Yay !

Welcome back Paul - and of course "you're welcome"

Hi, Paul, good to hear from you.
Congrats on the E-M5, it's a great machine !
Looking forward to some shots from you ...

Jim, I have just been doing two boxes of slides from that particular trip to Corsica (1979)
Maybe, later, I'll go to digitizing more, but will definitely need another technique ...

quick question-off to New York next week and might buy a new lens. Curently have an EPL2 with the two kit lenses and a Panasonic 20 mm. Would the 14-150 be worth a go (could then sell my kit lenses) or would one of the new primes get more use? Mainly take landscapes, people and nature shots. Cheers

Hi, Craig !

can you specify what you mean when you state '2 kit lenses' ?
I read here and there that the 14-150 is a fine lens, but specifically for video ...
The new primes (12/45/75) are high end fast lenses, and play in a completely different game and budget ...

Hi, Craig,

you could indeed replace both lenses by just one. You'd loose just a little in speed at 14mm, just a little ...

I don't know how much the kitlenses would bring you in second hand market, but I saw the 14-150 is @ 700 Euro, at least in Belgium ... maybe (a lot) cheaper in the USA, but not certain. I received my OM-D lightning fast here, while all Americans are whining that they can't get any ...

As I have not owned any of the lenses that we are talking about, I cannot comment on the quality ... but you'll find a test of the 14-150 here :

it is a "Coreus marginatus" , commonly called the dock bug, a species of squash bug. It is a speckled brown insect with a broad abdomen, and is common in most parts of Europe. It is often found in dense vegetation, such as hedgerows and wasteland, where it mainly feeds on the leaves and seeds of docks and sorrels

For a topic on using mirror-lenses for macro-shots and close-ups,
I'm doing some testing with my OM-D and my Reflex-Nikkor 500/8 on extension rings.
So far, I have added the shortest ring (5mm), and later the second one extra (+1cm),
and the results are quite promising ...

(5mm)

(15mm)

All shots are handheld, and the frog is surprisingly sharp IMHO,
considering that it was taken at 1/80sec with a lens with an equivalent FOV of 1000mm

I didn't know the "Centon" lenses, but googling did not give me a lot of positive information about them,
to say the least ....
You can have good mirror lenses for not a lot of money on Ebay ...

Still investigating the possibilities of my Reflex-Nikkor 500/8 on extension rings.
I threw the whole bunch in this morning, bringing in 6 cm of extension between the lens and the adapter.
Still shooting handheld @ 3200iso

I gave the one shot I preferred some different PP
Which one do you prefer ???

Thanks, Paul, my personal favorite is #3, that I have worked on a bit further, to bring this :

And, two roses from the garden, shot with OM-d and Micro-Nikkor 55/2.8

Stay safe,

My wife has got herself a lens-upgrade
I just gave away my Panasonic 45-200 tele-kitlens
Have I gone crazy ... NO !

I got myself a like-new Nikkor 80-200/2.8 ED for a very good price, here in Belgium, but from the evilbay ...

Received the lens this morning, and played a little during lunch-break ...

1. The mandatory frog-near-the-pond shot

2. Spirea alba

3. Hydrangea

4. Rosa canina

I took the wife and the boy to the zoo yesterday, and I did not forget my camera, with only the Nikkor 80-200/2.8 ED zoom ...

I took a lot of pictures, and was surprised to get soo many keepers, regardless of the manual focus lens ...

Here's the start of a selection ...

Great set Raf. I wish my eyesight was good enough to manually focus as well as this!
