nail on the head! call of duty 4 HUD, i play for about an hour or so at a time, the screen burn is 4 pink blothces and it hasnt faded one bit even using burn protection and pixel protector. The bottom left hand side is the timer and score meter (call of duty 4) and the bottom right hand side of the tele has grenade icons burned in! im so pi**ed off because i can see it all the time even when im watching tele. Brightness and contrast both at 40% its on standard mode, i was advised by "SAMSUNG" to put it on game mode which made it burn even more because the brightness and contrast were at 90+!!!!! do you get bad image retention?

Re: Screen burn after 4 weeks and still burning now, fuzzy screen...
Don't play those games for a week. See it if goes away. I've played COD4 for 3 hours straight on my Panny and not had a problem, had a tiny "just about visible on a black background" outline of the radar on GTA4 after 4 hours. This screen sounds like a lemon but worth seeing if it goes with time.

Re: Screen burn after 4 weeks and still burning now, fuzzy screen...
Or play COD in Hardcore TDM mode. I don't think you get the HUD type displays in Hardcore, you don't in COD WAW.
I've played COD for 2-3 hours on Panasonic PZ70 and can see retained image on a black screen, but not in normal viewing or another game. I really wouldn't expect pink blotches. My image retention is visible as the actual image outline if I get close enough. On black screen it shows up as a clear outline in slight grey - you have to be close to make it out but text would be readable.

i love call of duty!!! lol i play hardcore too but its not the same. i never played call of duty for the first 3 weeks i got it because i was working a lot, when i did i immediately got screen burn after like an hour and that is the same screen burn that is there now, that would proparbly indicate there was maybe a fault with the television, especially the pink blothes with stand out a lot. what is a lemon?

I presume you have seen in the Samsung manual, the warning on the first page about not leaving a static image on-screen for more than 2 hours?
If I remember rightly, this set is one of Samsung's entry level plasma's and has an older design of plasma panel that is more prone to retention. I think you need to speak to Samsung and see what they say on the matter. They may be willing to help as it sounds like the retailer has washed their hands of the problem.

Surely breaking the Sale of Goods Act, if you paid by credit card contact them saying the reseller has sold you goods not fit for purpose and won't accept a return. Also call trading standards and Samsung

Re: Screen burn after 4 weeks and still burning now, fuzzy screen...
I had to ditch Battlefield Bad Company because it was causing bad retention on my Panasonic. A good few hours of a 'snow' screen eventually cured it. I love COD but only play hardcore to avoid the HUD being onscreen.

yeah i read the samsung manual but i dont play call of duty that much, i dont run game after game after game i have a break or turn my television off to refresh it. Im awaiting to hear what the managing director from the company i bought it from says/does, i got it on credit so if they dont sort it out the consumer direct will be taking over.
