bigger proj screen so need new telly

not spent any money on my hobby for over a year, getting withdrawal symptoms,so i thought i could do with increasing my proj screen size from 84" to 100" diagonal.
the problem is i have the sony 50" rptv which stands away from the wall,my present screen pulls down behind and just level with the top of the tv,(i can't lower the tv any further).
so a bigger screen will be below the rear of the tv.i can't move the screen in front of the tv as it would be too far into the room,
so the only solution i can see is to replace the tv for a plasma or lcd 50" that can sit flatter against the wall.
i am more than happy with this tv's picture,so i am only go to change it to enable me to get a bigger pj screen,
my questions are which 50"/52" tv is the best picture for the lowest price?,would a 1080p model be worth the extra money?some of the tv's i have looked at seem to have digital shimmering in dark areas, and not very good edges around objects, are the ones under a thousand worth getting?
thanks
