baby Worries - Pedestal Or Wall Mount Mounted?
Sorry if this has been askied a thousand times.
My TH42PE50 lives on the cabinet that came with it in the corner of the room (not pretty), anyway yesterday in an expensive visit to buy some of the ikea leds from another thread (fantastic by the way), I ordered a very nice leather corner sofa thats going to replace the aged hand me down suite we have at the moment. I am going to move the TV and kit to a new wall, however been a new house with crap walls, and my total ineptitude with DIY I was thinking of options. I saw a very nice Benno cabinet in ikea yesterday with a plasma and pedestal combo sat on top of it, its rated at 100kg max load so this should present no probs for my kit, and the height would be about the same as me wall mounting the plasma. My dilema is my 7 month old who is into everything at the moment, and the worry of her been able to pull the plasma over if it was pedestal mounted (i know the combine weight would be in excess of 50kg) but the worry is still there. Has anyone got this setup and the youngsters too, or is it a case of if she is growing up with it there it should never bother her. Thanks for your input, maybe i should post this on a baby forum too ![]() |

__________________!click the link on my sig! what i have done is place the panel on the fireplace surround! then just used some small brackets that came with the panel to prevent tipping. 2 go onto panel, 2 into wall, and bolted them into the wall with metal expanding wall plugs from b&q,l ine em up and bolted em together. its very safe! been up for about 7 months iv tried pulling it etc no movement, so if u have a fireplace it may work for u, very simple! safe! cheap! if this aint an option or something you dont like a bit of advice! my girlfriends little bro (3 years old) is always running to the tv, bouncing off it and running back, luckilly its a beast of a crt, so it dont budge, but just think of the dissaster if it were a plasma!!!!! he looks like the kind of person who would gladly smear your nice plasma with jam and any other substances he could get his hands on

I had the same dillema when I bought my plasma a few months ago. Went with a Pedestal and bought a nice glass unit to put the plasma and ped on.
Then when my son started crawling, two months ago, I went to B&Q, bought a sheet of clear perspex, and a few lengths of 1 inch pine. Made a frame out of the pine and cut the perspex sheet to fit. Positioned it in front of the TV and it works a treat. Before I built it, my son was drawn to the TV and I was constantly cleaning the glass top and screen. Dont know if everyone is the same as me but the plasma screen HAS to be clean and not have any fingerprints on it. (Just call me anal). Some people may think it was a bit extreme but the barrier does the job, looks nice and I can still work the sky + and dvd recorder as the infra red works through the perspex sheet. ![]() |

We've just had cabinets with solid wooden doors made for exactly this reason. Jake is now walking and into everything but now all the black boxes with the fun slots and switches are closed away I can breathe easy again. I've bunged a Xantech IR system in as well to control everything from a Pronto without opening the doors (works a treat!) The 506XDE screen is pedestal mounted and sits on top of the cabinet. Frankly it's so heavy I doubt he could pull it over, and anyway he's only allowed in the TV room when we are in there to keep an eye on him.
Here's trouble, complete with bandaged scar! ![]() |
