Panasonic 37PX80B or Samsung PS42A457

If the choice of Plasma TV was either the Panasonic 37PX80B or the larger screen Samsung PS42A457 which would you go for ? Is it a choice of quality (Panasonic )versus quantity (Samsung) ?
I personally want a 42" Plasma but the wife is saying this would be too large for our room and to get the 37" screen.
Price is also a factor as I do not really want to spend much more than £500 and with the wife's staff discount I can get the Panasonic for £447 but the Samsung is only £479 at Richer Sounds.
So can anyone offer me any views on which screen to get.
I suspect most will say pay the difference and get the Panasonic 42PX80 but this is £630 from Argos (which is the best price i can find at the moment) and do not really want to spend that amount.
Just for information I sit between 7-10 feet from the TV depending which sofa I sit on.
Please help me make a decision so that I can get it ordered for xmas.

7 to 10ft away is fine for a 42". The panny is probably better, but the Samsung is not that bad, with your budget restriction there's not a lot of choice at 42".

Size does grow on you and the 37" will soon seem too small. Have you seen them in the shops? RS sell them both.

I have seen them both in the shops and I would prefer the 42" but I just need to convince the other half. The Samsung just seems such a bargain to me. I will mainly be watching Freeview & DVD's and the picture quality on the Samsung seemed fine to my eye. Just wary that everyone rates the Panasonics much better than Samsungs but I do not want to overspend to get a plasma as I am also hoping to get an LCD 42" for the conservatory for the Wii and kids DVD's.
Only looking at spend 1K for both TV's.

Re: Panasonic 37PX80B or Samsung PS42A457

Hi

Either of those will be a fine choice

i have seen both and both are good .

Panny fans will say panny and sammy fans will say samsung

Id go have a look at both in action

Both have their faults but bang for buck hard to beat either.

In the end my guess it will probably be the size that affects your decision
regards
