I love the tv - HD material is great, even SD is good as is gaming, but this phosphor trail / lag is very annoying. Ah well, hope it lessens with use as per the excellent replies so far given

Many thanks

Emmerdale?? What content in that shows it up?

Apart from the bright objects panning against a dark background, I do notice them when moving my eyes. There's definitely something about the green which is picked up on peripheral vision.

Re: Am i seeing Phosphor trails? (Panasonic TH42PZ85).

Are you sure it's actually lag you're seeing and not just an artefact of the sequential colour? If you pause on a high contrast shot (something from a black and white film would be ideal) and flick your eyes around the screen, do you still see the problem? If so it's because you're sensitive to the sequential colour system that plasma uses - it shows all the red content, then all the green content, then all the blue content sequentially and the eye/brain integrates them into a full colour image. Some people (like me!) are very sensitive to it.

Well now, I never knew that. It explains what I was talking about very nicely, thanks.

Re: Am i seeing Phosphor trails? (Panasonic TH42PZ85).

So how can you actually "test" if you can see phosphor trails, without going to a shop or something and watch some plasmas. Also, a weird thing was when some guy posted a video of phosphor trails on youtube while playing his Gears of War 2 game on the xbox 360, I actually saw those yellowish trails flickering on the walls of the area where he was at the game on his TV.

Is that possible at all when watching the video through a normal LCD monitor?...weird

Is that my video? Which was GOW1. Either way, yes I'd expect phospor trails to be visible, the camera picks them up & they're then part of the video picture.

As far as the sequential colour thing is concerned, there might be frames where the camera & TV are out of sync and it picks up the colours slightly differently than your eyes might but it's not the same effect.

Yeah it was GoW1 I guess, and your video. So if the camera has picked them up, everybody is able to see the phosphor trails wether they can see it or not, isn't it? If that's the case then I still have hope! yay! :o

Yeah, I think I said a couple of times on youtube that they don't look that bad in real life. The camera really accentuates them. I can see phospor trails but it hasn't stopped me buying another panny panel. It's a minor, rare irritation in an otherwise stonking picture.

I must be lucky as I have never noticed any trails - Is it a personal thing or is it that some screens do it worse than others?

It's both. It depends on how the screen is being driven, and how sensitive you are to things like that.

Re: Am i seeing Phosphor trails? (Panasonic TH42PZ85).

When watching the the first .mov vid of this website: What’s That Green Trail On My Plasma?
I can clearly see the yellow(green at first) trails following the bars, does that mean I am really sensitive to this phosphor ? Or is it again the camera which exaggerates the phosphor trails so much that everyone can see them?

No it doesn't mean anything. The camera has picked it up and you are just seeing what the camera recorded. The only way to know is by watching something with high/low contrasting scenes such as the movie sin city etc.

They all do it but it's highly dependent on content.

I'm sensitive to it

I love Sin City

I still would recommend a Panny plasma to anyone.
