Set my mind to rest on screen burn

Right folks, I'm all set to purchase a new TV over the next few weeks, most likely to be the Panasonic PZ80. What really concerns me is the issue with screen burn and image retention. I know that in the past few years it has all but been eliminated to a certain extent, however I still keep receiving advice on how to prevent it.

I'm likely going to use my set for the PS3 mainly, and apparently games are the worst offenders when it comes to retaining an image.

How likely is it that I will get image retention? After how long a gaming session? Do I need to do anything other than half brightness for the first 200 hours in order to minimize the risk?

Is an LCD a better option for gaming?

Many thanks

Re: Set my mind to rest on screen burn

Keep brightness and contrast down to 50% for the first 200 hrs and have a break every hour for about 10mins watching normal tv if gaming.
If you have a orbiter on the plasma keep it enabled, stick to this method for a couple of months(200 hrs) and you won't have a problem.ATB PETE.

And don't keep it in 'dynamic'.

Re: Set my mind to rest on screen burn

Whats the PQ like of something like the PZ80 when brightness and contrast are on 50%, and the screen is set to cinema and warm? Im getting one soon and will be setting my screen to the above settings, but want to know if it is worth turning the settings up after the 200 hours?

I think the PQ is beautiful.
Don't know why you would want to turn it up after 200 hours...
My personal opinion, of course.

Good good. I've got the 50PZ80 ordered and it should hopefully arrive on Monday. Can't wait!

Re: Set my mind to rest on screen burn

If you're primarily (80% of the time or more) using it for GAMES on the PS3, my advice is get an LCD.

Re: Set my mind to rest on screen burn

Re: Set my mind to rest on screen burn

Thanks guys

After the initial 200 hours, is it ok to game for more than one hour at a time or is that a permanent issue I'd have to deal with?

Choddo, got any recommendations for similar sized LCDs in the same price range?

Cheers
