I couldn't tell you. I wouldn't be surprised, as they all came out at the same time. Wii, X-Box 360 and PC.

Cheers for this Razor, I was just wondering if / how this could be done.

I still can't see how you can get the level of accuracy you do at a desk with keyb/mouse combination, but I'm going to go buy the little gizmo you listed on page 1 and try it out, I've tried wireless keyboard with rollerball and it's dire.

Has anybody in this thread played a military FPS style game with this setup ONLINE against real people, can you compete on an equal level with a gamepad ?

A pad will never be as accurate as a keyboard and mouse, but there is a call for a pads use if you are using your pc in the lounge or simply dont want to be huddled over a Keyboard and mouse. As for gaming online I have gamed online with a pad and done ok but if you come across really good players you are at a handicap.

I think it all depends on the game you are playing to how good or bad a pad is online. In games like UT3 which have pad support as standard its not too bad. With games like COD with dont have pad support and rely on pinnacle it isnt as good.

The best thing to do mate is to look on the pinnacle forums. I know I tired to play Fable 1 and found that the game just wasnt that well mapped out to the pad due to the excessive amount of buttons needed.

Re: Using a Game Pad with a PC

I use a wired 360 controller for the pc when playing Driving games and such. But would never use one for a FPS no matter what addon you get K&M is much more accurate and responsive IMO.

Re: Using a Game Pad with a PC

KB and M will be far more accurate. I always use a pad myself though. I don't play a lot of deathmatch so the only online I play is co-op which is more relaxed and less competitive.

Re: Using a Game Pad with a PC

Well I've been using pinnacle and I've come to the conclusion that it's crap.

Don't get me wrong, it's the best program of it's type, but games don't feel right, the movement just feels wrong. Play say call fo duty with pnnacle and then play any fps with native pad support and see the difference with movement.

I'll only play on games that have native 360 pad support from now on, and most new releases thankfully do.

I just hope modern warfare 2 has native pad support.

Re: Using a Game Pad with a PC

Thats because all the other games which have pad support have auto aim.

I do hope the include pad support on MW2 though.

Yeah and I need as much auto aim as possible

Seriously though playing with a pad without auto aim is impossible, if they took it off the console versions they'd be in for a shock

It did take a few levels before I became used to it. It actually ramped up the difficulty a bit which was was good. However I do agree that it is poor that they didn't include pad support for this game. It states on the box and instructions that it supports the 360 pad but clearly doesn't. I just hope that they include pad support for the new one, especially as they are charging more than normal for it.

Console owners would be in for a huge shock if auto aim is removed.

I'll be p***** off if they remove it.

I might be so P***** off that I don't download it from piratebay if they remove pad support

I'd just like to say that I've taken auto aim for granted on consoles.

I tried using pinnacle profiler for mw2 and my god it was awful trying to play with a pad.

It's only when auto aim is removed do you realise how bad a pad is.

One thing that is starting to annoy is that devs seem to be removing pad support to try and make a point of catering for the HARDCORE pc gamers.

Most recent dissappointments have been mass effec 2 and bioshock 2.

Both reasons have been the same "we've designed the interface for a keyboard"

I'm sorry but that is inexcusable, it wouldn't be hard to add 360 pad support.

I see some "hardcore" gamers seem glad about this, they'll argue that you shouldn't be playing a shooter with a pad anyway.

Or some of the immature ones will go on to say "oh my god you would get owned with a pad online"

Well I don't play online, and I play on a 42" screen and the pc for me is about CHOICE, it's not a console where you just get what you're given and make do.

I really hope removing controller support isn't going to become a standard thing.

Yes we can use things like pinnacle, x-padder, joy2pad but they just don't work as well as native pad support, and to be honest with the choice of pinnacle or the carpal controller a.k.a keyboard and mouse I'd choose the keybaord and mouse.

Makes less sense to remove pad support if the game is a port as well

Well after much hair pulling i have finally got my pc running a decent gfx card. Got myself a 4890 that is running fine and perfectly peachy (i see that there is an option in the ati control panel to overclock it and i may give it a go but only after i have it running games and see that it is stable). I have overclocked the intel i3 by using the overclock switch on the motherboard and it is now running at 3.5. This way seemed a damn sight easier than messing with bios settings .

Anyways on to why i am posting in this thread... which is the best program xpadder or pinnicle?

Just in case anyone is interested i got a wireless pad and the receiver in black (matches the rest of my kit and looks way better than the standard white imho) for what i think is a pretty decent price of 28 quid delivered from here

Buy Microsoft Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows (Black) JR9-00007 £25.39 - Oyyy.co.uk

Cheers Razor.

I will maybe give them both a go. I am hoping xpadder is good as it is free or at least the older version is but will ultimately go for the best one at the end of the day and if that is pinnicle then so be it tis a small price to pay for playing games the only way i know how.

I fired up hawx as it was freeby with the 4890 and it has built in pad support. Have to say it felt good to be holding the 360 pad in my hand playing games on a pc. Had it all cranked up to max settings and it looked great. Not my kind of game really but it certainly looked nice. Also loaded up Hellgate London and there was no pad support so i just played it for a few minutes on the k and b. Didnt feel all that bad but i just prefer the pad for lounging in the living room on the sofa.

Have no idea what sort of frame rates i was getting but it seemed to be running silky smooth to me. I guess i am gonna have to do some more reading on benchmarking software.

For those interested a few people have been working really hard to re-enable pad support in Mass Effect 2. It now works perfectly, it even shows the xbox controls up, e.g. "Press A".
There is only one small fault with it at the moment, when selecting a power or weapon no icons are shown, so you have to do it by looking at the text of what you have selected. There also isn't any vibration feedback.
I have been using it for a bit now, and it isn't a big deal.
A plus is that because it re-enables the native controller support you get propper analog look/movement and you get console level autoaim.

If you want to play Mass Effect 2 with a controller, forget Pinicle and Xpadder, this is so much better.
Link

Same thing for Mass Effect 1 here.

I also believe that some of the people who have been working on this mod have now moved on to Bioshock 2.

And if it's of any interest, I use my Fragnstein to play Mass Effect 2 on my PC.

I was thinking of picking up a wirless 360 controller for the PC (mainly as it's a hassle to unravel the wires 2 PS2 ones and connector each time I fancy using a gamepad) and was wondering do the receivers support multiple pads?

For example do 2 gamepads work on a single usb receiver. I thinking on practical use on my laptop which only has 2 usb
