PC Barcode Scanner?

Anyone know where I could get a reasonably priced barcode scanner (serial, USB?) and software that would allow me to scan all my DVD barcodes into DVD Profiler.

With some 600 DVDs I don't fancy pulling them all off the shelf one at a time to catalogue them. I got to about 125 and gave up in the hope of being helped out by technology.

Anyone? Thanks.

try www.maplin.co.uk, and do a search for 'barcode

it comes up with quite a few - depends what you call 'reasonably priced' though

Good idea now we have a spare Datalogic DLL6000-R and OM6010-R at work - I'll just use the wedge cable

A Serial / USB scanner might not be much use - would suggest a Keyboard Wedge attached scanner. CCD would probably prove to be the cheapest form - Welch Alleyn, MetroLogic, PSC all make such scanners.

http://www.barcodeman.co.uk/altek/simple/simple.php ... £89.

Regards

http://www.mavin.com/computermice.html have them for about £16 (inc p&p to UK) for usb, or £11 for PS/2

They brought up all the cuecat stock when digital convergence went bankrupt.

They sell the USB and PS2 versions, they are unmodified versions this means that they have encypted output, they can be modified to output unencypted data, very easy to do this on the usb version you just snip on of the pins on the chip.

All details on modifying the cuecats is on their sites, you can also get a driver that does the decoding if you don't want to modify your cuecat.

Thanks. Do yo know if the Cuecat software will pass the barcode info to a Windows app such as DVD Profiler?

Cheers.

Seems to work according to what people have been saying on the dvd profiler forum.

Hopefully my cuecat will turn up this week, if it does I will let you know.

If I downloaded the software for my Palm Vx (I know there is program to turn it into a barcode scanner) could I use this for it? Although my collection is pretty small (only about 35-40) and at a push I could probably name them all....

Scrap that, I think I mis-understood! It would appear that you would need a scanner in the first place and the program I thought about just enables you to use the Palm Vx with it!

Sorry!

My usb cuecat arrived today.

Just plugged it in and xp used it's built in drivers (don't bother with the cd that comes with the cuecat as thats just the spyware rubbish that digital convergence used before they went bankrupt)

It works with dvd profiler, you don't even need to modify it as dvd profilers built in scanner plugin decode it's for you.

When you enable the scanner plugin in dvd profiler it shows a popup, you swipe the cuecat over the barcode, you will then see the encrypted data appear in the box, then almost straight away the plugin extracts the upc and adds it to the collection. So entering multiple dvds is very fast.

Yes. $20.25 so I guess about £14.

Wow....what a funky gizmo....I've just catalogued 291 dvd's with it - Dvd profiler coped with almost all from the scaner. One ex-rental (spiderman) with a diff code and one (the damned) that it didn't know !

Anyone know of a similar prog for cd cataloging that uses the scanner ???

Used the inbuilt driver on win98, didn't mod the scanner and it worked great. Only took a few days (under a week) for it to arrive from Marvins too !

Cya,
Lee
