So Cute

Hello there

Wife took a call a couple of weeks ago to see if I would take some pictures of her best mates daughter. Plan is that she was going to buy her a canvas print for Christmas.

Now these people are good friends of the family and we go back a long way. In fact they have know the wife longer, because they are my wife's Godmothers, granddaughter if you follow me

Any way, the wife told them she would ask me but she didn't think I would do it as she didn't think it was my sort of thing.

Anyway I gave it a go, as I do like to challenge myself in photography.

Equipment wise

Black sheet for a background and the now repaired 430 flash, with a home made lead if I wanted to set the flash up off camera.

This was all done in some ones front room which with the dull sky outside there wasn't a lot of natural light.

I shot in manual mode and keep a shutter speed of 1/125. This was my base and I changed the ISO,aperture, or flash compensator as I felt it needed it.

Jez I have started to sound like I know what I am talking about, but to tell you the truth I made it up as I went along, as I am no expert with flash, and it was all trail and error.

The client gave me a short brief.

Black and white or maybe sepia, also as the wife had told them on the phone I prefer natural poses, and we were in agreement there.

So the first I am going to show you went right against the brief but had to be colour all the way.

1

| 1/125 | f/6.3 | 41 mm | ISO 100 |

It was Ellie's idea to bring bubbles along, and it worked out to be a good one.

This is my take.

2

| 1/125 | f/5 |43 mm | ISO 100 |

The client asked for a pink bubble, and I am getting out voted by Ellie's and the wife as the both like this version.

3

Next is a close up portrait.

4

| 1/125 | f/5.6 | 76 mm | ISO 100 |

Which I am also getting out voted on as they like this version.

5

Women what do they know I am the expert here

I used a range off lens, but the one that really stood out was the Tamron 17-50mm and it became my workhorse for the session.

More to come.

All CC welcome.

Cheers Holo

Re: So Cute

You've done a great job with these Frank.
I like the one with the bubble (uncoloured!) the best.

Re: So Cute

Hello there

Thanks all for all the comments.

One thing I would like to say as a subject. she was brilliant, one of my main worries before I done the shoot was that she would make strange with me and it would be all tears. But she really did get use to me and the flash didn't seem to bother her at all.

Another one messing with bubbles.

Re: So Cute

Holow - they are all excellent photos maybe a bit more contrast would add some 'punch' to these?

Re: So Cute

These are a fantastic set.

No. 2 (b+w bubble), No. 4 (close up colour portrait) and the rustic are the stand out winners for me. Stunning.

Personally I've never been a fan of selective colouring, so the coloured bubbles in a b+w shot don't work for me. Great shots otherwise though.

cheers,

John

Not really a fan of it myself but its what I have been asked to do. I have re-edited #7 just to brigten up the bubble after Pauls comments on flickr.

Here is another close portrait.

Hi Holo, sorry for not replying sooner but been away.

Apart from 6 I think they could all do with a bit more contrast. It may be just me but I do like a fair bit of contrast in my images.

cheers
