Question To wall mount yet or not?

Hi all,

So here's the thing....

I currently have my new Hitachi 7200 sitting nicely on it's stand on a large Ikea cabinet in my living room.

I want to mount it on the wall behind the cabinet at roughly the same height as it is now.

I currently have Sky +, a 5.1 amp, my DVD player, & my wireless music streamer situated on the shelves in the cabinet.

I was planning to mount the TV tomorrow, get rid of the Ikea cabinet & get myself some kind of upright set of glass shelves type unit to sit directly under the TV housing the SKY + etc.

I'm planning on running all the leads out of the TV behind the wall & come out of a nice neat (hopefully!) hole in the corner by the skirting.

However.....I take delivery of my XBOX 360 in 3 weeks time, & was wondering if it would be better to delay the mounting of the TV tommorrow until I have the 360?

If I do mount it tomorrow (n00b alert here!), what would be involved in removing it again in 3 weeks time to 'plumb in' the 360 component leads?

I hope that makes sense, I'm really keen to get it mounted, but just want to know if it's better to mount tomorrow & remove in 3 weeks time (thus getting the bulk of the work out of the way tomorrow), or wait & do the whole thing once the 360 has arrived?

All input/advice welcomed.

[Edit]-Here's a pic of the Ikea cabinet.
The other reason that I'd like to get rid of it is that it really is too big for my needs & far too deep than is necessary (hence my desire for a glass shelved unit.

If anyone has any recommendations for glass shelving units, I'd be grateful to hear them too.

Here's the kind of thing I had in mine (courtesy of Richer Sounds)

Thanks again.

cant you just plumb in the 360 lead now ?. Run the cables you intend to use for connecting it up so its all ready to go when your xbox arrives ?

Surely your cable run will require longer leads than they ship in the box anyway

The cable's not available to buy yet.

The machine is launched on 02/12/05, although there are rumours that all accessories & games will be available to buy the week before (25th Nov), but that's nothing more than a rumour currently.

I would suggest there is nothing stopping you from mounting now, as long as there is enough space in the conduit to run extra cables through. I did a similar thing and routed a few lengths of thin nylon string through the conduit so I could pull any extra cables through as and when required. Still have two bits of string left for any future updates (Roll on SKY HD)

The thing is, I was planning on just drilling a hole directly behind the TV for all the wiring/leads, so if I do this tomorrow I'll presumably have to remove the TV once the XBOX arrives in 3 weeks time?

Cheers for your input.

Depends on the wall mount and location of the sockets. I have the pv500 which is an absolute to put cables into when it's hanging, but it is still possible. If the worst comes to the worst, unhooking from the wall mount shouldn't be too big a deal.

Also, if previous games console releases are anything to go by (PSP anybody!) I wouldn't hold your breath for the XBOX release date. Just make sure you plan wisely and you shouldn't have a problem when the correct cables are available.

I've got a Hitachi 42PD7200 & I've ordered one of these: http://www.av-sales.co.uk/proddetail...B05-NT&cat=190

So I guess I need to know how easy it is to remove the TV once it's mounted, so that I can then poke the XBOX component cables through the hole in the wall?

You could always stick a component lead in and then get something like http://www.js-technology.com/product...959fdd7543443a and then you can always add another component source in if required.

Just a note on that glass rack - it will only take a 7kg weight per shelf (cos I was looking at it!) so if you've got a big beefy amp, the chances are it won't be able to hold it.

well i would do what i have, and that is connected a cable to every connection even thou i dont use it!
now im sure you could get some connectors to connect the xbox cables to ones you mount into the wall when the time comes.
that way you have multi use cables mounted into wall rather than an xbox only one!
so you can hot swap perhaps when ps3 comes out etc.

i nice look i think would be the ikea floating shelves with the equipment all on them , very nice and smooth yet still showing ur nice kit off.
a few lads have done it on here and really looks nice

That looks a possible answer.

So what I would do is get that box, run the component leads I currently have from my DVD player into that little box, & connect that box up to the component 'in' on my TV?

Then I presumably just add the XBOX lead to that when I get it?

Sounds like a plan!

Feel free to correct me if I've got that wrong btw.

Azzin Spot on. Especially if you currently have DVD via component and you want to connect the XBOX via component.

The extra cost will be the component box and 1 extra component lead. Saves you switching them around as well. The JS tech boxes are excellent although I have no experience of this one.
