Do you confirm this or hdtvtest is wrong ?
I thought it said the input lag on the PZ80 was "non-existent" and by engaging IFC it increased the lag on the Z85 by 55millisecs. Couldnt see where it said the Z85 was faster than the F96 with IFC off?

It's right there:

PZ85B:
Input lag (rel. to Samsung F96) 30ms faster with IFC off; 15-25ms slower with IFC on
Panasonic TH42PZ85B Plasma HDTV Calibration & Benchmark

PZ80:
Input lag On par with Samsung F96
Panasonic TH42PZ80 / TH42PZ80B Review: 42" Viera Plasma HDTV

Which means that the PZ85B is 30 msec faster than the PZ80, getting it in the range of the 10/20 msec.

EDIT: I believe that you are mistaken with the PZ81B (sold in UK only, at least not in France where I live)

Sorry erm what are you on about? quoting from the link you provided

"Input lag was non-existent, either measured objectively or assessed subjectively as we hugged the racing lines on the tracks.

No input lag on the pz80...LCD's have ridiculous lag and motion.

When you have in the same review "input lag = F96" for the PZ80 and "input lag is 30 msec better than F96" for the PZ85 it clearly means that the PZ80 has an input lag of around 40 msec or so. If the reviewer could not detect it in a game is another story, having an input lag of above 30 msec is an issue for FPS and Fighting game at a high level (of course newbie & casual players won't notice).

If the F96 had 0 input lag (which does not exist by the way..., even PC LCD go as low as 5 msec), then it would be difficult for the PZ85 to be 30 msec faster.

So what I am saying is that the PZ80 is not lag free, it was apparently not noticable by the people testing this Plasma screen ; OR the review is wrong when they say that it is "on par" with the F96.

Now for the TV LCD what you said is not really correct either, the latest generation of LCD have an outstanding input lag, see the W4500 and W4000 review. The W4000 is as good the PZ85, the W4500 does apparently even better. Samsung apparently also has a US LCD which is close to lag free, beeing 15 msec the A650 based on avsforum feedback.

re: Panasonic TH42PZ80 thread

Note: if you know of another review which states that the PZ80 as an input lag around 10 msec I'd be glad to read it, I would definitly by the cheaper pana if I know that I won't be disappointed by that parameter.

Games on a Plasma TV? What are the disadvantages?

The only way to know if a screen is good for high level gaming is to measure lag with a PC connected to the screen and run a timers on both screens in clone mode. Then take multiple pictures and compare the time difference between the TV and the PC. The closer it gets to 10/20 msec the better it is, 30 is roughlty ok, above 30/40 is a problem.

I would do it myself if I owned a 1080P laptop which is not the case ... (clone mode only allows same resolution on both screens).

re: Panasonic TH42PZ80 thread

Thanks to the poster who informed us of the £599 deal.

After checking a couple of stores local to me, I heard back from JL today, who have agreed to price match this fantastic deal He said there are no 42PZ80s in their distribution centres, only the one left in store which has been reserved for me

I look forward to it arriving now!

Seconded . Does anyone know when JL expect stock in their distribution centres? Watford were unable to give me a date when I ordered.

I doubt any of them will match the Watford price now as they increased the price on Tuesday.
