Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

Re: HDMI cable, I know it doesen't need to be very expensive, so a fiver cable is ok to use.

I have decided to go a little bit more than a fiver as cables at that price were pretty thin and had no shielding.

Just thought I will share this with you:

http://ukhdmi.com/

Amasing quality cables, looked very similar to the ones that were selling at arount £90 - £100 at my local Empire Direct joint.

I went for the HDMI Maestro 2 x 2m.

Hope this helps someone hunting for good cheap cable.

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

I was just wondering if I would get any real benifit if I upgraded my Pio 2016 amp for an Onkyo 875? Hyper Fi have B stock for £599, and there are others second hand for a bit less.
Just bought new 5m HDMI leads and a scart cable for my 5090 which comes on Wednesday, working Monday/Tuesday so no one in for delivery.
So I must wait......and keep reading about your sets instead of watching mine.
Oh, one more question please, I have a Humax PVR free view which I was going to stil try to use, obviously for recording programs. This will be connected via a scart cable, will this be better than the built in free view, or just the same?

Many thanks.

Man...the heat from these beasts, the wife and i have resorted to drawing straws to determine who has to approach it to change the dvd when it finishes...phew. But on a brighter note, this winters gas bill should be substantially lower...err if we survive the summer that is

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

This is from Revenge of the Sith on DVD.

And this is from Spiderwick on blu-ray.

I seem to have some kind of moire pattern on these photos - not sure what to do about that. Not much help to others wanting to assess image quality on the 5090.

Re: Pioneer 9G Owners Thread

Hi guys,

Been playing with the 5090 tonight - tried Casino Royale on Bluray on the PS3 - and I've noticed something on completely black backgrounds (i.e on scene changes in Casino Royale, or when changing sources). I notice that when there is a completely black background displayed it's 'blotchy'.. That's the best way I can describe it. It's not perfectly black and has blotches all over it. This was very noticeable during a scene change in the film as I could see it wasn't completely black..

Could someone check this on theres for me? You'll need to find a scene change where total black is shown or just change sources with the lights off (I think this is something that you'll need darkness for).

I think I read about this on the US forums so it's probably perfectly normal.. But, will this blotchiness go as the set beds in or is it just something I'll have to get used to?

I used a solid colour generator on my PC and the only colour that looked blotchy was black.

Any info or confirmation that this is normal would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
James.

Hi Arty1.
What purpose would you be upgrading the amp for HD audio?
Usually the built in Freeview is excellent but i guess depends on the quality of your reception.
All the best.

Hi SlingShotUK.
I think all sets seem to have this affect at varying levels. It was widely discussed on the 8G thread with Pioneer saying it's normal and a characteristic of the TV.
All the best.
