PV500 pedestal stand set up question

Hi guys,

Love this forum and it has really helped me choose which TV to buy. I am getting delivery of a Panasonic 42PV500 tomorrow from John Lewis (which they priced matched to £2199 with the Panasonic shop in Leicester by the way - had better price matches but no stock in those shops unfortunately but I was happy with that price anyway).

My question refers to the physical setting up of the telly and the official pedestal stand. The instructions with the stand tell me to lay the plasma panel flat on its front on the floor then push the pedestal stands metal "pillars" into the base of the panel. However, the front of the pedestal is approximately 8-10 inches from the pillars which means I will probably have to angle the telly at around 20 degrees to actually do this..... (which doesnt sound particularly easy or sensible to me) - my wife isnt too keen to help lift it

So, can anyone give me some advice about the easiest way to do it which minimises my chances of snapping the thing in half. I would have thought that just lowering the plasma vertically onto the pedestal would be the best bet, but that seems to be contrary to the instructions...

I'm sure it will be fairly obvious tomorrow but just thought I'd ask

Cheers.

I found the same thing strange when I was setting up the pedestal and plasma. I lowered the plasma onto the 2 spikes with the help of a friend and found it easier than it looked.

I've had the 42PV500 and pedestal for around 3 months now. If my memory serves me right, I followed the instructions as per laying the television flat but used cushions/pillows to protect the glass from the hard floor. This also helped angle upward the bottom part of the TV to site the metal prongs of the stand, no problems there. What is difficult is lifting the combined TV/Stand which is in excess of 50kg I think. This is definately a two-person job, my wife helped me lift it up onto a 3 foot unit and it was just manageable. May pay to get a friend/dad/brother to help if possible.

Hope this helps! Enjoy it, its a great set!

Hehe thanks guys.... I think I'll try the lowering onto the spikes trick... makes more sense to me and should, in theory, make it slightly easier to lift onto the cabinet afterwards.

Can't wait to try it out...

Hi, it's not recommended to lay the plasma on it's front or back.. Make sure it's upright at all times ... I recommend you set the set top on your table top first, then make sure the pillars are facing outwards ( not inwards - that's for the 37 inch model ) and then slide the plasma on ( with help of course.. But i must stress "DO NOT PUT A PLASMA ON ITS FRONT"

For the 37PV500(same pedestal) they say to put a blanket on a table and put the glass side on to that. Works perfect...

It's only in transport you need to worry about this, due to the constant vibrations at varying frequencies (as well as speed bumps). Just don't drop the thing on it's front. But i agree, if you can lower it onto the spikes with a mate it'll be easier

I had similar concerns myself when I read the instructions, in the end I used the large polystyrene packing pieces to support the screen in each corner, attached the stand & a friend helped me lift the whole thing into position.
If memory serves me right, the packing pieces are about the right height, as the front of the stand just touches the floor.

My new PV500PED arrived this morning, it's way too big to set up on your own so I have organised a mate to come round and help me put this thing together

The PED is all ready to go and the TV is still in it's box

Anyway I am going to lower the TV down onto the PED with a mate and see how that goes.

Good luck me!
