I set up mine when new, and with cinema defaults as the starting point, I needed brightness down 1 step. Colour and sharpness stayed at default.

Now with 400 hours on the clock and another calibration session I ended up with brightness still down 1 step, sharpness still at default, but colour now needs to be at +7 steps.

Anyone else found big colour changes after the initial run-in?
What's a DVE disk?

Re: Panasonic TH50PZ80B Owners

hi guys,

just bought the 46 inch today, was going to get the 50, but couldn't turn away from the costco deal. I have done a search, but can't find basic settings to switch to out-of-the-box, sure there is one, can somebody post a link if they have it please?

cheers

I too saw this at my local Tesco's today at the same price, which kinda pleased me a little as I bought mine back in September for not that much more - £1099.

I got it from JL Manchester, PM'd against Total Digital in Birmigham. Can't see why JL wouldn't PM your local Tesco, as Tesco has the set on display along with the shelf price.

I don't have Freeview - only Sky (and had Freesat for a short while). My viewing distance is 12ft, and I am happy with the quality - though some channels are better than others. To be honest, as long as it's watchable, I'm not that bothered about normal TV. For me, I bought it for it's excellent HD capabilities - gaming, and watching DVD's/BluRay's via the PS3.

Just stick it in Cinema mode.

If you want to tweak it from there, use a calibration disc or a THX dvd.

Mine was initially set to:

Cinema mode
Contrast / Brightness / Sharpness @ 50%
Colour balance @ Warm

This is pretty much the same setting used by HDTVTest when they reviewed the 42PZ80.

5 months down the line (and with 708 hours clocked) the only change I have made is to set the Colour balance to Normal.

Digital Video Essentials (DVE). A display/audio calibration disc. Loads of test material but mostly useful for brightness and colour settings. The disc includes a blue filter, this is what lets you set the colour correctly.

Am intrigued to know what the costco deal was. Am now set up with 50" from Bennetts and very happy with it... but still wondering how much of a good price I could have got the 46" for. Thanks

I too have ordered the 46" from Costco - it's coming today! £770 and £20 for delivery!! I've also ordered the SC-HTR310 stand with built-in surround sound for just £300! As I'm pretty much a techno virgin, could anyone tell me what the best set-up will be for this TV & stand with Sky+ and also what, if anything, will differ when my Sky+HD arrives? Ta muchly!!

Sorry, could you only post on this thread if you own a pz80. Looking through this thread is a mess becuase people are posting about buy and and prices. Its an owners thread. Make another thread if you want purchase info!

Thanks

Ok, I'll shut up until mine arrives NEXT WEEK!

Just need to search through this thread now to find optimum settings for 'bedding' the picture in! Wish me luck!

Re: Panasonic TH50PZ80B Owners

Ive read various bits regarding different firmwares on this TV. Mine arrives on Friday, so how would I go about upgrading firmware? Would I have to link TV up to my PC and upgrade the firmware that way??
