Samsung PS50A557S3FXXU audio - bass

Hi,

We have just taken delivery of a Samsung PS50A557S3FXXU plasma and are very pleased with the picture, but the speakers seem very, very weak. The sound is crisp and clear I suppose, but there is very, very little bass component. It sounds to me as if only tweeters were running and woofers were not. I have been into the sound settings and have it set to custom, with a high gain on the low end of the 5-band equaliser, but the bass is still very poor. It is bad enough that I can have problems understanding speech because there is no real timbre to the voices.

As this is our first flat or thin TV I don't know what to expect. Can someone tell me, is this quality of audio to be expected from modern sets? Are you expected to buy external speakers? Is this a consequence of the lack of a big box to resonate in?

Also, there is a flashing green light on a PCB within the rear of the set. Is this normal? Manual does not mention it.

Thanks,

Chandy

Re: Samsung PS50A557S3FXXU audio - bass

Hi

Im afraid it is a trait of the samsung having weak audio because of the speaker used to get inside the bezel

A quick fix and one i use is to hook up a cheap2,1 pc speaker set via the 3.5mm headphone jack at around £25 from pc world or similar

Drastically improves the sound and the volume on the remote controls the volume

regards

Also, the most efficient way to get the speakers to sound bassier (without upgrading, of course) is to reduce the treble and increase the overall volume.

@kjt2004 + @YellowSphere.

Thanks guys, both very good tips! I changed to 'music' setting for audio and then upped bass and dropped treble from there and now it sounds a lot better. Going to look at PC speakers too.
