Wall Mount Project - All Going Wrong - Help!
Hi Guys,
After a couple of months of waiting for my new house I have begun my plasma wall mount project. I'm not a very good diyer (as I have just found out ) but have managed to chase the required cables into the wall and put conduict over it.I have three big concerns 1) Will it work or have i damaged a cable along the way? - Will test later tonight Where I need your help... 2) Will 3mm depth between conduict and surface be enough depth for my wall to be replasted without the conduict showing? 3) I have messed up the holes in the plaster for my wall mount - they are all aligned and I followed the instructions of using a 12mm drill bit....once I started drilling, the drill had a life of its own. Anyhow to cut a long story short my holes are too big for my rawlplugs (really loose - say 2mm too wide)....I have pumped in "no more nails" and then inserted the rawlplugs..............will this be ok or will I need to call someone out to sort this out? Thanks for your help - slightly distressed at the moment ! NAC |

From my experience renervating my last house. IMHO 3mm is too close to the surface. as this is the thickness of the topcoat plaster which could crrack with any movement. Could you try to channel out a bit deeper. A borrowed angle grinder does a great job if you need to chase out brickwork.
I've never used no more nails but have done similar with mere polifiller although not for holding something as expensive as a plasma! I reckon you have nothing to worry about as long the redrilled holes and rawlplugs feel well tight (which I bet they are)The main load is downwards which is also to your advantage (axial force if I remember my physics days) Let us know how you get on Deks |

Hi NAC
Q1 - Only you will know that later tonight when you test them. Q2 - Althongh not ideal, if the surface of the conduit is below the wall surface, then I see no reason why the plaster wont cover it. It will be a little thin and yes you should have chased the cables in deeper but it will work. Q3 - No nails is a very strong adhesive but personally I would not use it the way you have. I have used it on some of our skirting boards and in places it is showing signs of coming away from the wall, so I would not use it for the amount a plasma weighs. What I would do is re-drill an inch to the left or right of your first try, better still get a neighbour or friend who is a little more confident with a drill to do it for you. |

Phew - I thought I was going to get a massive bill but the installer said (after he stopped laughing at my drill attempts
) my job - ignoring the plastering- is already nearly 90% complete To do the whole works (check wiring, install plasma/surrounds, plaster & cement) the installer said he will charge me Ģ200.....I got a builder out to sense check the cost and he said Ģ150 just for the plastering Looks like my baby will be up and running on saturday evening ! Thanks for all your help. |

All mounted up - just the plaster to paint over now.
The installer had some slight trouble with the drill too....there is concrete breezeblocks behind the plaster which apparently causes the drill to kick around alot - not your usual breezeblock. All sorted now though, looks amazing, will post pics soon - just need to work out when I can paint over the plaster now! Thanks for all your help guys. One piece of advice - where the Rawlplug packet suggests 12mm drill bit, only use a 10mm and then widen up from there carefully with a screwdriver - you then get a VERY tight fit on the plug. NAC |

The builder used the plugs I gave him - they are B&Q Rawlplugs 12mm...I think mals thread (or was it in the PV500 FAQ?) about his wall mount project has a picture of the package from memory
4 plugs alone can hold the plasma up easily if done correctly - though use 6 per the manual or 10 if you are slightly paranoid ! BTW channeling out a concrete breezeblock is very hard work - especially if you are looking to have all the equipment on the opposite side of the room to the plasma (which is what I have done) ! Channeling in is well worth the effort though. If God had meant cables to be on display, he wouldn't have invented the SDS drill. Those bad boys could demolish a house in a couple of hours and made short work of my chimney breast when I wall mounted
