Sound card for using voice chat on games??

Hello, me again asking some real nooobie questions.
Do you need a certain sound card to use voice chat on online games such as quake 4 call of duty 2 ect? I have set up my sound device and checked that it is working with hardwear scan and test, it seems to be fine getting playback but when I try to change the options on quake it says that my sound card dose not support ...... somthing.
Dose anyon know what specification I need and are they expensive ??
THNAKS,, Please teach me

Yea get a heatset with a usb soundcard built in, you can change the volume, mute the mic and everything on the cable itself and it just plugs strait into the pc. Haven't heard of anything that doesn't support it app/game wise.

Look at plantronics, senhieer and logitech, they should all have usb models.

A quick look in the Activision support FAQs. Is this the message?

I receive the error: Could not load OpenGL subsystem

Answer
Make sure you have the latest video and sound card drivers from the manufacturers' websites.

All background applications must be shutdown prior to running the game.

No from your soundcard (chipset?) manufacturer, if you haven't installed it from them, windows uses a 'best fit' generic driver.
