please help, mounting plasma on plasterboard and thermolite
The excitement of the arrival of my Pio PDP 506 has been destoyed by the fact the my wall is comprised of platerboard stuck onto thermalite blocks (followed by a cavity and bricks outside).
From what I can gather this is great for insulation but bad for hanging plasmas on. From my research it seems the best way to acheive this is to use injection fixings, i.e polyester resin and then bolts from screwfix. However, a few things concern me: 1. The Pio wall bracket has 3 holes about 3 cm apart as each corner of the bracket, should I use all 3, 2 or just 1 at each corner? 2. How much resin should I use when applying a M10 bolt and what's the preferred length? ..or is there a better method for fixing the plasma, i.e. inserting wooden beams into the wall and hanging the screen off that? Please help, for those who recognise me I live on IOM and there are many varying and unhelpful opinions (unless you pay an extra £1000 for your screen buying it here!) and if anyone need any info on the PDP 506, which is superb I'll be happy to help! Thanks in advance Kev. |

Kev, forget the resin anchor's, they are a bit hit and miss for a novice.
Best way for you is to cut the size of the bracket out of the plasterboard with a stanley knife, fit some 18mm ply to the blockwork to the hole you cut out, any decent hardware store will cut you a piece. Fix this to the mortar bed joint on the blockwork, and the blockwork at each corner, drill 7mm dia holes and use brown wall plugs, then use 75 mm no 12 screws.(the bed joint is where you will get the best fix) You can then simply fix your bracket anywhere on the ply with simple 50mm screws. Make sure the front surface of the plywood is flush with the plasterboard, if you want to be really tricky, cover the backside of the ply with gripfill adhesive. |

thanks for that...
However, I've decided to play it safe and just get a stand for the cabinet I'm getting. Wall mounting is all well and good, and I suppose it looks better too, but a stand on the av cabinet will be at the perfect height anyway. I'm sure the fixings in the thermolite would be fine but I'll get a better nights sleep with it on a stand... anyone want an usused wall mount for a pio? |

Was that a genuine offer Kev? If it's the pio pdk-wm02 (i think) I'm defininately interested. I'm just in the process of finding someone to supply me a 506 asap.
BTW what sort of warranty did you get with it? Cheers Billy |

Billy,
that's the one. It's been opened, though obviously not hung, but I still have all the packaging, template, instructions etc. Cost £200 new, say £170 including postage, I'll even include the 8 anchor bolts I got if it's going on a brick wall? I got mine from avland, their service is excellent, but I didn't get the additional warranty, at least not yet... though I was on the waiting list for nearly 2 months before I got it! if you're getting a 506 you will not be disappointed! PM me with your details if you're interested. Kev. |

I put mine up on thermalite blocks using no more nails. Just get the biggest screws and plugs you can find. Drill the holes in to the plaster and block, fill em with no more nails, put the plugs in and wait till the no more nails has gone off then attach your bracket.
It took my weight (96 Kilos) at full tilt which puts a lot of leverage on it and it didn't budge. It's still safe and sound now after months. |

I ended up putting it on the wall bracket when my resin and bolts came from screwfix over the weekend, though I drilled a few more holes across the top and bottom of the bracket to distributed the weight a bit more evenly. I ended up using nearly all the resin (600mls) for 10 bolts. If anyone needs any pictures of how I did it let me know.

Bit late now , but a search for "thermolite" would have led you to 2 threads , one of which would have led you to Jasonjo's site , with comprehensive instructions for thermolite mounting ( oo er )

yes, I saw that, it was a toss-up between using those plugs or using the resin & bolts. I've worked with polyester resin before but in different circumstances, though I was amazed how quick and strong the bolts set. 10 bolts is probably a but overkill but it helps me sleep better. Even had a few big cushions under it for a day, seeing as I've never done this before I wasn't taking any chances!
Now it's been up for 3 days I'm a bit more relaxed(!) and I'd quite happily do the same again, only thing was is that the alignment was out by 1mm on one side... guess you can't have everything! |

I am not actually in a position to answer just yet as my plasma is being deliverd this Saturday however.
1. Fire up new tv and all is fine then 10x8mm thread rawl bolts into solid wall. Put on kettle. 2. Fire up new tv and dead pixles then 4x self tappers into stud partition wall. Phone direct line. |
