Thats also my point, they are different.
Chapter 8 in Casino Royal is a train snaking through the geen tree line countryside at night.
User and standard crush black, movie does not.
Once you calibrate user correctly then it will track the same as Movie, and I suspect that is what Gordon measured, cuz he wanted to see if he could get a proper result without accessing the ISF service menu.
I have managed to calibrate 4280's using the user menu, but the settings are seriously wild. They are not perfect but only a side by side comparison with an accurate say 508XD would show that.
The user presets has the same starting point out of the box that you have when you first enter the ISF menu, same gamma characteristics ETC but when you finish, gamma tracks at the almost the same point as movie.
In fact once you finish with ISF its more accurate than movie. | Hi Bumtious,
Thanks for the reply, I suspected it may not be as simple as I'd hoped but there you go. It was worth asking about though.
I agree completely that ISF should be understood as it's a specialist process and I've no doubt worth every penny.
Regards,
Carl

I've now had a chance to take a black level photo of my neighbour's TH-42PZ85, to compare with the 508XD and LX5090.
All photos were taken at ISO 250, f4.5 and 5 second exposure using a 50mm f1.4 lens and Canon EOS-5d camera. Panasonic TH-42PZ85 (below)
The white is the input indicator which pops up on no input. Notice the screen burn/retention! Yikes Pioneer 508XD (below) Pioneer LX5090 (below)
I'm amazed as to how much the 8G is better than the new PZ - nevermind the 9G.

Forget the blacks (no don't) Look at the retention on the Panny.
The worrying one is the choose match and the letterbox lines. The other is the video input menu that would have been there for no more than about 10 seconds.
When watching Sky you MUST turn ON the "onscreen logo time out feature" from the sevice menu, picture set up.
This kills the interacive button notifications after 30 seconds
And if you are watching freeview, you kill these Icons by pushing the green button on your remote.
This applies to any freeview product.
All sets have their floors!!!

These pictures show like-for-like comparisons of three TVs taken with identical camera settings (Canon EOS-5D full-frame camera with 50mm f1.4 lens. Exposure 10 seconds, f4.5 and ISO 250).
Please note that the TVs will not look like this to the human eye, as the camera is more sensitive, but the pics allow a comparison between TVs. Panasonic TH-42PZ85 (below) Pioneer 508XD (below) Pioneer LX5090 (below)

It's a nasty test, as you cannot see the retention on the Panasonic looking at it, but you can see it on the photo. Scary stuff. |

First settings below for LX5090,
LX6090 will follow tomorrow and they are different.
This will get you into the ballpark of what an ISF calibrated set will look like.
The settings are likely to be tweaked next Friday as the set I am using for these setting will be well past 200 hours by then.
It is no substitute for a proper calibration and it is using the movie mode of which the settings will work across all inputs.
No 2 sets that I have calibrated have the identicle settings. There are good calibrators that frequent the forum and they will only be too pleased to provide thier services to you.
You will have to keep changing Pure cinema modes depending on the source you are using.
Any questions please ask them in the main 9G thread.
Further settings will be added and it will take about a week for this thread to become full with info you are likely to need.

| I see the above settings posted by Bumtious, are these for movies only, i.e DVD and HD? Or will these work with Sky (HD in my case) normal TV viewing and gaming?

Okay sure, the long exposure has made the retention more visible than it normally would, but flippin' 'eck! My monitor's calibration isn't too far off, either |

Another couple of noob questions :
1) Do I just leave SkyHD on 1080i all the time?
2) Is any particular input better than another i.e should I leave Sky in input 1 and my PS3 in input 3?
Cheers
